Smallville

Do you want to appear in the February 4 Smallville episode called “Beacon“? Do you believe in heroes? If so, Smallville wants to hear from you via the Smallville: Believe in Heroes Challenge.

But first, please read the following details of the February 4 episode and then read on for the details of this challenge:

In the episode “Beacon,” Clark (series star Tom Welling) is at an emotional crossroads, with Metropolis divided by a clash between supporters of the government’s Vigilante Registration Act and opposing rallies to generate support for indispensable heroes like The Blur. Clark’s friends assure him that he is, indeed, making a difference in his crime-fighting role as The Blur, and to prove their point, they show him videos from the Internet in which ordinary citizens express what The Blur means to them, what it means to be a hero – and what it means to have heroes and believe in them. One of these videos could be yours!

Here’s how it works:

From now through Monday, December 20, at 11 AM (Pacific Time) fans of Smallville can submit their own video testimonial as one of these hopeful citizens by uploading videos to The CW’s official website here.

In these videos, viewers – speaking in character as impassioned citizens of Metropolis and around the world, fighting for the rights of their heroes – can express what The Blur means to them and talk about why they believe in these super heroes.

Smallville producers and the CWTV.com team will review the submissions and select a number of the user-submitted videos for broadcast as the testimonials that Clark watches during the “Beacon” episode.

In addition to selecting the winning videos to be used in the episode, the show’s producers and the CWTV.com team will also select a number of additional favorite videos that will be posted to CWTV.com following the broadcast.

The following are a number of TV related tidbits that have come up over the last couple of weeks that I wanted to share with all of you just in case you weren’t aware:

1. AMC has not renewed their conspiracy drama Rubicon for a second season. I can’t really say I’m surprised by this news as the show struggled every week to garner more than 1 million viewers each week and, unfortunately, it was the slowest moving conspiracy-laced story I have ever seen.

2. Castle received an order for 2 more scripts, bringing their episode total up to 24 for this TV season.

3. After airing only two episodes, which garnered 5.3 and 4.7 million viewers respectively, AMC has picked up The Walking Dead for a second season, ordering 13 episodes this time around. The current season only contains six episodes.

4. If you live in Canada and receive the Showcase channel, you just might want to check out the new show Lost Girl that debuted back in September. It’s getting enough buzz that despite it not airing here in the States it is on my radar. I hope that much like Being Erica is airing here in America thanks to SoapNet that one of the cable providers will pick Lost Girl up so the US audience can see what all the talk is about. In short the series is about a young woman named Bo (Anna Silk from Being Erica) who is a succubus. She grew up in an adopted human family, unaware of her non-human nature or the existence of the “Fae” (supernatural beings) world. Along the way to learning more about who she really is, she ends up with a werewolf boyfriend (of sorts), who also happens to be a police detective (Kris Holden-Reid from The Tudors and The Bridge) and a human sidekick named Kenzi (Ksenia Solo from Life Unexpected). You can find out more about the series here or if you live in Canada you can visit the show’s official website here. Note: The content on this website is not currently available in the US so navigating on the site is extremely limited.

5. If you are looking answers to the Pretty Little Liars Secret Seekers, I am sorry, but I cannot help you. You will have to follow the clues that are given at the ABC Family website here and try your hand at figuring out the clues.

6. The ratings for the 3-part mini-series Sherlock that recently aired on PBS have been as elusive as some of the criminals Sherlock and Watson were tailing. I’ve done as much research as I can to find those details, but they simply have not been posted.

7. The results of the fan voting for the TV Guide cover for December 13 is being kept under lock and key by the folks at TV Guide. The winning cover will not be released until that issue hits newsstands. Be patient and wait for any spoilers that the folks at TV Guide might reveal.

8. Please don’t forget to check out new installments of, or get caught up on the whole web series, Riese: Kingdom Falling on Tuesday and Thursdays. You can watch the episodes here. If the series receives a sizeable amount of views, the network just MIGHT allow it to be picked up as a regular series much the same way Sanctuary was taken from a web series to a weekly TV series.

9. Despite still being touted as the number one new show of the fall, the CBS series (and remake of the classic) Hawaii Five-0 has slowly started to lose its number one status to its closest competitor: Blue Bloods. If the ratings for each of these shows are reviewed closely, Blue Bloods has beaten Hawaii Five-0 in nearly all of the last five airings. It is not a clear-cut victory, as the numbers are very close, but Blue Bloods is slowly encroaching on the number one title held by Hawaii Five-0.

Random TV “Stuff”

I’ve noticed some of the search topics that readers have been inputting into the site lately and I wanted to post a quick note about them in regards to what I know about those subjects:

The Gates – The series finished with it’s two-hour season finale last night; but no official announcement has been made about ABC renewing the show. Once an official announcement is made, though, I will post about it (most likely in one of my daily entertainment updates).

