Friday night’s primetime line-up on the major networks was filled with wrestling, repeats, football, reality and news along with one new episode of a Friday night drama, which just so happened to be the show’s series finale.

On September 23, the new movie On the Come Up will debut on Paramount+ online.

Based on the novel by best-selling author Angie Thomas, the film stars newcomer Jamila C. Gray as Bri, a 16-year-old gifted rapper who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father, a local hip hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence. But when her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her.

The cast includes Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Epps, Titus Makin, Sanaa Lathan (who also directs) and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.

Here is the long list of the programming options to expect on TV this coming week, which is the start of the 2022-2023 TV season:

On September 19, the season premieres of both NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i will air on CBS at 9 and 10 PM respectively. Meanwhile, that same night, the season premieres of both

9-1-1 and The Cleaning Lady will air at 8 and 9 PM respectively on FOX.

The reboot of Quantum Leap will debut on NBC on September 19 at 10 PM. It’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it. The series stars Raymond Lee in the lead role along with Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, Caitlin Bassett and Nanrisa Lee.

On September 20, the season premieres of FBI, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted will all air on CBS at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively; meanwhile, that same night, the season premiere of New Amsterdam will air on NBC at 10 PM; and also on that night, the season premiere of The Resident will air on FOX at 8 PM followed by the time slot premiere of the new series Monarch at 9 PM.

The new Disney+ series Andor will debut online on September 21. The series explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero. The cast includes Fiona Shaw, Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough and Stellan Skarsgard.

On September 21, the season premiere of Big Sky will air on ABC at 10 PM; meanwhile, that same night, the season premieres of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. will all air on NBC at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively.

The season premieres of Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Organized Crime will all air on NBC at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively on September 22.

The Hallmark Channel movie Fly Away With Me will debut on September 24 at 8 PM. When Angie (Natalie Hall) moves into her “no pets allowed” building, a parrot arrives unexpectedly. New neighbor Ted (Peter Mooney) and the dog he’s secretly sitting try to help her find the bird’s owner without being caught.

On September 25, the season premiere of The Rookie will air on ABC at 10 PM; meanwhile, that same night, the second season of Van der Valk will air on PBS at 9 PM; and also that night, the season finale of City on a Hill will air on Showtime at 10 PM.

The new UPtv movie Plus One at an Amish Wedding will debut on September 25 at 7 PM. Superstar doctor April (Galadriel Stineman) has the perfect life with her boyfriend, Jesse, when he invites her home for his brother’s wedding and discovers his Amish roots. Kevin Joy co-stars.

On September 25, the new movie Francesca Quinn, PI will debut on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries at 9 PM. When private investigator Francesca “Frankie” Quinn’s (Mallory Jansen) fiancé is murdered, his sister hires her to find the killer. Frankie must work with Wyn (Dylan Bruce), the local detective assigned to the case… who also happens to be her ex. As the one-time couple joins forces to unravel a serpentine plot, the investigation strikes at their hearts.

Lastly, also on September 25, the Disney movie sequel Under Wraps 2 will debut at 8 PM. The movie picks up as Marshall (Malachi Barton), Gilbert (Christian J. Simon) and Amy (Sophia Hammons) are getting ready to attend Amy’s father’s Spooktacular Halloween-themed wedding to his fiancé Carl. However, plans soon go awry when the three friends discover their mummy pal Harold (Phil Wright) and his beloved Rose (Rryla McIntosh) may be in danger. Sobek (T.J. Storm), an evil mummy with a 1000-year-old grudge against his best friend-turned-bitter-rival Harold, is unexpectedly awakened and out for revenge. With help from his hypnotized lacky Larry (Jordan Conley), Sobek kidnaps Rose. Gilbert, Marshall, Buzzy (Melanie Brook) and Harold must use their skills once again to save her and get back in time to attend the wedding. Adam Wylie also stars.

