New York Comic Con 2019 took place over this past weekend, featuring lots and lots of panels and celebrities, focusing on all things pop culture on the big screen and on TV [and so much more]. As any convention attendee can attest, there are always LOTS of cosplayers.

The Purge
The Purge creator, writer, and executive producer James DeMonaco teased that there is an overarching mystery that the character of Marcus Moore (Derek Luke) must solve over the next year. In the premiere episode, Marcus ends up surviving the night with his wife Michelle (Rochelle Aytes), but finds out that somebody’s been following him and wants to kill him. (Syfy)

Last month New York Comic Con held an art contest that would give the winner a “swanky” trip to the convention for the Outlander panel and have their art used in a poster for the autograph session with the attending cast members.
One of the entries really caught my attention, but I had to wait for the contest to be complete before I could post anything. That art was created by Kumu Pepper who can be followed on Instagram at @kumu.art.
Thanks to the folks at Outlander TV News you can see just some of those great entries here.
Outlander will be back for the start of its fifth season on Starz on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
My fellow NiceGirl Lisa attended Dragon Con 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia over the Labor Day weekend, and the following are excerpts of her highlight reports:
On Friday, Lisa “started out the day at a press conference with Rose McIver from iZombie. What Rose loved about her character Liv: She was proud to play Liv, because she was an unusual hero who struggled with her identity and came out of the show knowing her true self. Rose loves that her character is out there for young girls to see and to show them that it’s ok to be vulnerable.”
Lisa was invited to participate in two fan panels during the first day of the convention, including a fan panel for the Freeform fantasy series Siren as well as a Jordan Peele Fan panel.

Part of the fun of every convention is meeting some of your favorite people. Lisa got to meet up with Dave Tango and Steve Gonsalves, the original Ghost Hunters on Friday, and the guys from GhostBrothers:

Lisa also shared her “Best TV Cosplayer of Friday”:
The fabulous Michael Bigay of Micvee Cosplay, who came as Mateo from Superstore:

On Saturday, Lisa participated in the Shadowhunters Fan Panel:
And then got to check out the iZombie panel, featuring cast members Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Aly Michalka and Bryce Dodgson, who talked about their time on the final season of The CW series.
When asked by a fan which TV show each of them would like to see their characters appear on, Malcolm joked Game of Thrones; Rose said The Muppets she loves them and “Miss Piggy is my spirit animal” and Aly said “Peyton would fit in well on Doctor Who.”
Lisa also shared a touching moment that happened during the panel when “a friend of Malcolm’s from high school came and surprised him. He was caught off-guard and went down memory lane when she showed him a video of himself. It was such a great moment to see him be surprised in such a good way. After the panel he stayed and caught up with his friend. It was very touching and another great moment that can only happen at Dragon Con.”
Lisa also got to meet up with one of her favorite actors on Saturday: Jordan Calloway from Black Lightning.

On Sunday, Lisa sat on two panels: the fan panel for Midnight, Texas and the Heroes That Look & Live Like Us panel.
Lisa choice for “Best TV Cosplayer of Sunday” goes to:

Best of all, Lisa got a hug from actress Nafeesa Williams, who plays Thunder on Black Lightning, [who remembered Lisa from San Diego Comic Con) as she was leaving the hotel. They discussed their love for Pam Grier and how Pam was a superhero for them both. It was perfect ending to Dragon Con 2019 for Lisa!
Here are a few cosplayer pictures that Lisa took throughout the weekend:

Dragon Con is the internationally known pop culture convention held each Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta. Organized for fans, Dragon Con features more than 3,500 hours of comics, film, TV, costuming, art, music, and gaming over five days.
It should be noted that attendance for this year’s convention soared past 85,000 for the five days with more than $110,000 raised for American Heart Association’s Georgia affiliate. The annual Robert A. Heinlein “Pay It Forward” Blood Drive, held since 2002 by LifeSouth, saw some 3,600 donors contribute more than 10,000 units of blood.
Some of this year’s top guests included George Takei (Sulu from the Star Trek franchise), Lana Parrilla (Once Upon a Time), David Tennant (Doctor Who, Jessica Jones and Good Omens), Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who and New Amsterdam), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride and Psych), Zachary Levi (Chuck and Shazam) and Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid) [among others].
Dragon Con 2020 will be held from September 3 to September 7. For more information, you can visit Dragon Con.
The 50th Annual Comic Con came to a close in San Diego today with a few TV shows being highlighted, primarily the very last – EVER – panel for Supernatural.
Supernatural (The CW)
Given that this is the LAST time these guys will be on stage, and after 15 years, I wanted to provide several articles about their very last appearance at the convention.
You can also see a special video called “Restoring the Winchesters’ Impala” below:
There was also a BIG sizzle reel shown at this panel focusing on the past 14 years of the show. I hope that sizzle reel will be available for mass consumption soon.
It was a very low key kind of day at the convention for Roz, as she skipped all the panels, but did go see Chef Justin Warner (@eatfellowhumans), who worked all weekend with the Marvel staff, but was very sweet in between live streams today.

