On September 4, the hit Canadian series Lost Girl will return to the Showcase channel in Canada for its second season. Before that premiere episode airs for Canadian viewers – and eventually becomes available online for the rest of us – it only seemed right to take some time to revisit the show’s first season.

First, let’s review what Lost Girl is all about. The show chronicles the life of Bo (Anna Silk), a bisexual succubus who grew up in an adopted human family, unaware of her non-human nature. Her powers only became apparent to her when she accidentally killed her first love by draining him of his life energy, forcing her to flee from her home. She exchanges her normal life for one without family or friends, moving from place to place.

Now, let’s take a look at the 13 episodes that comprised season one:

Kenzi and Bo

Episode One (Pilot)
Title: It’s a Fae, Fae, Fae, Fae World

Episode Synopsis: Bo saves a human girl named Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) and the two quickly become friends. Bo quickly learns about her real background within the world of the Fae, beings from the supernatural world. Kenzi convinces Bo that they should create a detective agency. Eventually Bo is confronted with having to choose a side within the Fae – either the Light or the Dark), but she declares herself neutral, deciding to side with humans. She soon develops a romantic relationship with both Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried), a wolf shape-shifting police detective and Dr. Lauren (Zoie Palmer), a human doctor, who works for the Light Fae.

Episode Two
Title: Where There’s a Will, There’s a Fae

Episode Synopsis: Bo agrees to help a ‘will-o’-the-wisp’ (otherwise known as a Jack-o-lantern, ghost or fairy) to find the person who stole his treasure in exchange for information on her birth parents.

Episode Three
Title: Oh Kappa, My Kappa

Episode Synopsis: Bo and Kenzi open their private investigation office with their first job being that of finding a missing student at a local college. Kenzi goes undercover within the college as a pledge at a sorority house while Bo goes undercover as part of campus security in order to learn what really happened. Meanwhile, Bo and Dyson’s relationship goes on the rocks.

Dyson, Bo and Lauren

Episode Four
Title: Faetal Attraction

Episode Synopsis: Bo tries to handle Dyson’s rejection with Kenzi’s help. Meanwhile, a fury – or a deity of vengeance – and her husband hire Bo to kill a human. But because Bo refuses and all hell breaks loose.

Episode Five
Title: Dead Lucky

Episode Synopsis: Bo is hired by a Dark Fae to find out how a human managed to win a bet with him. The reward for finding out is having an Oracle reveal something of Bo’s past to her. Of course, she solves the mystery and learns that her birth mother is alive and coming for her.

Trick

Episode Six
Title: Food for Thought

Episode Synopsis: Bo and Kenzi follow Dr. Lauren as she tends to a sick Aswang, a Fae that is a carrion eater. Unfortunately, Kenzi eats some soup that made the Aswang sick, which in turn makes Kenzi gravely ill. Dyson and Trick (Rick Howland), the owner of a Fae bar, attempt to tend to Kenzi while Dr. Lauren and Bo work to find a cure for her. Meanwhile, Bo learns how to control her powers with the help of Dr. Lauren.

Episode Seven
Title: ArachnoFaebia

Episode Synopsis: A Djieine, a Fae creature that is similar to a giant spider, causes major havoc in the lives of Bo and those in her life, including Dyson’s partner Detective Hale (K.C. Collins) as well as a number of other unfortunate victims because once the Djieine bites its victims; they experience paranoia that drives them to kill each other. Dyson and Dr. Lauren race the clock to safe all the victims’ lives.

Hale

Episode Eight
Title: Vexed

Episode Synopsis: Bo gets a possible lead on her birth mother from a vampire, who leads her to an inmate on death row; but that ends up being a false lead. When that vampire turns up dead, Bo discovers the real murderer is a Dark Fae named Vex. Seeking retribution, Bo goes to battle with Vex, but due to his overwhelming power Bo almost loses her life. Meanwhile, Dr. Lauren is forced to betray Bo to the leader of the Light Fae, causing a major rift in their relationship.

Episode Nine
Title: Fae Day

Episode Synopsis: On the holiest day within the entire Fae world, which is called La Shoshain, a Banshee – a female fairy that wails if someone is about to die – calls out the death of one of the people in Trick’s bar. In her attempt to solve who will die, Bo gets involved in a long held fight among one of the Noble Fae families. Meanwhile, a truth about Trick is revealed.

Episode Ten
Title: The Mourning After

Episode Synopsis: Bo is hired to investigate the suicide of a woman by her sister, which leads her to a Dark Fae succubus named Saskia. More clues lead Bo to an Albaster, the natural enemy of the succubi, which leads her right into a battle for which she is not fully prepared. In the course of this investigation and battle, she makes a decision about Saskia’s involvement in her life, eventually asking her to leave.

