On October 20 the Hallmark Channel film I Married Who? will debut at 9 PM.

Straight-laced Jordan Grady (Kellie Martin, Army Wives) is about to marry her perfect match, Peter Drake (Bradley Snedeker, The Closer) a clean-cut ambitious attorney. Before she walks down the aisle, Jordan and her best friends head to Vegas for a bachelorette party. Determined to get Jordan to loosen up, Claire steers the girls to the hottest nightclub for a few drinks and some fun; but when Jordan wakes up the next morning unable to recall the night before, she panics when she finds she’s in movie star Matt Swift’s (Ethan Erickson, Accidentally in Love) hotel suite with a gigantic diamond on her finger and a marriage certificate lying nearby. Before Jordan can have the marriage annulled and put this nightmare behind her, the impromptu wedding explodes into a publicity stunt fueled by Matt’s manager Eric to promote his latest movie. As Jordan tries to mend her relationship with Peter by promising a quick annulment before their wedding, little does she know that Eric has secretly delayed filing the annulment for Matt. With her wedding day approaching, Jordan finds herself more confused than ever when she starts falling in love with the movie star she’s married to instead of the fiancé she thought was her perfect match.

On October 17 the mini-series World Without End will debut on ReelzChannel at 9 PM.

NOTE: This is an 8-hour mini-series that will air every Wednesday.

This is the adaptation of the international best-selling novel by Ken Follett set amidst natural disaster, plague, and war in 14th century England two hundred years after the construction of the great cathedral in The Pillars of the Earth.

The mini stars Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City, The Big C), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows), Ben Chaplin (The Thin Red Line), Peter Firth (MI5), Charlotte Riley (The Duchess), Rupert Evans (Hellboy), Tom Weston-Jones (Copper), Megan Follows (Anne of Green Gables) and Sarah Gadon (Being Erica).

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Last year, I posted two separate articles about books that are being made into films, which included The Hunger Games trilogy, The Mortal Instruments series of novels and The Millennium Trilogy (among others).

It’s been far too long since I’ve posted another article about books being made into films so here is yet another list of books that you can expect to see on the big screen sooner or later. They appear in no particular order:

A Discovery of Witches – This is the best-selling novel by Deborah Harkness that has been optioned by Warner Bros. The debut novel is about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch and a mysterious manuscript who are drawn together. The series is also being written as a trilogy.

The Darkfever Series by Karen Marie Moning

The Darkfever Series – This book series by Karen Marie Moning will come out under the DreamWorks banner. The series follows MacKayla Lane, an ordinary young woman from Georgia who travels to Ireland to track down her sister’s killer. While overseas, she discovers an extraordinary world filled with ancient secrets, vampires and other tough-to-kill creatures. Protag, who has special abilities, is tasked with finding the Sinsar Dubh, a powerful yet elusive book that can help her save both the fantasy realm and the mortal world.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

The Scorpio Races – This new young adult fantasy novel from Maggie Stiefvater has been picked up by Warner Bros. The story follows the first female competitor in the titular races which utilize mythological flesh-eating horses from Celtic lore on an island where the woman falls in love with her horse trainer.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter Of Smoke & Bone – The Laini Taylor novel has been acquired by Universal Pictures. The protagonist is a 17-year old art student who is sent by her awful father on travels across the globe to collect teeth for an unspecified but creepy purpose. This leads her to an encounter with an angel and revelations about her family that lead her into adventures involving otherworldly beings. This book is also the first in a trilogy.

Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck

Tiger’s Curse – The novel by Colleen Houck, which has been acquired Paramount Pictures, follows a 17-year-old girl who takes a temp job caring for a white tiger at the local circus and sets off on an epic adventure when she discovers the tiger is a cursed Indian prince who turns into a man for only 24 minutes per day. Their quest to end the curse leads them through exotic locales in India and brushes with Hindu gods and goddesses.

Insignia by S.J. Kincaid

Insignia – The planned futuristic young adult trilogy by S.J. Kincaid has been acquired by 20th Century Fox. It follows a 14-year-old gamer named Tom Raines, who is recruited into an elite military training academy that wants to hone his skills for use in World War III. He’s got girls, tech, and the life he’s always wanted, but when Tom discovers the military intends on implanting a computer in his brain, he may have already gotten in too deep to do anything about it.

The Paladin Prophecy by Mark Frost

The Paladin Prophecy – Reliance Entertainment and Kintop Pictures has acquired the upcoming young adult trilogy written by Mark Frost (co-creator of Twin Peaks). The series chronicles Will West, a teenager who initially tries to hide his “unusual abilities” before entering a complex world of secret societies and supernatural conflicts.

The Diviners by Libba Bray

The Diviners – Paramount Pictures has acquired the screen rights to this upcoming novel (that will be part of a four-book series) from Libba Bray that is set in the 1920s and follows a group of young New Yorkers with mysterious powers who play a dramatic role when a series of occult-based murders begins to terrify the city.