The Glades – The show has been renewed by A&E for a second season and there are two more episodes left of the current season.

Scoundrels – The summer ABC series did not perform that well in the ratings (nor did The Gates for that matter); but the likelihood of Scoundrels being renewed for a second season is slim.

Army WivesLifetime has yet to make an official renewal announcement for this show – or Drop Dead Diva for that matter – but it’s highly anticipated that both shows will be back. The spin-off from Army Wives was NOT picked up by Lifetime, though.

Unnatural History – There is no confirmation from the Cartoon Network about a second season renewal for the network’s first live action series yet. Once it is officially announcement, though, I will hopefully have those details here. Again, most likely in one of my daily entertainment updates.

Boardwalk Empire – I do not know the intro song for this new HBO series, as I haven’t watched the pilot; and to be honest probably will not be watching the series; but if anyone can help out with details, please share.

Lastly, if you have any questions about your favorite TV show(s), an upcoming made-for-TV movie or box office release or anything entertainment related, please feel free to email me at ruebenpreymate@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to answer you. If I don’t know the answer, I will be honest and let you know or do my best to find out the best answer I can.

Thanks!

I found the following at Seat42F this morning and thought I should spread the positive word about this event:

On December 7 and 8, 2010, in an unprecedented partnership, TED and The Paley Center for Media will produce the first-ever TEDWomen: a gathering of global thought leaders and innovators in Washington, DC, connecting to thousands of online participants and self-organized events around the world.

TEDWomen will reveal: Who are the women leading change? What ideas are they championing? How are they shaping the future? It will also explore how women and men often orchestrate different but complementary approaches to ideas worth spreading.

The cross-disciplinary, cross-generational program will focus on how women think and work, communicate and collaborate, learn and lead — what this means and why it matters to all of us. Speakers from around the globe-from anthropologists to artists, scientists to soldiers, bankers to builders, farmers to futurists-will share their ideas in the classic TED format, creating a program that surprises and inspires. The event will convene an international audience of men and women.

“Investing in women and girls may once have been considered a radical notion, but today its value is clear,” says Pat Mitchell, president of the Paley Center and host of the conference. “In developing nations, women and girls provide the vital link to economic growth, public health, and political stability. In the west, generations of educated women are forging new directions in the sciences, arts, business, and beyond. TEDWomen gives us a chance to amplify this striking moment in our global history and to understand more fully the contributions of women and girls in every aspect of our life and work.”

“TED’s entire focus as an organization is on ‘ideas worth spreading,’ and there’s a rich vein of powerful ideas to share about women’s role as change agents,” says Chris Anderson, Curator of TED. “We’re eager to begin a global conversation that will continue long after the event about the new-and sometimes old-ways that women are shaping the future.”

Speakers you will hear from at TEDWomen include:

* The women who redesigned their country’s financial system in the wake of near-catastrophe;

* The physician who discovered the life-saving importance of treating men and women differently

* The tech pioneer whose human-centered approach is redefining how we interact with computers

* A world leader bringing peace to her conflict-ridden nation

* The teenage filmmaker whose stories changed how a community saw itself

* A maverick CEO whose ideas on women and leadership will surprise you

* The anthropologist who traces altruism to the mother-child bond

* The sports champion who defies convention with her ability and her appearance

* The explorer collecting stories and preserving languages of endangered cultures

TEDWomen will be held at the International Trade Center, located on historic Pennsylvania Avenue, and will close with a celebratory evening program, the first event held at the newly built, architecturally stunning United States Institute of Peace.

TEDWomen also will be connected live to self-organized events across the globe as part of the TEDx program, which allows licensed individuals and organizations to hold their own TED-like events. These gatherings will connect thousands of people from every continent, creating a global dialogue over the course of the two-day event.

TEDWomen will be supported by partner companies that have powerful brand stories to tell around women. These will include Abu Dhabi’s Shawati’ Magazine, AOL, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women, The Coca-Cola Company, and The Levi’s® Brand for Women. Each will contribute to the conference and also play a key role in amplifying the ideas after the event.

Registration for TEDWomen is available at http://conferences.ted.com/TEDWomen/ beginning Thursday, July 15, 2010.

Groups or individuals around the world are encouraged to hold their own independently organized TEDx event in conjunction with TEDWomen. More than 600 TEDx events have been held to date, in more than 98 countries and 25 languages.

About TED: TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a simulcast, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Oxford, UK. TEDGlobal 2010, “And Now the Good News,” is being held this week in Oxford, UK. TEDWomen, “Revealing the Ideas of Women and Girls Worldwide,” will be held December 7-8, 2010, in Washington, DC, with partner events worldwide.