Episode Eleven
Title: Faetal Justice

Episode Synopsis: Dyson wakes up outside a club with a recently deceased Dark Fae beside him and blood all over his body. He seeks sanctuary from Trick at the Fae bar because he has no memory of what happened. In order to save Dyson’s life, Bo races against time to find out what really happened that night.

Episode Twelve
Title: (Dis)Members Only

Episode Synopsis: A friend from Kenzi’s past asks her to help find a missing relative. In order to do so, Bo and Dyson pose as a married couple to investigate a country club – the last place the missing relative was seen. They learn that a Dark Fae called a Land Wight is responsible for many disappearances. In addition to this investigation, Dyson demands that Trick come clean with Bo about who she really is. Meanwhile, Dyson and Bo came to an understanding about their relationship. But, Saskia returns, nearly killing Dyson, but Bo saves him just in the nick of time.

Lost Girl Cast

Episode Thirteen (Season Finale)
Title: Blood Lines

Episode Synopsis: Bo learns that Saskia is really her birth mother. Saskia’s real name is Aife and she has a deadly plan to cause a war between the Light and Dark Fae. She attacks the Light Fae elders, killing many of them. In turn, Bo and Kenzi find a way to stop Aife, but it requires Bo to battle her mother. Meanwhile, Trick makes a sacrifice to help Bo while Dyson loses what is most important to him in order to give Bo a chance to overcome her mother.

NOTE: This episode obviously left a lot of cliffhanger endings for the characters.

As the new season begins, the world of Fae is in chaos following Bo’s explosive reunion with her mother, causing Bo to learn how to “play the game,” navigating the inner workings of the Fae world in order to protect those who have helped her. Bo finds her resolve to stay free challenged, and is forced to question her own morals and beliefs. While Bo grows stronger and learns more about who she really is, relationships will be tested and passions will ignite, but answers will not come easily.

Additionally, American viewers will get to see the show starting approximately this January on Syfy when the first season of the show will begin airing.

Colin Morgan (Photo Credit: Jennifer Schadel)

On the last day of Comic Con last month, most of the cast and creative minds behind the popular European series Merlin – which airs on Syfy here in the States – visited the annual fete where they were greeted by a rousing round of applause from a packed and appreciative audience.

Led by moderator Jenna Busch, writer extraordinaire for outlets like Moviefone, AOL, Blastr and the Huffington Post (among many others), cast members Colin Morgan (Merlin), Anthony Head (Uthur), Katie McGrath (Morgana) and Bradley James (Arthur) as well as recurring cast member Santiago Cabrera (Lancelot) and executive producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy took the stage to enthrall fans with stories of filming the series, what to expect in the new season while whetting our appetite for what is ahead.

Not only was a special sneak peek trailer from the upcoming season presented to the ecstatic audience but also a special recorded message from cast member Angel Coulby (Gwen) – who could not attend the panel – where she introduced a new recurring character for the upcoming season as well as a blooper reel from the past season.

Among the good news shared by the executive producers were that they are currently filming season 4, which is expected to air in 2012; new storylines for that season will be darker, have some interesting twists, will focus more on the knights of the round table and that Morgana will be even more powerful. Best of all, they shared that the BBC has ordered a fifth season of the series.

While a return date has not yet been announced by Syfy, fans can look forward to the magic of Merlin continuing for a while yet to come.

Do you like Star Wars? How about art? Those two types of interests may not sound like they work well together, but that certainly isn’t the case where the “Art from a Galaxy Far Far Away” exhibit is concerned.

Professional illustrator and painter Randy Martinez and Denise Vasquez will be showing their Star Wars-inspired work at Hold Up Art (located at 358 E. Second Street in Los Angeles) from August 20 through September 15.

Art from a Galaxy Far Far Away (Photo By: Hold Up Art)

The “Art from a Galaxy Far Far Away” is a celebration of the cultural phenomenon that is Star Wars through the showcasing of artwork inspired by the 1977 film, its sequels, prequels and the litany of auxiliary characters created by George Lucas.

“Star Wars became one of my earliest childhood obsessions, and to do a show now celebrating not only the film, but the art behind the scenes as well as the fantastic characters that make up the world of Star Wars, has me reverting to my 10 year old self again!” says Brian Lee, Hold Up Art curator. “The culture and fanaticism of Star Wars had not only permeated every aspect of pop culture today; from music to politics, but has forever left its mark on our expectations of science fiction, cinema and traditional narratives.”

