Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in March:
Dance Academy: The Comeback
Opens: March 2
Former ballet student Tara Webster (Xenia Goodwin) longs to return to her dreams after a devastating injury leaves her unable to dance. Much of the cast of the TV series return for this box office film, including Thomas Lacey, Jordan Rodrigues (The Fosters and Lady Bird), Alicia Banit, Dena Kaplan, Keiynan Lonsdale (The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as well as Nic Westaway and Miranda Otto.
Death Wise
Opens: March 2
Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who often sees the consequences of the city’s violence in the emergency room. When home intruders brutally attack his wife and young daughter, Kersey becomes obsessed with delivering vigilante justice to the perpetrators. As the anonymous slayings grab the media’s attention, the public begins to wonder if the deadly avenger is a guardian angel — or the Grim Reaper itself. The cast includes Vincent D’Onofrio, Dean Norris, Kimberly Elise, Mike Epps, Elizabeth Shue and Camila Morrone.
Red Sparrow
Opens: March 2
Prima ballerina Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) faces a bleak and uncertain future after she suffers an injury that ends her career. She soon turns to Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people to use their minds and bodies as weapons. Egorova emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow after completing the sadistic training process. As she comes to terms with her new abilities, Dominika meets a CIA agent (Joel Edgerton) who tries to convince her that he is the only person she can trust. The movie also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeremy Irons, Ciaran Hinds, Joely Richardson and Sakina Jaffrey.
A Wrinkle in Time

After learning her astrophysicist father Alex (Chris Pine) is being held captive on a distant planet deep in the grip of a universe-spanning evil, Meg Murry (Storm Reid) works with her highly intelligent younger brother (newcomer Deric McCabe), her new friend and fellow student Calvin O’Keeffe (Levi Miller), and three astral travelers, Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling) to save him. The cast also features Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Pena, Zach Galifianakis, Andre Holland, Rowan Blanchard, Daniel Macpherson and Bellamy Young.
Gringo
Opens: March 9
A mild-mannered American businessman finds himself in over his head after traveling to Mexico. He soon crosses the line from citizen to criminal while tangling with shady colleagues, international mercenaries, drug lords and the DEA. The cast includes David Oyelowo, Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton, Amanda Seyfried, Thandie Newton, Sharlto Copley, Yul Vazquez, Alan Ruck and Kenneth Choi.
The Hurricane Heist
Opens: March 9
A team of tech hackers embark on a $600 million robbery from a coastal U.S. mint facility at the same time a disastrous Category 5 hurricane is set to strike. The remaining people left in the deserted beach town are a meteorologist, a Treasury agent and the meteorologist’s ex-Marine brother. Together they not only must survive the hurricane, but also stop the mastermind thieves from accomplishing the heist of the century. The film stars Toby Kebbell, Maggie Grace, Ryan Kwanten, Ralph Ineson and Randy Couture.
The Leisure Seeker
Opens: March 9
Traveling in their family Leisure Seeker vintage recreational vehicle, John and Ella Spencer (Donald Sutherland and Helen Mirren) take one last road trip from Boston to the Hemingway House in the Florida Keys before his Alzheimer’s and her cancer can catch up with them. The film also stars Janel Moloney.
7 Days in Entebbe
Opens: March 16
In 1976, two Palestinian and two German terrorists hijack Air France Flight 139 en route from Tel Aviv, Israel to Paris, France via Athens, Greece. They hold the passengers and crew hostage at Entebbe and demanded a ransom of $5 million USD for the airplane and the release of 53 Palestinian and Pro-Palestinian militants, 40 of whom were prisoners in Israel. When all diplomatic efforts fail, the Israeli government approves a counter-terrorist hostage rescue operation by IDF commandos in what has been referred to as the most daring and audacious rescue mission in history. The cast features Rosamund Pike, Daniel Bruhl, Eddie Marsan, Angel Bonanni, Nonso Anozie and Vincent Cassel.
