The fans of the syndicated series Legend of the Seeker are still going strong with their campaign in support of a season three for the (sadly) now-defunct series.

For the last few weeks, and continuing until March 2, fans can participate in the “February Journey Book Campaign” – a fan contest “sponsored” by Terry Goodkind – the author of the book series for which the series was based.

If you would like to get in on the book campaign, you can visit here for all the details.

The grand prize – a sterling silver pendant of the Sword of Truth – donated by and co-developed by Mr. Goodkind is up for grabs as well as two (2) t-shirts.

The B-Ring

If you are a fan of actress Catherine Bell (Army Wives and JAG), then you just might want to check out the details on the action-packed movie that she is hoping to get done with her director-husband Adam Beason.

Here are the details on the film straight from Kick Starter (What is Kickstarter, you ask? They are the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world.):

The B-Ring is an exciting female-driven sci-fi action film that harkens back to the great genre movies like Alien and The Terminator. In this story, all the action takes place aboard the All-Nations Endurance, a space freighter on a mission to save the Earth. As Earth’s energy stores drop to near total depletion, a team of the best and brightest were sent to harvest a precious new energy source discovered within the B-Ring of Saturn.

Catherine Bell plays Flight Engineer Roksana O’Neill. When a ruthless band of Marauders hijack the Endurance and (almost) kill the entire crew, she becomes Earth’s only hope for survival. The unsuspecting Bandits don’t know what they have on their hands when Roksana begins picking off their crew one by one. With a hidden skill-set derived from years of Black Ops missions around our shattered planet, Roksana wages her own private war in an effort to save her ship’s precious cargo and ultimately her family back home.

When it seems Roksana finally has the upper hand, the Raiders find another survivor (a young female engineer) and threaten things unimaginable if she doesn’t reveal herself. Now a captive of the murdering Outlaws, it looks as if Roksana will fail her mission…but she has an ally no one knows about. The ship itself. Designed to communicate with her, she uses the technology she created to escape her captors but not before learning who sponsored the bloody takeover.

There was an interesting article up at Blastr this morning about a TV viewer named Ilana Rein who wanted to figure out what made Battlestar Galactica fans tick.

What did she, you ask? Well, she spent $8,000 of her own money, producing the documentary “We Are All Cylons“.

In order to make the indie documentary, she interviewed not just the show’s fans but the cast and creators as well. She also got so into the process that she had to imagine herself as a Cylon to pull it off. According to quote Rein made to Wired, “part of my creative process was to begin thinking of myself as part Cylon. A lot of the edits I made were what I imagined a computer would do.”

The documentary premiered on April 26 at the Sci-Fi-London Film Festival. You can see the trailer here.

Legend of the Seeker Cast

When your favorite guilty pleasure show is canceled, what do you do? If you are anything like the fans of the first-run syndicated series Legend of the Seeker that aired for two seasons from 2008 to 2010, you participate in the year-long fan effort to revive the show.

For those unaware of Legend of the Seeker, the series was based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind that followed the epic journeys of a young woods guide named Richard Cypher (Australian actor Craig Horner), a mysterious woman named Kahlan Amnell (American actress Bridget Regan), a wizard named Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander (New Zealand actor Bruce Spence), and a warrior named Cara (Australian actress Tabrett Bethell) as they defend against tyranny and destruction. Image a weekly TV series that was a mixture of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises.

The series was distributed in the United States by Disney-ABC Domestic Television with ABC Studios producing the series, making Legend of the Seeker their first venture into broadcast syndication. ABC Studios funded the project with the Tribune Company acting as the launch group for broadcast to syndication markets throughout the country and abroad. Unfortunately, near the end of the show’s second season Tribune decided not to purchase distribution rights for season 3.

Because the show garnered an average of 2.5 million viewers on a weekly basis in the US, won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition and aired in over 60 international markets, fans decided to band together to fight for the show’s future. Over the course of the last year, the members of SaveOurSeeker.com have raised over $35,000 to promote the show in the following ways:

• Ads in Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter;
• Donating 300 Season 1 and Season 2 DVD’s of the show to public libraries in the US and Canada;
• Placing a bus shelter ad in Burbank, California;
• Doing iTunes episode giveaways at Comic Con, DragonCon and NY Comic Con; and,
• Placing online banner ads on Facebook and Google.

While most TV campaigns are an uphill battle because it is difficult to convince any distributor or studio to continue with a canceled show, the members of SaveOurSeeker.com are dedicated to their cause.

If you would like to get involved in the fan efforts to save the TV series Legend of the Seeker, please contact them via email at contact@saveourseeker.com and/or visit their website here.