The Grisha Trilogy (Shadow and Bone) by Leigh Bardugo

The Grisha Trilogy – The first book in this young adult fantasy trilogy is Shadow and Bone, which was written by Leigh Bardugo, was purchased by DreamWorks Studios. The novel series is about a young woman who must learn to control her newly discovered power in order to save her country from the Shadow Fold, a creature-filled darkness that threatens to overrun the land.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – 20th Century Fox purchased this young adult novel by Ransom Riggs. The story integrates a creepy collection of real, oddity images into a haunting narrative. The original story revolves around a teenage boy who journeys to a remote island off the coast of Wales where a crumbling home that housed a collection of very peculiar children stands ready to share its secrets.

Black City by Elizabeth Richard

Black City – Screen Gems closed a deal on developing the feature film based on the young-adult fantasy series from author Elizabeth Richard. The first book in the series won’t be out until November 13, telling the story of a city where humans and Darklings are separated by a high wall but tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war. But when 16 year olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary meet, they do the unthinkable: they fall in love.

These are just some of the books that are being adapted into film. It will be interesting to see how these adaptations turn out; especially to learn if they will become box office smashes or disasters. Do you have a book you would like to see made into a film? On October 8 the 6-part, 12-hour mini-series Titanic: Blood & Steel will debut on Encore at 8 PM.

The mini-series follows the lives of the people who made the Titanic: from the workers who built it to the rich financiers. Dr. Mark Muir, an American Engineer – metallurgist and former Irish immigrant (Kevin Zegers), convinces American tycoon J.P. Morgan (Chris Noth) to hire him for the biggest shipping project in the world, the construction of the RMS Titanic at Belfast’s Harland and Wolff shipyard. Mark, whose real name is Marcas Malone, is a native of Belfast. Now with new name and identity, he tries to hide his heritage from his employers, as he is Catholic and his employers, the Protestant elite that rule Belfast, dislike Catholics. While working there, Mark falls in love with Sofia Silvestri (Alessandra Mastronardi), an Italian immigrant. However, during the construction of the Titanic, tensions rise between the lower-class Catholic and the rich Protestant Elite.

The cast also includes Neve Campbell, Derek Jacobi and Liam Cunningham.

The Lifetime made-for-TV movie Steel Magnolias will debut on October 7 at 9 PM.

Queen Latifah stars in the small screen adaptation of the iconic play and 1989 film of the same name, which chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana, supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children – and hair and nails – all the important topics that truly unite and celebrate women.

The cast includes Phylicia Rashad, Adepero Oduye, Condola Rashad, Jill Scott and Alfre Woodard.

The made-for-TV movie Abducted: The Carlina White Story will debut on Lifetime on October 6 at 8 PM.

Aunjanue Ellis (The Help), Keke Palmer (True Jackson, VP), and Sherri Shepherd (The View) star in the true story of the kidnapping of Carlina White (Palmer), who was abducted as an infant by Ann Pettway (Ellis) from a New York hospital and solved her own kidnapping and reunited with her biological parents 23 years later.

Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness

Chaos Walking – The Patrick Ness young-adult novel trilogy is being developed by Lionsgate. The books are set in a dystopian future where humans have colonized another planet and an infection makes all thought audible, destroying privacy. When an autocrat tries to take over the human settlements amid the chaos and wage war with the indigenous race, only one young man can stop the planet’s destruction.

The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker

The Age of Miracles – The first book by Karen Thompson Walker has been optioned by River Road Entertainment with Seth Lochhead set to write the script. The novel covers a young girl’s adolescence, a poignant family drama and a heartrending glimpse into the everyday tragedies and triumphs that occur at a time when the world might be ending.

Deadmail – This novel, which has yet to be published by Doubleday, is being written by Laurie Frankel. The as-yet to be released novel has been acquired by Summit Entertainment and is a love story about letting go where a computer genius invents a way for people to email loved ones who have passed on. When he unexpectedly loses the woman he loves, he must face his own creation to keep her close or lose her forever.

Empty Coffin Series by Gregg Olsen

Empty Coffin – This young adult book series by best-selling author Gregg Olsen has been acquired by Vigilante Entertainment. The book series is about twin sisters who try to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of their friend.

Wicked Lovely – The series of books by Melissa Marr will be adapted by Caroline Thompson for Wild West Picture Show Productions. The novel is about 17-year-old Aislinn, who has seen dangerous faeries her whole life but has avoided harm by following stringent rules. Now, she is torn between a seductive Faery king and the mortal she loves.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Maze Runner – The novel by James Dashner is being adapted by the author with the Gotham Group producing. The story follows a boy named Thomas who wakes up in “the Glade,” an enclosed structure populated by other boys and surrounded by tall, stone walls that protect them from monsters called Grievers that live in a maze that surrounds the Glade. Every day, some of the kids venture into the labyrinth trying to map the ever-changing pattern of walls.

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

Ender’s Game – The novel by author Orson Scott Card will be produced by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The story is about how our planet has been twice invaded by the Formics, an insectoid alien race; and as Earth prepares for a third invasion, it drafts a boy, the brilliant Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, to train for intergalactic battle.

