Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are a few of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in January:

Just Mercy
Opens: January 10

Attorney Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) takes the case of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), a man wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of a white woman. The cast includes Brie Larson, Tim Blake Nelson, Rob Morgan, Rafe Spall and O’Shea Jackson, Jr.

The Informer
Opens: January 10

Pete Koslow (Joel Kinnaman), a reformed criminal and former special operations soldier, is working undercover for crooked FBI handlers to infiltrate the Polish mob’s drug trade in New York. In a final step toward freedom, Koslow must return to the one place he has fought so hard to leave, Bale Hill Prison, where his mission becomes a race against time when a drug deal goes wrong and threatens to identify him as a mole. On discovering one of his handlers, Montgomery (Clive Owen) intends to let him and his family die in order to use their homicides as hard evidence to ensure convictions, Koslow must turn to Grens (Common), a member of NYPD’s Organized Crime Division, to ensure his loved ones safety as he looks for a way to escape when his cover eventually gets conveniently blown. The film also stars Rosamund Pike and Ana de Armas.

Underwater
Opens: January 10

This sci-fi/horror flick focuses on a crew of underwater researchers must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. The cast includes Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassel, T.J. Miller and Jessica Henwick.

Bad Boys for Life
Opens: January 17

The once inseparable duo of Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Michael “Mike” Lowery (Will Smith) is coming apart: an aging Burnett has become a police inspector while Lowery, suffering a midlife crisis, is assigned to head up AMMO, a “young guns” group of millennial cops with whom he has nothing in common. Both of them reunite once again when a fierce Romanian mob boss, whose brother they defeated years earlier, makes a retaliation effort on Mike just as both he and Marcus are about to officially retire. The film also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Joe Pantoliano, Kate del Castillo and DJ Khaled.

Dolittle
Opens: January 17

After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric John Dolittle (Robert Downey, Jr.), famed doctor and veterinarian of Victoria, England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of animals for company. But when Queen Victoria (Jessie Buckley) falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and encounters wondrous creatures. The cast includes Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent and Harry Collett as well as voices provided by Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Marion Cotillard, Carmen Ejogo and Frances de la Tour.

The Gentlemen
Opens: January 24

The film follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who has created a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he is looking to cash out his business, it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him. The film also stars Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant.

The Last Full Measure
Opens: January 24

The true story of Vietnam War hero William H. Pitsenbarger (Jeremy Irvine), a U.S. Air Force Pararescuemen (also known as a PJ) who personally saved over sixty men. During a rescue mission on April 11, 1966, he was offered the chance to escape on the last helicopter out of a combat zone heavily under fire, but he stayed behind to save and defend the lives of soldiers of the U.S. Army’s First Infantry Division, before making the ultimate sacrifice in one of the bloodiest battles of the war.

Thirty-two years later, Pentagon staffer Scott Huffman (Sebastian Stan) on a career fast-track is tasked with investigating a Medal of Honor request for Pitsenbarger made by his best friend and PJ partner on the mission (William Hurt, played by Ethan Russell as a young man) and his parents (Christopher Plummer and Diane Ladd). Huffman seeks out the testimony of Army veterans who witnessed Pitsenbarger’s extraordinary valor, including Takoda (Samuel L. Jackson play by Ser’Darius Blain as a younger man), Burr (Peter Fonda played by James Jagger as a young man) and Mott (Ed Harris play by Zach Roerig as a young man). But as Huffman learns more about Pitsenbarger’s courageous acts, he uncovers a high-level conspiracy behind the decades-long denial of the medal, prompting him to put his own career on the line to seek justice for the fallen airman. The film also stars LisaGay Hamilton, Michael Imperioli, Amy Madigan, Linus Roache, Bradley Whitford, Alison Sudol and John Savage.

A young woman travels to the animated world of Playmobil to find her missing younger brother, Charlie. In order to bring him back home, she must embark on a thrilling adventure. Voices will be provided by Anya Taylor-Joy, Gabriel Bateman, Jim Gaffigan, Adam Lambert, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kenan Thompson, Meghan Trainor and Daniel Radcliffe.