DISAPPOINTING TV NEWS

It looks like, despite how great it would be, that Scott Bakula has decided to not be involved in the Quantum Leap reboot – at all. Oh boy! (TV Line)

SERIES ORDER NEWS

It looks like Amazon has given an order for a new live-action limited series Blade Runner 2099 with Ridley Scott on board as an executive producer. (TV Line)

NOT MOVING FORWARD

The small screen adaptation of Constantine that was being developed by J.J. Abrams for HBO Max is now dead. [See more below about Constantine the movie.] (Variety)

TV CASTING NEWS

Brandon Sklenar (Westworld and The Offer) has joined the cast of the Yellowstone spin-off series 1923. He will play Spencer, the nephew of Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and the brother to John Sr. (James Badge Dale). (TV Line)

Dennis Quaid has joined the cast of the HBO Max series Full Circle that already includes among its cast the likes of Claire Danes, Zazie Beetz, and Timothy Olyphant. The 6-episode series will follow an investigation into a botched kidnapping that uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in present day New York City. Character details are currently being kept under wraps. (Variety)

Demi Moore will appear in season 2 of Feud on FX that will tell the true story of how Truman Capote was friends with numerous members of New York high society until he published excerpts of his unfinished novel “Answered Prayers,” with the excerpts serving as a tell-all about the city’s elite. It is being reported that Moore is expected to star as socialite Ann Woodward, a former showgirl and radio actress who was infamously accused of murdering her husband in 1955. (Variety)

Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) is expected to join Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith and Lee Jung-jae in the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte. (Variety)

Shaun Sipos (Outer Range) has joined season 2 of Reacher on Amazon, playing David O’Donnell, the member of Reacher’s old 110th MP unit. (TV Line)

Bridgerton hunk Rege-Jean Page and Top Gun Maverick alum Glen Powell will star in the small screen adaptation of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, though. (Variety)

The Peacock detective series Poker Face has added to its cast. Brandon Michael Hall (God Friended Me), Colton Ryan (The Girl From Plainville) and Megan Suri (Never Have I Ever) will appear in the series that will star Natasha Lyonne in the lead role. Character details are being kept under wraps, but the expansive cast will include Adrien Brody, Chloë Sevigny, Clea DuVall, Ellen Barkin, Jameela Jamil, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Judith Light, Lil Rel Howery, Luis Guzmán, Nick Nolte, Ron Perlman, among many others. Disney+ has another new series in the works. This time is a small screen adaptation of Spiderwick Chronicles that already includes Christian Slater and Joy Bryant as cast members. The latest cast to be added is Mychala Lee (the Netflix movie End of the Road and Truth Be Told). Based on the book series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, the series follows a family who leaves New York for Michigan, moving into their run-down ancestral home: The Spiderwick Estate. Lee will play Mallory, the sister of two brothers Jared and Simon, and the daughter of Bryant’s character. (Variety)

Chad L. Coleman (The Orville) has joined the cast of the upcoming 3rd season of Superman & Lois, playing infamous DC baddie Bruno Mannheim, a philanthropist who’s revived the struggling neighborhoods of the city. For years, Lois Lane (series lead Elizabeth Tulloch) has worked to prove that behind that facade is a career criminal and the head of the notorious organization Intergang. (TV Line)

Rodrigo Santoro has joined the cast of the upcoming Paramount+ series Wolf Pack (a sequel-of-sorts to the MTV thriller series Teen Wolf) that boasts Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy herself) as part of the cast. The show follows two teens whose lives are changed when a California wildfire awakens a supernatural creature. Santoro will play Garrett Briggs, am Angeles park ranger dedicated to protecting the environment, and adoptive father to the remarkable teenagers. (Variety)

BOX OFFICE NEWS

The 1985 best-selling memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Beaulieu Presley will be coming to the big screen with Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Eastown) and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) playing the title roles. (Variety)

It looks like Keanu Reeves will be back as Constantine in a sequel to the 2005 supernatural action film that will find director Francis Lawrence back at the helm. (Variety)