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle

Let It Snow – Jordan Roter will write the script from the John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle that will be produced by Fake Empire. The book consists of three intersecting short stories about a giant snowstorm on Christmas Eve.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

The Giver – Jeff Bridges will appear in the adaptation of the Lois Lowry novel that follows a 12-year-old who lives in a futuristic utopian society where all memory of human history has been erased. His life is thrown into turmoil when he is designated to inherit the role of the Giver and bear his community’s vast range of human emotions, which causes him to realize that living a pain-free life comes at a high cost.

Tempest by Julie Cross

Tempest – This first novel by Julie Cross that is being planned as a trilogy has been picked up by Summit Entertainment (the folks behind the Twilight Saga films). The story behind this book is about 19-year-old Jackson Meyer who has the natural ability to flash backward in time, but he tends to go only a short chronological distance, usually a few hours. But then a tragedy strikes as the love of his life, Holly, is brutally murdered before his eyes, which becomes the catalyst for his jump back in time further to attempt to save her, but her death was not a random act of violence. She was targeted because of Jackson’s ability and he must find out who is out to either recruit or execute him too.

These are just some of the books that are being adapted into film. Butter
Opens: October 5

Jennifer Garner stars as a small-town, conservative Iowan housewife hell-bent on keeping an adopted young orphan (Yara Shahidi) from winning gold at a Midwestern butter-sculpting competition. The cast includes Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Alicia Silverstone and Rod Corddry.

Frankenweenie
Opens: October 5

This 3D stop motion animated film comes from Tim Burton and pays homage to “Frankenstein” and 1950’s suburbia. It follows a boy who loses his dog and uses the power of science to bring it back to life. Voices will be provided by Charlie Tahan, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau and Martin Short.

Pitch Perfect
Opens: October 5

This is a comedy set in the competitive world of college a cappella singing, focusing on a lackluster all-female group. The cast includes Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp and Elizabeth Banks.

Taken 2
Opens: October 5

Liam Neeson returns as retired CIA operative Bryan Mills in a story set in Istanbul where Mills and his wife (Famke Janssen) are taken hostage by the father of Marko Hoxha, the man whom Bryan left to die in a makeshift electric chair in the original film. The cast includes Maggie Grace, Rade Serbedzija and Luke Grimes.

Argo
Opens: October 12

This true story looks at the plan by the CIA to rescue six U.S. diplomats held hostage at their embassy in Iran in 1979 by convincing officials they were members of a camera crew scouting the area for a Hollywood movie. The cast includes Ben Affleck, Clea DuVall, John Goodman and Alan Arkin.

Here Comes the Boom
Opens: October 12

Kevin James plays a high school biology teacher who moonlights as a mixed-martial arts fighter in an effort to save the school’s music program. The cast includes Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler, Greg Germann and Reggie Lee.

Alex Cross
Opens: October 19

In this outing, Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) is now retired from the FBI but is drawn back in to find a killer only to learn it may be the same man responsible for the murder of his wife 12 years ago. The cast includes Matthew Fox, Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols and Jean Reno.

Chasing Mavericks
Opens: October 26

This biopic is about American surfing legend Jay Moriarty, a young Santa Cruz surfer who famously conquered a stretch of treacherous Northern California waves, but later perished in a free-diving accident in the Maldives one day before he was to turn twenty-three. Gerard Butler will play Rick ‘Frosty’ Hesson, a fellow surfing legend and mentor character to the young man. The cast includes Jonny Weston, Elisabeth Shue, Leven Rambin and Abigail Spencer.

Cloud Atlas
Opens: October 26

Based on the six interwoven tales in the 2004 David Mitchell novel, the film explores the consequences of courage and betrayals across continents, time periods and genres. The cast includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Keith David, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant.

Fun Size
October 26

Victoria Justice plays a whip-smart teen girl who accidentally loses her oddball little brother after being forced to take him out for trick-or-treating on Halloween. The cast includes Johnny Knoxville, Chelsea Handler, Jane Levy and Josh Pence.

The Big Wedding
Opens: October 26

This comedy is about a long-divorced couple (Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton) who fake being still married when their family unites for a wedding of their adopted son (Ben Barnes). The cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Robin Williams and Katherine Heigl.

The Hallmark Channel movie Puppy Love will debut on September 8 at 9 PM.

When single mom Megan Nolan (Candace Cameron Bure) moves to a new town, she feels guilty for uprooting her ten-year-old daughter Caitlin (Katie Hawkins). Seeing that the little girl’s only friend is a neighbor’s dog, Megan decides to adopt a shelter pet for Caitlin. She immediately regrets her decision when Caitlin gravitates to the biggest, sloppiest dog in the pound, Jake. Megan’s beautiful new home is now in shambles and, as Megan considers returning Jake to the shelter, handsome ballplayer Ben (Victor Webster) shows up claiming Jake is his dog — the regrettable outcome of his roommate leaving a gate open.

Megan and Ben butt heads. Ben wants to take his dog and leave, until he sees that Caitlin loves Jake as much as he ever could. Now it is clear: the pound puppy everyone loves deserves no less than joint custody.
