RENEWAL/CANCELLATION
Hulu made a surprise announcement giving the streamer’s limited series Nine Perfect Strangers a second season renewal. (TV Line)
Unfortunately, Paramount+ has pulled the plug on Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies after only one season. (TV Line)
First the reboot of Magnum P.I. was canceled by CBS only to be picked up by the folks over at NBC. Now NBC has pulled the plug on the show with the upcoming second half of the show’s season 5 being its last. (Deadline and TV Line)
COMING TO AN END
Disney+ has pulled the plug on the small screen version of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The show will come to a close at the end of its upcoming fourth season that is set to air 8 episodes on August 9. (TV Line)
PULLED FROM THE LINE-UP
The Australian surfing drama Barons, which had been airing on The CW has been pulled from the line-up after only four episodes. It will be replaced by repeats of Nancy Drew on Monday nights at 9 PM. (TV Line)
INTERNATIONAL TV NEWS
Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclar, the werewolf roommate of Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series Wednesday has landed the lead in the BBC adaptation of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, playing Pip Fitz-Amobi. The tagline for the series is: Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh, but if Sal isn’t a murderer and the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from learning the truth? (Deadline)
MOVIE NEWS
Lucas Bravo, who plays hunky chef Gabriel in the Netflix series Emily in Paris, has landed the lead role in the new movie Sulak. The movie will focus on Bruno Sulak, a real-life French criminal who earned a notorious reputation in the 1980s for his non-violent heists on multiple jewelry stores. While Sulak was sent to prison for his crimes, he managed to escape several times to reunite with his lover and accomplice. This led to him becoming public enemy number one in the process. The third film in the franchise – Paddington in Peru – will find Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Rachel Zegler and Emily Mortimer (most likely) starring in the movie. They will join returning cast member Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin. Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton will also be back as the voices of Paddington and Aunt Lucy, respectively. The story will follow Paddington returning to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. Paddington and the Brown Family embark on an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru. This third installment will see Mortimer taking over from Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown, but no other details are available on the other characters. (Variety)
STREAMING MOVIE NEWS
The Flash actor Grant Gustin and Pretty Little Liars alum Lucy Hale will star in the upcoming Freevee original movie Puppy Love, which will center on wild-child Nicole (Hale) and socially anxious Max (Gustin), who, after a disastrous first date, vow to lose each other’s numbers until they learn that their dogs have found a love match, and now puppies are on the way. Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman) will co-star. (TV Line)
CONVENTION NEWS
TV Line has confirmed that in addition to Marvel skipping next month’s San Diego Comic Con, Netflix, HBO, Sony Pictures and Universal Pictures will all also not be attending the fete. (Variety and TV Line)
