Back from Comic Con

I returned home from my annual trek to San Diego, where I attended Comic Con, last night to find that my home computer decided to die, causing me to go out and finally get a laptop.

Needless to say that little bit of drama has put me behind with some of my postings, but I hope to be back on pace soon.

I will have as much news from Comic Con as soon as I can too.

Tomorrow morning I make my yearly trek to San Diego to attend Comic Con with friends.  Because I will be there for the next 5 days, I won’t have any opportunities to post any articles.  I will do my best to make up for all of that next week when I get back.

Have a great week, enjoy Comic Con if you are also attending and I will “see” you back here on Monday, July 27.

I have been given the opportunity to be in several press rooms during next week’s Comic Con in San Diego. I will be participating in the Q&A’s with the cast and executive producers of the Syfy shows Caprica, Warehouse 13 and Eureka.

If you are a fan of these shows and would like me to ask them a question, please let me know and I’ll do what I can to ask them. Thanks and wish me luck. I’m a “newbie” at the press rooms and want to make a good first impression.

New Writing Adventure

I am taking on another new writing adventure!!

I have joined the team at Examiner.com as their “Song of the Day Examiner“. I will hopefully be posting one article a day (or at least 3 a week) about bands or singers that I admire, highlighting one of their songs.

I do something like this (only on a much smaller scale) on a daily basis during the work week at Twitter and a good friend recommended I join Examiner.com to get my “message” of music out to more people. Thankfully, Examiner.com liked what I had to say and signed me onto the team.

You can go to the following link: http://www.examiner.com/x-55645-Song-of-the-Day-Examiner – to see my very first article. You can even subscribe there to get a notice when each of my articles go up.

This, of course, does not replace my work at NiceGirlsTV or here at my blog. It just gives me another outlet to talk – or more precisely – write about what I love – this time music.

I hope you’ll visit this page when you can. Thanks!

Over 11 years ago, I made a decision that changed my life in a most profound way. After a trip to sunny Los Angeles for my very first sci-fi convention, which was actually my 5th trip to California, I had an epiphany: I wanted, needed, HAD to move to California.

The news wasn’t that well-received by my family, life-long friends or even my neighbors – and in a small town like my hometown – population under 2,000 at the time of my epiphany – the whole town was virtually my neighbors, family and life-long friends (for the most part anyway).

I spent the next year planning my move, doing massive amounts of research on California, checking into jobs, looking at housing options, selling nearly everything I owned and explaining and re-explaining to my bewildered family, friends and neighbors why I wanted to move 3,000 miles away from home; going to a place where they felt only the craziest of the crazy lived (which I knew wasn’t true, but convincing them of that was a bit harder to do).

After all that work and planning, the big day finally arrived – June 21, 2000. I left my little hometown of Apollo, Pennsylvania for sunny Burbank, California. The first few weeks were spent learning “the lay of the land,” finding a decent apartment (which I didn’t have before I moved) and landing a job (which I also didn’t have before I moved).

I was very fortunate to land a job pretty quickly at the very place where I wanted to be: Warner Brothers. And, I eventually found a, let’s say suitable, apartment in Burbank. I may not have been on my way to the big time (far from it actually), but it was a good beginning.

As the years rolled by, I made wonderful friends, gained valuable work experience, discovered the endless possibilities in California and attended some of the greatest concerts, events and TV-related conventions on the West Coast. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without having moved here.

And now that it is 2010, it is hard for me to believe that I celebrated 10 years of living in California as of this past Monday. The epiphany I had 11 years ago was a Godsend; it came at the right time and, as fate would have it, all the pieces fell into place so succinctly that I could not have planned it better if I had tried.

I look forward to spending many more years here, attending as many great events as I can afford and fit into my schedule and discovering more of this great state.

Hey All,

Starting tomorrow (nee today) I will be posting all of my daily entertainment news updates here at my blog. Time permitting I hope to change the basic layout of the updates to make them easier to read and categorize them as well (again, time permitting). I hope you will stop by when you can to check them out. Thanks!