I Can Only Imagine
Opens: March 16
The film is based on the story behind the band MercyMe’s double platinum song I Can Only Imagine, which became the most-played contemporary Christian song of all time. The film will center around MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard (J. Michael Finley), and his relationship with his father (Dennis Quaid) whom he lost at 18 years old and which inspired the song. The cast also includes Cloris Leachman, Madeline Carroll and Trace Adkins.
Love, Simon
Opens: March 16
Everyone deserves a great love story, but for 17-year-old Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) it’s a little more complicated. He hasn’t told his family or friends that he’s gay, and he doesn’t know the identity of the anonymous classmate that he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing. The film also stars Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., Keiynan Lonsdale, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, Colton Haynes, Tony Hale, Logan Miller and Miles Heizer.
Tomb Raider
Opens: March 16
This is the much anticipated reboot of the Tomb Raider film series that focuses on the first expedition of Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander), the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer (Dominic West) who vanished years earlier. Hoping to solve the mystery of his disappearance, she embarks on a perilous journey to his last-known destination — a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. The stakes couldn’t be higher as Lara must rely on her sharp mind, blind faith and stubborn spirit to venture into the unknown. The film also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Kristin Scott Thomas, Nick Frost and Hannah John-Kamen.
Lean on Pete
Opens: March 23
A homeless teen in Oregon whose best friend is a failing racehorse sets off on a difficult journey to find his only known relative, who once lived 1,000 miles away in Wyoming. The cast includes Charlie Plummer, Travis Fimmel, Steve Buscemi, Chloe Sevigny and Thomas Mann.
Midnight Sun
Opens: March 23
Sheltered since early childhood, Katie Price (Bella Thorne), now 17, lives with a life-threatening sensitivity to sunlight caused by the rare genetic condition, xeroderma pigmentosum. During the day she is housebound, having only her father, Jack (Rob Riggle) for company. But it is after dark that Katie’s world opens up, when she ventures out to the local train station to play her guitar for travelers. One night, she meets Charlie (Patrick Schwarzenegger), an ex-high school all-star athlete, whom she has secretly admired for years. She hides her condition from him and the two begin a romance. The film also stars Tiera Skovbye and Paul McGillion.
Pacific Rim Uprising

Ten years after the Battle of the Breach, the oceans have become restless once again, but the Jaeger program has evolved into the next generation for the PPDC. However, something has reopened the Breach for the Kaiju and a Jaeger has gone rogue. Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), son of Stacker Pentecost, rises up to stand against the evolved Kaiju and the rogue Jaeger to prevent humanity’s extinction and preserve his father’s legacy. The film also stars Scott Eastwood, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman [among others].
Sherlock Gnomes
Opens: March 23
Gnomeo (voiced by James McAvoy) and Juliet (voice by Emily Blunt) recruit detective Sherlock Gnomes (voice by Johnny Depp) and his sidekick, Gnome Watson (Chiwetel Ejiofor) to help investigate the mysterious disappearance of the other garden gnomes. Other voices will be provided by Mary J. Blige, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Ashley Jensen and Ozzy Osbourne.
Unsane
Opens: March 23
Sawyer (Claire Foy from The Crown) believes that someone from her past is stalking her. She suddenly finds herself held in a mental institution against her will and with the belief that her stalker is close behind. However, Sawyer cannot tell if the threat is real or if it is all in her head. The film will also star Juno Temple and Amy Irving.
What They Had
Opens: March 23
When her Alzheimer’s-suffering mother, Ruth (Blythe Danner), wanders into a blizzard on Christmas Eve, Bridget Ertz (Hilary Swank) travels back to her hometown to help her brother convince their father to put Ruth in a nursing home and face the end of their life-long love affair. The film also stars Michael Shannon, Robert Forster, Taissa Farmiga, Josh Lucas and Aimee Garcia.
Ready Player One
Opens: March 29
Based on the Ernest Cline best-selling novel and directed by Steven Spielberg, the film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger. The cast also stars Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller and Simon Pegg.