Randy Martinez is one of the most renowned illustrators of his time. His work depicting Lucasfilms’ Star Wars characters launched him to the forefront of the genre, and can be seen in Star Wars Insider, Scholastic Books, Topps Trading Cards, and the Star Wars Celebrations II-V (Europe and Japan). In addition to his work on Star Wars, Randy is one of today’s premiere sketch card artists. He is a fixture for Topps Trading Cards. He began drawing for them in 2004 and garnered numerous accolades on titles such as Lord of the Rings, Heroes, Terminator, and Marvel Comics. Recently, Randy added the credit of author to his resume. He has published two titles with Impact Books, “Creature Features: Learn to Draw Monsters and Aliens” and “Sketch Card Mania”.

Denise Vasquez is an artist working in many mediums: actress, illustrator, author, custom toy designer and award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist. She current creates custom vinyl toys for Ben Pot Toiz, and has worked with other companies such as DKE Toys, Topps and others. Denise’s vinyl dolls have been collected by Stan Lee and are featured on Conan O’Brien’s “COCO MoCa: Museum of Conan Art”.

Alongside the paintings and reproductions of Randy’s work, Denise will be featuring several original hand-crafted vinyl toys, including the unveiling of her Dia de Los Meurtos take on the Darth Vader helmet. This one of a kind helmet will be up for auction throughout the exhibition. Bids will be accepted online and over the phone. Interested bidders should contact Hold Up Art at (213) 221-4585 for further details.

There will be an opening reception on August 20, 2011 from 7 PM to 11 PM where a musical mash up of Randy and Denise’s favorite music will be featured along with selections from the Star Wars score and even favorite clips from the Star Wars films projected in the gallery

For more information about this and other exhibits, please visit Hold Up Art here.

Actress Leslie Hope, who appeared as Terri Bauer, the wife of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in the first season of the groundbreaking FOX drama 24 and who will be one of the lead characters in the new supernatural ABC series The River, which debuts this fall.

As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words and I have six to share with you from that panel that provided each panelist a chance to talk about the cultural affect their respective show(s) had on the worldwide audience and their hopes for the futures of each of their shows.

Leslie Hope (Photo Credit: Rueben)

It was a panel filled with a lot of great clips from each of their shows, lots of laughs and very few spoilers; but it was a great panel.

Enjoy the pictures and thanks to TV Guide Magazine for hosting the panel and Comic Con for always providing a great time at the con.

Syfy’s popular series Haven will become the first television series to create a storyline that flows between the show itself and the micro-blogging service Twitter when it launches a special seven-episode arc beginning Friday, August 12, at 10 PM (Eastern and Pacific Time).

In the story, Vince (Richard Donat) and Dave (John Dunsworth), who run the newspaper in Haven, join Twitter as newcomers to the medium. Viewers who follow their characters (@VinceHaven, @DaveHaven) will see them interact with a mysterious Twitter user (@ColdInHaven) who knows more about Haven – and Vince and Dave – than anyone should.

As the special plot unfolds on Twitter, viewers will catch glimpses of it in the show itself, where they’ll be directed to follow the Twitter conversation through special promos. The outcome to the Twitter story will be revealed in the second-season finale on Friday, September 30.

Viewers can follow the story on Twitter with the hashtag #HavenNews as well as here.

Syfy and Twitter will be working together during the seven-week event to measure viewer engagement around the Haven Twitter storyline. The findings will be shared in an online case study, with best practices for any network to use when integrating Twitter directly into a storyline.

Now in its second season, Haven, starring Emily Rose, is based on The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. The series follows FBI agent Audrey Parker (Rose), who takes up residence in the small town of Haven, Maine, and soon discovers the town’s many secrets.

A longtime refuge for people with an eclectic range of supernatural abilities, Haven also holds the key to unlocking the mysteries of Audrey’s lost past. Among the townspeople are Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), a handsome local cop with his own supernatural affliction, and Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour), a smuggler and reluctant aide in solving Haven’s troubles.

The rumor mill is at it again with news that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of this season. According to Doctor Who TV, Daily Star and Blastr, it looks like Amy and Rory will NOT be killed off, but they will announce they want to head back home and settle down.

One story idea is to have Amy and Rory appear as “stay-at-home” assistants for The Doctor, helping him out from Earth from time to time.

Admittedly, this rumor is not too improbable, because Arthur Darvill is currently starring in a play called Doctor Faustus until October 2, and the show’s Christmas episode is set to start filming next month, meaning Darvill may not be available in time to film the special.

Also, Karen Gillan has already confirmed that she would be back for season 7, though she never actually gave specifics about her return, and nothing’s been said about her being in the Christmas episode either yet.

While all of this news isn’t exactly new, it does keep the fans guessing about what might happen next.
