American Gothic

On June 22, the new CBS series American Gothic will debut at 10 PM.

The series is about a prominent Boston family reeling in the wake of the chilling discovery that someone in their midst is linked to an infamous string of murders. As shocking secrets from the past and present are revealed, their mounting suspicion and paranoia that one of them is a killer threatens to tear the family apart.

The cast includes Justin Chatwin (Shameless), Stephanie Leonidas (Defiance), Elliot Knight (Sinbad and Once Upon a Time), Anthony Starr (Banshee), Megan Ketch (Jane the Virgin) and Virginia Madsen (Sideways).

Greenleaf

On June 21 and June 22, the new OWN 13-episode series Greenleaf will air its two-night debut at 10 PM both nights

The series centers on the journey of estranged daughter and disillusioned preacher Grace Greenleaf (Merle Dandridge from The Night Shift and Star-Crossed), who has returned home after 20 years on the occasion of the mysterious death of her sister, Faith. As she re-enters the world of Calvary Fellowship World Ministries, the Memphis megachurch run by her powerful parents Bishop James Greenleaf (Keith David) and Lady Mae Greenleaf (Lynn Whitfield), it becomes evident that things are not as virtuous as they seem and that the family’s outward display of faith hides sin and misdeeds.

In a recurring role, Oprah Winfrey will play Grace’s aunt Mavis, a blues club owner, who reveals some shocking information about Grace’s uncle Mac (Gregory Alan Williams). Mavis is still estranged from the Greenleaf family and it starts to become evident that she intends to use Grace to sow the seeds of destruction.

Queen of the South

The new USA Network drama Queen of the South will debut on June 21 at 10 PM.

Based on the global best-selling novel “La Reina Del Sur,” this series tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), a woman who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. In the process, she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run.

The cast includes Peter Gadiot (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Matador) and Justina Machado (Devious Maids and Private Practice).

Guilt

The new FreeForm series Guilt will debut on June 13 at 9 PM.

The definition of guilt is being responsible for wrongdoing or a crime. In the murder of Molly Ryan, many are guilty in different ways, but only one is truly guilty of her murder. When Natalie’s sister Grace (Daisy Head from When Calls the Heart movie) becomes the prime suspect in her roommate Molly’s murder and popular target for the press and in social media, Natalie leaves her life in Boston and heads to London to defend her.

With the help of an ethically questionable ex-pat lawyer Stan Gutterie (Billy Zane), Natalie starts to question how innocent her sister may really be as more ugly truths start to emerge.

The cast includes Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy and Merlin) and Kevin Ryan (Copper).

Braindead

Braindead is the new comic-thriller series to debut on CBS on June 13 at 10 PM.

The show is set in the world of Washington, D.C. politics that follows Laurel (Mary Elizabeth Winstead from Mercy Street), a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer who discovers two things: the government has stopped working, and bugs are eating the brains of Congress members and Hill staffers.

The cast includes Aaron Tveit (Graceland), Danny Pino (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), and Tony Shalhoub (Monk).

Outlander 2014

Attention Outlander Fans!

It was recently revealed that the season finale of the Outlander’s second season will actually run 90-minutes and will feature the introduction of Claire and Jamie’s grown daughter Brianna (to be played by Sophie Skelton) and grown Roger Wakefield (to be played by Richard Rankin), the adopted son of Reverend Wakefield.

Here is the full synopsis of the season finale (SPOILER ALERT!):

Flashing forward to 1968, Claire travels to Scotland with her twenty-year-old daughter, Brianna, and meets Roger Wakefield. Claire visits Lallybroch and Culloden Moor to make peace with the past, while Brianna and Roger bond over researching Randall family history. Claire finally reveals the truth to Brianna about her time travel through the stones, her life in the 1700’s Scotland, and Brianna’s true parentage.

The story is intercut with another one set in the 18th century, taking place on the day of the Battle of Culloden. When Jamie’s last ditch attempts to deter The Prince fail, he and Claire come up with a dangerous plan – which Dougal overhears, inciting him to a murderous rage. Jamie must do everything he can to save the ones he loves, even if it means saying goodbye to some — or all — of them.

The season finale of Outlander will air on Starz on Saturday, July 9 at 9 PM.

Fans should also take note that there will be a season two marathon on July 2, starting at 12 Noon (Eastern).

Animal Kingdom

On June 7, the new TNT drama Animal Kingdom will debut at 9 PM.

The series follows a 17-year-old boy, who, after the death of his mother, moves in with the Codys, a criminal family clan governed by matriarch Smurf (Ellen Barkin).

The cast includes Scott Speedman (Felicity) and Shawn Hatosy (Southland).

Cleverman

On June 1, the new Australian series Cleverman will debut on SundanceTV at 10 PM.

