ABC has given Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder all new season orders. (Variety)

Netflix has given a second season order to their supernatural drama The OA eight weeks after the first season debuted. The streaming service has also given a second season to the Canadian time-travel series Travelers that stars former Will & Grace star Eric McCormack. (Variety)

Syfy has given the horror anthology Channel Zero a third and fourth season renewal. (The Futon Critic)

CASTING NEWS

Actress Jennifer Finnigan (Tyrant) will star in the CBS summer drama Salvation that centers on an MIT grad student and a tech superstar (a role that has yet to be cast) who bring a low-level Pentagon official a staggering discovery — that an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth. Finnigan will star as Grace Darrow, the Pentagon press secretary and a single mom who deftly navigates the complicated waters of both jobs. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Actor Michael C. Hall (Dexter) and actress Jodi Balfour (Quarry) have been cast as President John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy in the second season of the Netflix series The Crown. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Amazon has renewed Mozart in the Jungle for a 4th season. (Variety)

DEPATURES

Actor Peter Capaldi is ending his run as Doctor Who. He will leave after the annual Christmas special that will air at the end of this year. (Variety)

TV CASTING NEWS

Actress Teri Hatcher (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) will have a multi-episode arc on Supergirl, playing a mystery role, who will become the new Big Bad of Season 2. And actor Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) will have a recurring role on the show, also playing a mysterious new villain. (Variety and The Hollywood Reporter)

Actress Amanda Leighton (The Fosters) will play a younger Sophie (played by Alexandra Breckenridge as an adult), the future ex-wife of Kevin (Justin Hartley as an adult). (The Hollywood Reporter and The Futon Critic)

The MTV fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles has added new members to the cast for its upcoming 2nd season, including Vanessa Morgan (Finding Carter) and Malese Jow (The Flash) [among others]. They will join returning stars Austin Butler (Wil), Ivana Baquero (Eretria), Manu Bennett (Allanon), Aaron Jakubenko (Ander) and Marcus Vanco (Bandon). The second season picks up a year later with The Four Lands in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Morgan will play Lyria, a beautiful and mysterious, young woman who is romantically linked to Eretria. Jow will play Mareth, a volatile and unpredictable young woman with magical abilities. MOVIE CASTING NEWS

Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Cadillac on the Netflix series The Get Down) will play the villain Black Manta in the upcoming fil Aquaman that will Jason Momoa in the lead role. (Variety)

CASTING NEWS

Actor Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey and The Good Wife) has joined the cast of the second season of The Crown, which streams on Netflix. He will portray play Antony Armstrong-Jones, a society photographer and filmmaker who was married to Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth’s sister, from 1960 to 1978. (Vulture)

Actor Darren Criss (Glee) will play the villain Music Meister in the crossover episode of The Flash and Supergirl. (Entertainment Weekly)

Actor Nolan Gerard Funk (Arrow and Awkward) has landed a recurring role in the upcoming straight-to-series Starz drama Counterpart in Counterpart, that tells of the story of Howard Silk (actor JK Simmons), a lowly cog in a bureaucratic agency, who discovers that the agency he works for is really guarding a crossing into a parallel dimension. Funk will play Angel Eyes, a mysterious guest who has been sent to our world from the other side with deadly purpose. (Deadline)

Actress Melora Hardin (Transparent) will appear in The Blacklist, playing Isabella Stone, who is described as a socialite by day, character assassin by night, who is ruthless when it comes to taking out targets and uses methods including scandal, public humiliation, extortion and theft. Actress Jennifer Beals (Flashdance) has landed a recurring role in the upcoming Amazon drama The Last Tycoon that will center on Monroe Stahr (Matt Bomer from White Collar), Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio, the brawny, imposing, charming and vain Pat Brady (Kelsey Grammer from Frasier). Beals will play Margo Taft, a regal, dignified and scheming Hollywood royalty star who came up through the school of hard knocks and gets her way on every picture, playing mind games to establish her absolute supremacy on the set. Actor Daniel Lissing (When Calls the Heart) will guest star in an upcoming episode of the NBC drama Timeless, portraying Jesse James. Also, actor Jim Beaver (Supernatural) will appear in the final three episodes of the show, playing NSA Agent Neville, who comes to Mason Industries to lock horns with Agent Christopher (Sakina Jaffrey). Actor James Kyson (Heroes) will make a guest appearance on Elementary as Joey, the fast-talking CEO of a game gear company and owner of an eSports franchise. (TV Line)

Actress Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) will have a recurring role in the upcoming Netflix drama The Handmaid’s Tale, starring opposite actress Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men) [who has the lead role] in the series that is based on the novel by Margaret Atwood that follows Offred (Moss), who is forced into subjugation in an attempt to repopulate the fictional, male-dominated society of Gilead. He will play Henry Donovan, the father of presidential candidate John Donovan (series regular Jimmy Smits), a powerful oil man and passionately devoted father who is dedicated to putting his son in the White House, no matter what the obstacles. Actor Harold Perrineau (Lost) has landed a major recurring role on Criminal Minds, playing Calvin Shaw, a former FBI agent incarcerated for killing one of his informants. Shaw has a run-in with a BAU agent and the team must determine whether he’s a friend or foe. (TV Line)

Actor Peter Gadiot (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) will play the nefarious role of Mr. Mxyzptlk on Supergirl. (TV Line)

RENEWALS

Amazon has given The Man in the High Castle a third season renewal. (Variety)

The CW has given an early renewal to seven of their existing series, including Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Jane the Virgin, Supernatural and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The CW will also resurrect DC’s Constantine as an animated series starring the voice of Matt Ryan on their digital outlet CW Seed. (Variety)

MOVIE CASTING NEWS

Actor Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) has joined the cat of the upcoming box office film Black Panther. He will play N’Jobu, a figure from T’Challa’s (aka the Black Panther) past. (Deadline)

BOOKS TO MADE-FOR-TV MOVIE NEWS

Best-selling author Melissa de la Cruz has signed a production deal with Brad Krevoy Television (the production company behind the Hallmark Channel TV series When Calls the Heart) for three TV projects that will air at Christmastime in 2017 on Hallmark Channel. The first movie, called Angel Falls, is about a fallen angel who falls in love and wins back her halo during the Christmas season with actress Rachel Boston (Witches of East End) starring. The second movie, called Pride, Prejudice, and Mistletoe, will be a gender-swapped re-telling of the classic novel; and the third movie, called Nanny State, will tell the story of an FBI agent who goes undercover working for New York’s finest families to solve a child’s kidnapping during the Christmas holidays. Sedgwick will star as Jane Sadler, an overworked television producer and single mother in the middle of a fractious separation. When her young daughter goes missing in the middle of the night, Jane’s world — and her controversial police series — implodes. Christensen will play Ali, Jane’s younger, bossier sister, a capable and pragmatic psychologist. (Deadline)

Actor Stephen Root (True Blood, Justified and Turn) has landed the title role in The Man in the High Castle, the Amazon series that will return for its second season on December 16. He will play the mysterious figure tied to the Resistance movement who collects the enigmatic films that seem to depict alternate versions of reality — the ones the Japanese and Nazis want to find and destroy. Z Nation has been renewed for a fourth season by Syfy. (Deadline)