At the end of the con, she met up with some friends and their friends, and among those friends was C.B. Lee, the author of the Sidekick Squad series.

NOTE: The latest crossover – “Crisis on Infinite Earths” – between the DC shows will be a 5-parter, involving Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman with the first 3 parts set to air in December and the last 2 set to air after the mid-season break in early 2020. It was also announced that Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin will both don the Superman cape in the crossover with Tyler reprising his role as Clark/Superman and Brandon playing Kingdom Come Superman.

After all the excitement Roz had yesterday (it was Veronica Mars day yesterday after all), today was a bit more low key for her; but she did have a great time at the panel for The Good Place (which she will miss when it ends next year). She snapped a few pics of the panel, which you can find below:
She also sat in on the panel for The Expanse, which is reaping the financial benefits of all that Amazon money because the show has some amazing visuals. You can see her picture of the panel below:

Her day ended with a visit to Conanfor some sneak peeks at the new fantasy series Carnival Row and then a low-key meet up for the podcast Fansplaining where authors Britta Lundin (“Ship It”) and Rainbow Rowell (“Wayward Son”) made an appearance.
The Falcon & Winter Solider Disney+ series will be set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Mackie even came on stage holding the iconic Captain America shield. Emily VanCamp and Daniel Bruhl will reprise their film roles too. Disney+ is set to launch on November 12.
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige made the announcement that Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) will take over the role of Blade in a reboot of the franchise.
It was announced that Canadian actor Simu Liu (The Expanse) and Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians) will star in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The original Marvel Comics follows Shang, a half-Chinese, half-American superhero; a master of numerous unarmed and weaponry-based wushu styles, including the use of the gun, nunchaku, and jian.
It was revealed that the cast of the upcoming Marvel movie The Eternals will include Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones and Bodyguard), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and Kumail Nanjiami (The Big Sick). The movie should be out in theatres on November 6, 2020.
The MCU will get its first LGBTQ superhero in Thor: Love and Thunder, and that will be Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson); and it was revealed that as Asgard’s new ruler she will seek out a Queen to rule alongside her.

nExt (FOX)
This new FOX drama that hits a bit TOO close to home will debut in 2020. Here is the albeit long synopsis of the show:
nexXt is propulsive, fact-based thriller about the emergence of a deadly, rogue artificial intelligence that asks us to look closely not only at our relationship to technology, but to one another. Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (John Slattery, Mad Men) built a fortune and legacy on the world-changing innovations he dreamed up, while ignoring and alienating the people around him, including his own daughter, Abby (Elizabeth Cappucino, Jessica Jones), and his short-sighted younger brother, Ted (Jason Butler Harner, Ozark), who now runs Paul’s company.
After discovering that one of his own creations – a powerful A.I. called neXt – might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother, leaving him with nothing but mounting dread about the fate of the world.
When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Fernanda Andrade, The First). Having escaped crime, poverty and a deadly criminal father to remake herself as a force for good, Salazar’s strict moral code and sense of duty have earned her the respect of her team – a talented but contentious group held together by her faith in their ability to defy expectations and transcend their differences, including Gina (Eve Harlow, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), a high-strung cybercrime agent; Ben (Aaron Moten, Mozart in the Jungle), a straight-laced, buttoned-up hard worker, who is boring to the point of being interesting; and CM (Michael Mosley, Seven Seconds), an ex-con hacker with a genius IQ. But the demands of Shea’s challenging job have taken their toll on her home life, where Salazar’s young son, Owen (Evan Whitten, The Resident), has been raised primarily by his father, Ty (Gerardo Celasco, The Haves and the Have Nots), a recovering alcoholic.
Now, LeBlanc and Salazar are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent super-intelligence that, instead of launching missiles, will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
Here is a poster for neXt that was part of a giveaway at the con:
Watch as some of the cast of Pandora talk about the sci-fi series:
Batman: Hush (DC Universe Animated Film)
This direct-to-video animated superhero film based on the comic book story arc of the same name is the 13th installment of the DC animated movie universe that focuses on a mysterious criminal known as Hush (voiced by Geoffrey Arend), determined to destroy both the crime-fighting career and personal life of Batman (voice by Jason O’Mara), which has already been complicated by a relationship with Catwoman (voice by Jennifer Morrison).
Other voice actors include Jerry O’Connell (Superman), Rebecca Romijn (Lois Lane), Maury Sterling (Thomas Elliot), Rainn Wilson (Lex Luthor), Sean Maher (Dick Grayson/Nightwing), Peyton List (Barbara Gordon/Batgirl), Bruce Thomas (James Gordon), Stuart Allan (Damian Wayne/Robin), James Garnett (Alfred), Vanessa Williams (Amanda Waller) and Geoffrey Arend (also as Edward Nygma/The Riddler).