Set in the near future, the series is a startlingly original drama rooted in Aboriginal mythology, depicting a deeply conflicted and anxious society, fearful of a minority group living among them, endowed with extraordinary physical traits.

One young man – The Cleverman – struggles with his own power and the responsibility to unite this divided world, but he must first overcome a deep estrangement from his older brother.

Opens: June 3

Captain William Stanaforth (Mark Strong) is on a one-way solo mission to Mars, taking humanity’s first steps towards colonizing it. Although the entire world is watching him, he is completely alone in a dark and distant sea of stars. Stanaforth rockets bravely through space facing insurmountable odds, but as the journey takes a toll on his life-sustaining systems, he is forced to make impossible choices that threaten his sanity, mission and very existence. The cast includes Luke Wilson and Sanaa Lathan.

Me Before You
Opens: June 3

Young and quirky Louisa “Lou” Clark (Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones) moves from one job to the next to help her family make ends meet. Her cheerful attitude is put to the test when she becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor (Sam Claflin from The Hunger Games franchise), a wealthy young banker left paralyzed from an accident two years earlier. Will’s cynical outlook starts to change when Louisa shows him that life is worth living. As their bond deepens, their lives and hearts change in ways neither one could have imagined. The cast includes Janet McTeer, Charles Dance, Brendan Coyle and Jenna Coleman.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
Opens: June 3

The Turtles come into conflict with T.C.R.I. scientist Dr. Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and the return of their enemy, The Shredder (Brian Tee), who has hired Stockman to create mutants of his own in the form of Bebop and Rocksteady to even the score, during which the Turtles discover a Retro-Mutagen in hopes they can become humans. Following an extraterrestrial invasion above New York City led by the Dimension X inhabitant known as Krang. Upon Krang’s Invasion, the Turtles are joined in the fight with their Master Splinter, their human friends April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) and new friend, vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell from Arrow). The film also stars William Fichtner and Brittany Ishibashi.

Genius
Opens: June 10

The story of Genius follows the story of American Southern writer Thomas Wolfe (Jude Law) and his connections with New Yorker Maxwell Perkins (Colin Firth), the publisher. Perkins had already previously published works by the great American writers Ernest Hemingway (Dominic West) and F. Scott Fitzgerald (Guy Pearce). The story also follows the almost “romantic” affair between Wolfe and Perkins. The cast also includes Nicole Kidman and Laura Linney.

Now You See Me 2
Opens: June 10

The illusionists (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Lizzy Caplan) known as the Four Horsemen must perform an unprecedented stunt to clear their names and expose the unethical practices of a tech magnate. The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Daniel Radcliffe, Sanaa Lathan, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

Warcraft
Opens: June 10

Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization, led by the humans, faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their dying world of Draenor to find their place in another. As a gateway known as the Dark Portal opens to connect the two worlds, the humans face destruction while the orcs face extinction. Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel from Vikings), leader of the humans, and Durotan (Toby Kebbell from Fantastic Four), leader of the orcs, are then sent on a collision course that will decide the fate of their families, their people and their home. The film also stars Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Clancy Brown, Anna Galvin and Callum Keith Rennie.

Finding Dory
Opens: June 17

Six months after the events of the first film, Dory suddenly recalls her childhood memories. Remembering something about “the jewel of Morro Bay, California”, accompanied by Nemo and Marlin, she sets out to find her family. She arrives at the Monterey Marine Life Institute, where she meets Bailey, a white beluga whale; Destiny, a whale shark; and Hank, an octopus, who becomes her guide. Voices will be provided by Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Hayden Rolence, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Willem Dafoe, Idris Elba, Dominic West, Bill Hader and Sigourney Weaver.

Free State of Jones
Opens: June 24

After surviving the 1862 Battle of Corinth during the Civil War, Newton Knight (Matthew McConaughey), a poor farmer from Mississippi, leads a group of small farmers and local slaves in an armed rebellion against the Confederacy in Jones County. Knight subsequently marries a former enslaved woman, Rachel (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). He establishes a mixed-race community, unique in the post-war South. The film also stars Keri Russell, Mahershala Ali and Brendan Gleeson.

Independence Day: Resurgence
Opens: June 24

Twenty years after the events of the first film, the international community recovers and the United Nations creates the Earth Space Defense (ESD), a united global defense program that serves as Earth’s early warning system and the main defense force using technology salvaged from remains of the alien forces, with some military forces assembled on the Moon, Mars and Rhea. However, the aliens were able to send a distress signal to their other battalions before their final defeat while others went into hiding elsewhere around the world. The aliens in deep space received the signal and sent a larger and more powerful battle fleet, threatening the human race once more, this time, with a gravitational machine. The cast includes Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner and William Fichtner.
