The first two episodes of the new drama The Institute will debut on MGM+ on July 13 at 9 PM.

The series follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis (Joe Freeman) who is kidnapped and awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did, and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (Ben Barnes) has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.

The cast includes Mary-Louse Parker, Julian Richings and Martin Roach [among others].

Here is the list of the programming options to expect on TV this coming week:

On July 7, the finale of Art Detectives will air online on Acorn TV.

The new spin-off series Ballard (set in the world of the Bosch franchise) will debut online on Amazon Prime on July 9. The series follows Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) as she leads the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer’s string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth. The cast includes Noah Bean, Victoria Morales, Ricardo Chavira, Rebecca Field, Michael Mosley and John Carroll Lynch.

On July 10, the finale of Criminal Minds: Evolution will air online on Paramount+ and that same day, the finale of The Black Daggar Brotherhood will air online on Passionflix. Also on July 10, the finale of Poker Face will air online on Peacock.

On July 11, the finale of Murderbot will air online today on Apple TV+ and that same day, the third season premiere of Foundation will air online on Apple TV+.

Also on July 11, Dexter: Resurrection, a continuation of Dexter: New Blood, will debut online on Paramount+ with Showtime. The series takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined – and that the only way out is together. The cast includes James Remar, Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine [among others].

The linear debut of the holiday movie Unwrapping Christmas: Mia’s Prince will debut on the Hallmark Channel on July 12 at 8 PM. The original movie debuted on Hallmark+ on November 14, 2024.

On July 13, Dexter: Resurrection will debut on Showtime at 8 PM.

(DISAPPOINTING) CANCELLATIONS

Netflix has pulled the plug on both the medical drama Pulse and the mystery-comedy series The Residence after one season for each series. (TV Line)

BOX OFFICE NEWS

Industry and Back to Black star Marisa Abela has joined Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe in the upcoming Highlander reboot flick, but there are no specific details on what role she will play. (Variety)

Viola Davis and Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star and produce a reimagining of the 1987 feature film House of Games that follows psychiatrist Margaret Ford (Lindsay Crouse), who gets caught up in the world of gambling while trying to help one of her patients, Mike Mancuso (Joe Mantegna), deal with anxiety. The sequel film The Devil Wears Prada 2 has added Kenneth Branagh to its cast, and he will be playing the husband of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). (Deadline)

The Little Mermaid’s Halle Bailey and Bridgerton hunk Rege-Jean Page will star in the upcoming rom-com film Italianna. (Variety)

You and Gossip Girl alum Penn Badgley and star Meghann Fahy (Sirens, The White Lotus and Drop) are set to star in the rom-com You Deserve Each Other that follows Naomi and Nick, a couple who are about to get married and live happily ever after except for one thing: They’ve fallen completely out of love. With the wedding rapidly approaching and its pressure mounting, they both resolve to secretly push the other into calling off the wedding using all means at their disposal, including pranks, sabotage and all-out emotional warfare. TV CASTING NEWS

Suits LA alum Bryan Greenberg and French actress Michele Laroque have joined the 5th season of Emily in Paris. Greenberg will play Jake, an American living in the French capital while Laroque will play Yvette, an old friend of Sylvie (series regular Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu). (Variety)

Judy Greer will join her 13 Going on 30 co-star Jennifer Garner in The Five-Star Weekend, the upcoming Peacock series adaptation of the Elin Hilderbrand novel. The series will focus on Hollis Shaw (Garner), a famed food influencer known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste, and warm demeanor who suffers a devastating loss. Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis’s picture-perfect life—her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter, and her growing pursuit of validation from her followers. In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her twenties, thirties, and one surprise fifth star. The Sopranos alum Michael Imperioli will star opposite Grey’s Anatomy hunk Patrick Dempsey in the straight-to-series thriller drama Memory of a Killer, which follows Angelo Ledda (Dempsey), a hitman who is leading a dangerous double life while hiding an even deadlier personal secret: He has developed early-onset Alzheimer’s. Jennifer Anison will star in a series adaptation based on I’m Glad My Mom Died, the Jennette McCurdy acclaimed memoir. The dramedy will center on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kid’s show, and her narcissistic mother (Aniston) who relishes in her identity as a starlet’s mother. There is no word yet on who will inhabit the McCurdy role. (TV Line)