Day two of San Diego Comic Con 2019 was jam-packed with LOTS and LOTS of TV show panels and so much more.
Let’s take a look at just some of the TV shows that were on tap today. [There will be more coverage on day two of Comic Con sometime tomorrow.]
Veronica Mars (Hulu)
Hulu has made season 4 available NOW rather than on July 26 as originally planned. You can now binge-watch all 8 episodes. What are you waiting for?!! Seriously, get over to Hulu and watch.
Best of all, our very own Roz dedicated a lot of her day today to the show, getting a chance to pose for quick selfies with some of the cast. Check out her great photos below:

Also, Kristen Bell got to meet Lin-Manuel Miranda – Hamilton himself – for the first time EVER – and it was swoon worthy.

On the panel this year were actors John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Cameron Cuffe (Krypton), Michael Emerson (soon to be seen in CBS’s Evil), Aiden Gillen (Project Blue Book and formerly of Game of Thrones), Cress Williams (Black Lightning) and William Zabka (Cobra Kai).
Henry Cavill shared during the panel that he “is a big gamer. I’ve played the games a lot. There was something about Geralt that struck a chord with me.” He also shared that he did his own stunts. “It’s very important for me that you know it’s Geralt and it’s not some guy doing Geralt’s stuff but it’s me in there.”
In fact, he learned how to wield two swords – one silver for monsters and one steel for people. And, there is some speculation that perhaps The Witcher just MIGHT take over the mantel of Game of Thrones.
In short the series is about the witcher, Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people prove more wicked than beasts.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Norman Reedus (Negan and Daryl of The Walking Dead) also appeared on Conan yesterday – it wasn’t just Tom Cruise – pretending to be two 16-year-old girls who are cosplayers.
Check out the video here:
OTHER TIDBITS
It should also be noted that there will be TWO more Halloween movies, they will be sequels to the 2018 Halloween movie. It was stated by Blumhouse, “the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn’t over.”
One of my fellow NiceGirls TV staff, Lisa, had the chance to not only meet Orlando Jones (American God and Sleepy Hollow) – you can see the picture below – but she also got to sing with him on the karaoke bus that was winding its way around San Diego during the con. I hope to have video of that soon.

TOMORROW: Day Two, Part 2 and Day Three – Comic Con 2019
It was a BIG day at San Diego Comic Con today with not only Tom Cruise showing up at Conan O’Brien’s special taping along with the first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick but Arnold himself showed up for the big Hall H Terminator Dark Fate panel.
Thanks for our very own Dominick Dusseault, we’ve got some great pictures of the Terminator panel. You can check those out below:

As for the Tom Cruise appearance on Conan, NiceGirl Lisa was at the taping, and let’s just say it was a BIG surprise to everyone that the special guest was Mr. Cruise himself. And, he also crashed the Terminator Dark Fate panel to show off the trailer for Top Gun: Maverick.

As for Terminator Dark Fate news, James Cameron wasn’t in attendance at the panel, but he livestreamed a message form the set of Avatar and the news dropped that Judgment Day’s Edward Furlong will be in the movie, reprising the role of John Connor. Did anyone see THAT coming?!
As everyone recalls, Linda Hamilton got herself into peek physical condition for Judgment Day, but this time around her preparations were “more internal. The hard work I did was the deep exploration of a woman who’s an outsider whose life hasn’t worked out. I had to go to my deepest sorrows and places of deepest loss, and that’s what makes Sarah Connor, Sarah Connor. (Courtesy i09/Gizmodo)

Among the TV shows that were featured with panels on the first day of the convention were:

It should also be noted that there were a lot of celebrations going on. San Diego Comic Con is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year; Ghostbusters is 35, Alien is 40 and there was even a panel celebrating the 100 years of Zorro. And, the 15th anniversary of Stargate Atlantis:
