On Thursday, there were two casting announcements made at TV Guide that caught my attention. The first was for the new Charlie’s Angels pilot for which ABC is currently working on for pilot season. While the second was for the upcoming Syfy prequel pilot to Battlestar Galactica, which is being called Blood & Chrome.

Regardless of where you stand on remakes of classic TV shows or yet another prequel to an acclaimed series, I wish to present to you some casting considerations for the parts for each of these pilots.

For Charlie’s Angels, the role of John Bosley has been redesigned by the powers that be at ABC with the following being the description for this character: John Bosley is in his late-20s to mid-30s, he has “GQ looks” and a “Peter Pan smile” He is a detective with savvy hacking skills, but a killer six-pack hides under his designer suits.

With that description in mind, I scanned my data banks to find just the right actor to fit the mold and the following are the actors I would submit if I were the casting agent for this pilot:

Justin Hartley

Justin Hartley – Best known for his role as Oliver Queen aka The Green Arrow on the long-running series Smallville, Justin also appeared on the daytime soap Passions, appeared in the online series Gemini Division and guest starred in Cold Case and CSI: NY.

Victor Webster

Victor Webster – Victor appeared in the syndicated series Mutant X as Brennan Mulwray, but he has also been seen in the short-lived series Related, he was Coop on Charmed during the final season of the show and had recurring roles in the remake of Melrose Place and the ABC Family Channel series Lincoln Heights. He has also most recently been seen in Castle as Detective Kate Beckett’s latest boyfriend.

Misha Collins

Misha Collins – He plays the angel Castiel in the popular series Supernatural, but he also appeared in numerous episodes of 24 and several episodes of ER among guest appearances in NCIS, Nip/Tuck, CSI, Monk, Without a Trace, CSI: NY and Close to Home. He also appeared in the Syfy movie Stonehenge Apocalypse.

Whereas, there are three roles for Blood & Chrome: those of the legendary William Adama, but as a young man; an experienced officer serving on Adama’s first ship and a mysterious woman. Here are the descriptions:

William Adama is in his early-to-mid 20s and is a cocky, fearless jock, his experience as a fighter pilot has been limited to simulations, but he can’t wait to duke it out with the Cylons.

For young William Adama:

Justin Baldoni

Justin Baldoni – Viewers of Everwood will remember him as Ephram’s college roommate and temporary boyfriend to Amy Abbott; but he has appeared in the daytime soaps The Young & the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful as well as appearing in a couple episodes of Heroes and guest starring in Charmed, CSI: NY and CSI Miami.

Nico Cortez

Nico Cortez – Nico already has experience in this role, as he played the young William Adama in both the Battlestar Galactica film Razor as well as the Razor Flashbacks mini-series. He is actually currently listed for this role for the pilot episode, but since the pilot is in pre-production it is a little too early to tell if that will hold true.

Matt Cohen

Matt Cohen – Any viewer of Supernatural will recognize Matt’s face if not his name, as he appeared as the younger version of John Winchester (the dad of Sam and Dean). Matt has also appeared in the series South of Nowhere and the online series Rockville, CA.

Officer Coker Fasjovik is in his late 20s to mid 30s, who is weary after a long mission on the less-than-impressive Raptor called the Weasel. He is homebound after just 45 days of the fighting; but he is none too happy when what was to be a routine final assignment turns out to be a dangerous task.

For Officer Fasjovik:

Michael Pena

Michael Pena – Michael has appeared in the shows Felicity, ER, The Shield and Eastbound & Down, but has also been seen in the box office films Shooter, World Trade Center, Babel and Million Dollar Baby.

Kevin Alejandro

Kevin Alejandro – Best known for his current roles in both Southland and True Blood, Kevin has also appeared in Ugly Betty, Sleeper Cell, Weeds, Parenthood, Shark, the short-lived series Drive and the online series Gemini Division.

Daniel Sunjata

Daniel Sunjata – Known for his work in the FX series Rescue Me, Daniel has also appeared in the made-for-TV movies At Risk and The Front (both based on Sandra Brown novels) and has had roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the short-lived series Love Monkey and has guest starred in 30 Rock, Lie to Me and Grey’s Anatomy.

Beka is a beautiful female officer, who has been assigned to the ship but isn’t what she appears; she has a treasonous agenda that could cost lives.

For Beka:

Bridget Regan

Bridget Regan – As the beautiful confessor Kahlan Amnell on the syndicated series Legend of the Seeker, Bridget quickly became known the world over, but she has also appeared in the short-lived series The Black Donnellys and made appearances in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Six Degrees and New Amsterdam.

Sarah Gadon

Sarah Gadon – For those who have seen the Canadian series Being Erica, you will remember Sarah as Katie, a former friend of title character Erica Strange; but she has appeared in the shows Total Drama Island, Ruby Gloom, Friends and Heroes, The Border and Happy Town.

Emily Foxler

Emily Foxler – Viewers of the aforementioned Legend of the Seeker will recognize Emily for her recurring role of Sister Nicci, but she has guest starred in CSI: NY, Burn Notice, NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, Without a Trace, Bones, Three Rivers and The Mentalist as well as appearing in the made-for-TV movie Deadly Honeymoon.

If you were a casting agent, who would you choose for these roles. Please share.

Thanks to the folks over at Zap2It, here are the details on the first Vampire Diaries convention to be held in the United States:

The Vampire Diaries fandom is one of the most active and enthusiastic (we’ve ever seen at Zap2it), so we’re not surprised the fans have mobilized for Eyecon, the very first The Vampire Diaries convention in North America.

Last summer, Australian fans had the chance to meet Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and Michael Trevino at a convention down under. Now it’s time for U.S. fans to have a similar opportunity.

Eyecon will take place in Atlanta, GA, where the series is filmed, from March 25 to 27, 2011.

So far, Paul Wesley — Stefan Salvatore himself — and Rob Pralgo (the not-so-dearly departed Mayor Lockwood) have confirmed that they’ll be attending the event to answer questions, take photos with fans, and sign autographs. They’ll even have dinner with a lucky group, and party at the Masquerade Ball. (We’re sure you’ll recognize them, even in disguise.) Eyecon tells Zap2it that they plan to add more of your favorite stars as the event approaches.

Tickets went on sale today at 12 Noon (Eastern Standard Time) via the Eyecon website. The earlier you buy your tickets, the closer you’ll sit to the stars! You will be contributing to a great cause, too – the event will host a blood drive (starve a vampire!) and is working with Vampire Support to benefit the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.”

Get your tickets while they last!

Thanks to Ileane Rudolph at TV Guide you can see Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski in her new PeTA ad, which features her dogs Chazzie and Wilbur. Unlike many others celebrities who “bare it all” for PeTA ads, Strahovski instead can be seen wearing wings to play her dogs’ guardian angel for the animal rights group’s “Adopt, Don’t Buy,” campaign.

You can see the ad here via TV Guide.

1,000 Comic Con Badges will go on sale on December 15, 2010 at 8 AM (PST). Please read on for a word-for-word explanation from the Comic Con organizers:

“Over the past few weeks we have studied numerous options to remedy the problem caused by the sheer volume of badge requests and have not been able to find a single company solution to selling badges this year.

After two failures, we believe the best option is to use the combined efforts of both a ticket seller (TicketLeap) and a registration company (EPIC) in tandem. TicketLeap will be responsible for managing initial badge requests, while EPIC will send unique registration log-in codes, and process badge registration/payment.

We realize having to log in to two separate sites is an inconvenience, but we hope this will result in a successful and less stressful experience for attendees.

Before we implement this plan, we have scheduled a test with 1,000 4-day badges without Preview Night to make sure this plan will actually work.

THE PLAN:

On December 15 at 8:00am PST, 1,000 4-Day Comic-Con badges will be available by checking here for a TicketLeap registration link. Each 4-day badge will cost $105.00 for Adults and $52.00 for Juniors/Seniors and will require a $1.00 non-refundable deposit and a $2.00 non-refundable service charge per badge paid directly to TicketLeap. You will only pay the deposit and service charge at TicketLeap when you make your initial badge request. You will pay for your full Comic-Con 4-day badge separately on the EPIC registration website.

For this test, an individual may request up to two badges only. If you request two badges you will be charged a total of $6.00, a $2.00 deposit and a service charge of $4.00, that will be paid directly to TicketLeap at the time of request. If you are among the first 1,000 people to request a badge, TicketLeap will send you a confirmation e-mail that will confirm the number of badges you are able to purchase. If badges are sold out when you make your request, you will not be charged anything for participating in this test. If you receive a confirmation from TicketLeap, but decide not to purchase a badge from EPIC, your $1.00 deposit and $2.00 service charge is still non-refundable.

After you receive your TicketLeap confirmation, EPIC will send you one e-mail for each badge confirmed by TicketLeap. Be sure to add registration@epicreg.com to your e-mail contacts or address book so your registration e-mail won’t go to your SPAM folder. Check your SPAM folder if you do not receive an e-mail from EPIC within three hours after tickets have sold out on TicketLeap. The EPIC e-mail will contain one unique log-in code and additional instructions on how to pay for your badges. You are not registered at this time. You must log-in to EPIC and pay for your badges after you receive the e-mail. You will have 24 hours only from the time you receive your e-mail code from EPIC to log in to the EPIC site and purchase your badges. The badges are $105.00 for Adults and $52.00 for Juniors/Seniors, but as a thank you for participating in this test, you will receive a $3.00 credit per badge purchased upon EPIC check out.

Because this is a test you are limited to two 4-day badges without Preview Night only, but based on the results of this test we may set a different limit for future sales.

We understand the inconvenience this process has been, but we thank you sincerely for bearing with us and taking part in this test which we hope will mean a better registration experience for everyone.”

GOOD LUCK!

Smallville

Do you want to appear in the February 4 Smallville episode called “Beacon“? Do you believe in heroes? If so, Smallville wants to hear from you via the Smallville: Believe in Heroes Challenge.

But first, please read the following details of the February 4 episode and then read on for the details of this challenge:

In the episode “Beacon,” Clark (series star Tom Welling) is at an emotional crossroads, with Metropolis divided by a clash between supporters of the government’s Vigilante Registration Act and opposing rallies to generate support for indispensable heroes like The Blur. Clark’s friends assure him that he is, indeed, making a difference in his crime-fighting role as The Blur, and to prove their point, they show him videos from the Internet in which ordinary citizens express what The Blur means to them, what it means to be a hero – and what it means to have heroes and believe in them. One of these videos could be yours!

Here’s how it works:

From now through Monday, December 20, at 11 AM (Pacific Time) fans of Smallville can submit their own video testimonial as one of these hopeful citizens by uploading videos to The CW’s official website here.

In these videos, viewers – speaking in character as impassioned citizens of Metropolis and around the world, fighting for the rights of their heroes – can express what The Blur means to them and talk about why they believe in these super heroes.

Smallville producers and the CWTV.com team will review the submissions and select a number of the user-submitted videos for broadcast as the testimonials that Clark watches during the “Beacon” episode.

In addition to selecting the winning videos to be used in the episode, the show’s producers and the CWTV.com team will also select a number of additional favorite videos that will be posted to CWTV.com following the broadcast.

Rising stars from some of the hottest television shows on ABC, NBC and Disney have partnered with Land O’Frost, America’s third-largest lunchmeat brand, to raise money for charity efforts benefiting Nashville-area residents. This philanthropic program is aimed to help those still in need six months after devastating floods damaged more than 10,000 properties in middle Tennessee.

To assist with ongoing relief efforts, Land O’Frost partnered with eight prominent child stars, asking them to custom design and autograph classic lunch boxes to be auctioned online at Bidding for Good. The goal of this program is to raise much needed funds to support volunteers who are helping residents and business owners recover from the May 2010 floods and help keep the needs of the region in the national spotlight. All proceeds raised from this special program will benefit Hands On Nashville, the non-profit organization that took a leadership position in recovery efforts shortly after the disaster struck.

Lost Girl

Lost Girl is a new Canadian series that started airing on the Showcase Television network on September 12 of this year and in the short time that it has been on the air it has created not only created a fan frenzy on the net but has also performed quite well in the ratings, becoming the highest-rated Canadian scripted series premiere of all time on Showcase.

Unfortunately, the series is currently not available on any cable or major network here in the States nor does it seem to be airing anywhere else, save Canada. But promo clips and fan videos can be seen at You Tube and, for now, the episodes can be viewed online here and here.

The series follows the life of Bo (Anna Silk from Being Erica), a succubus, who grew up in an adopted human family, unaware of her non-human nature or of the “Fae” (supernatural being) world. A succubus is a female Fae that feeds on sexual energy, sometimes with fatal results for humans. Bo’s powers only became apparent to her when she killed her first love, forcing her to flee her home.

As the first season of this supernatural series progresses, Bo is investigating the Fae world, learning to control her powers and developing romantic relationships with both Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried from The Tudors), who just happens to be a police detective and werewolf as well as a human doctor named Lauren (Zoie Palmer from The Guard). She is also searching for her biological mother in order to learn why she was abandoned. She also works with her dedicated “sidekick” Kenzi (Ksenia Solo from Life Unexpected), a “reformed” pick-pocket, running a private investigation service.

Leading up to the season finale, five cast members will participate in a Twitter event where they take over the Lost Girl Twitter page for a Q&A session with the fans. Up first is Zoie Palmer (Dr. Lauren) on December 6, then K. C. Collins (Hale) on December 7, followed by Rick Howland (Trick) on December 8 and then Kris Holden-Ried (Dyson) and Anna Silk (Bo) on December 9 and December 10 respectively.

If you live in Canada, you can catch up on the series via the show’s website here and watch the season finale on Sunday, December 12, at 9pm EST.

The show is slated to return in the fall of 2011 with a 13-episode second season. Lost Girl was created by Michelle Lovretta (Instant Star and Sorority Wars).