The Aeronauts
Opens: December 6

Daredevil pilot Amelia Wren (Felicity Jones) and weather scientist James Glaisher (Eddie Redmayne) find themselves in an epic fight for survival while attempting to make discoveries in a gas balloon. The cast includes Himesh Patel and Tom Courtenay.

Bombshell
Opens: December 13

A group of women decide to take on Fox News head Roger Ailes and the toxic atmosphere he presided over at the network. The film stars Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, John Lithgow, Kate McKinnon, Connie Britton, Mark Duplass, Malcolm McDowell, Allison Janney, Alice Eve, Alanna Ubach, Elisabeth Rohm, Ashley Greene, Stephen Root, Robin Weigert, Holland Taylor, D’Arcy Corden, Tricia Helfer and Jennifer Morrison.

Jumanji: The Next Level
Opens: December 13

Unknown to his friends, Spencer (Alex Wolff) kept the pieces of the Jumanji video game and one day repaired the system in the basement of his grandfather’s (Danny DeVito) house. When Spencer’s friends Bethany, Fridge, and Martha (Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain and Morgan Turner respectively) arrive, they find Spencer missing and the game running and decide to re-enter Jumanji to save him. Spencer’s grandfather Eddie and his friend Milo Walker (Danny Glover) hear the commotion and inadvertently get sucked into the game too before any of Spencer’s friends can select their avatars. With a new quest offered to them by Nigel Billingsley (Rhys Darby), the teenaged friends must help Eddie and Milo get used to their in-game avatars, get them to help find Spencer and Bethany, and escape Jumanji once again and for all. The cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas and Awkwafina.

Richard Jewell
Opens: December 13

The film is based on an article published by Vanity Fair in 1997, chronicling the life of Richard Jewell (Paul Walter Hauser) during the events that led to an attack at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia where he worked as a security guard at AT&T when he discovered the plot that resulted in the Centennial Park bombing. He then heroically saved lives after a bomb was detonated during the games, however, the FBI identified him as one of many suspects, which led to his unjust vilification by journalists and the press. The FBI cleared him after 88 days. The film also stars Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde and Ian Gomez.

Seberg
Opens: December 13

The FBI’s surveillance program COINTELPRO begins to target actress Jean Seberg (Kristen Stewart) due to her association with Hakim Jamal (Anthony Mackie). The cast includes Jack O’Connell, Margaret Qualley, Colm Meaney, Zazie Beetz, Vince Vaughn, Stephen Root and Ser’Darius Blain.

Cats
Opens: December 20

Over the course of a single night, a tribe of cats called the Jellicles make what is known as “the Jellicle choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. The ensemble cast includes Dame Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson and introducing Francesca Hayward.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Opens: December 20

A year after the events of The Last Jedi, the remnants of the Resistance face the First Order once again—while reckoning with the past and their own inner turmoil. Meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith reaches its climax, bringing the Skywalker sage to a definitive end. The film stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, the late Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Keri Russell, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Billy Dee Williams, Richard E. 1917
Opens: December 25

At the height of the First World War during Spring 1917 in northern France, two young British soldiers, Schofield (George MacKay) and Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), are given a seemingly impossible mission to deliver a message which will warn of an ambush during one of the skirmishes soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich. The two recruits race against time, crossing enemy territory to deliver the warning and keep a British battalion of 1,600 men, which includes Blake’s own brother, from walking into a deadly trap. The pair must give their all to accomplish their mission by surviving the war to end all wars. The cast includes Mark Strong, Richard Madden, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Just Mercy

The film jumps back and forth in time and focuses more on themes than narrative. The cast includes Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothee Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Bob Odenkirk, James Norton and Chris Cooper.

Spies in Disguise
Opens: December 25

The world is counting on the highly famous super spy Lance Sterling (voice by Will Smith) to protect it from grave threats, who in turn often counts on the technical smarts of young scientist Walter Beckett (voice by Tom Holland) to fashion great gadgets to accomplish his missions in spite of himself. However, when Beckett attempts to introduce his newest invention of “biodynamic concealment”, Sterling accidentally ingests Beckett’s experimental work and turns into a pigeon. He must now find out how he can save the world from cybernetic madman Tristan McFord while being such a small animal. Other voices provided by Rashida Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Reba McEntire, Rachel Brosnahan, Karen Gillan, DJ Khaled and Masi Oka.

Clemency
Opens: December 27

Bernadine Williams (Alfre Woodard), a Death Row prison warden whose job has taken a psychological toll on her, must confront her demons when she has to execute another inmate. The film also stars Wendell Pierce, Aldis Hodge, Richard Schiff and LaMonica Garrett.

Arctic Dogs
Opens: November 1

This animated movie focuses on Swifty the Arctic Fox (voiced by Jeremy Renner), who works in the mailroom of the Arctic Blast Delivery Service, but he has much bigger dreams. He yearns to become a Top Dog, the Arctic’s star husky couriers. To prove he can do it, he commandeers one of the sleds and delivers a mysterious package to a secret location. Once there, he stumbles on a hidden fortress overseen by the nefarious Otto Von Walrus (voiced by John Cleese). The blubbery evil genius commands an army of oddly polite puffin henchmen. Swifty discovers Otto’s villainous plan to drill beneath the snow-packed surface to unleash masses of ancient gas to melt the Arctic and become the world’s supreme ruler. To stop this sinister scheme, Swifty enlists the help of his friends: PB (voiced by Alec Baldwin), a neurotic polar bear, Lemmy (voiced by James Franco), a scatterbrained albatross, Jade Fox (voiced by Heidi Klum), a brainy engineer, Leopold (voiced by Omar Sy) and Bertha (also voiced by Heidi Klum), two conspiracy theorist otters and Magda (voiced by Anjelica Huston), his curmudgeonly boss.

Harriet
Opens: November 1

The extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s (Broadway’s Cynthia Erivo) escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes, whose courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history. The film also stars Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monae, Clarke Peters and Vanessa Bell Calloway.

Motherless Brooklyn
Opens: November 1

Set against the backdrop of 1950s New York, the film follows Lionel Essrog (Edward Norton), a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome, as he ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna (Bruce Willis). The cast includes Alec Baldwin, Willem Dafoe, Dallas Roberts, Fisher Stevens, Bobby Cannavale, Leslie Mann and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Terminator: Dark Fate
Opens: November 1

Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and a hybrid cyborg human (Mackenzie Davis) must protect a young girl from a newly modified liquid Terminator (Gabriel Luna) from the future. The cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Edward Furlong, Natalia Reyes, Diego Boneta, Steven Cree and Tom Hopper.

Last Christmas
Opens: November 8

Kate (Emilia Clarke) is a young woman subscribed to bad decisions. Her last date with disaster? That of having accepted to work as Santa’s elf for a department store. Midway
Opens: November 8

The story of the Battle of Midway, told by the leaders and the sailors who fought it. The large ensemble cast includes Woody Harrelson, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Ed Skrein, Dennis Quaid, Mandy Moore, Alexander Ludwig, Aaron Eckhart, Darren Criss, Nick Jonas, Luke Kleintank, Jake Weber and David Hewlett.

Playing with Fire
Opens: November 8

A crew of rugged firefighters (which includes John Cena, Keegan-Michael Key, Tyler Mane, and John Leguizamo) meet their match when attempting to rescue three rambunctious kids (Brianna Hildebrand, Christian Convery and Finley Rose Slater). The cast includes Judy Greer and Dennis Haysbert.

Charlie’s Angels
Opens: November 15

This latest incarnation comes from Elizabeth Banks (who stars, wrote and directed the film). When a young systems engineer (Naomi Scott) blows the whistle on a dangerous technology, Charlie’s Angels (Kristen Stewart and Ella Balinska) are called into action, putting their lives on the line to protect us all. The cast includes Sam Claflin, Noah Centineo, Patrick Stewart, Djimon Hounsou, Nat Faxon and Johathan Tucker.

Ford v Ferrari
Opens: November 15

American car designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) battle corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. The cast also includes Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, JJ Field, Josh Lucas and Ray McKinnon.

The Good Liar
Opens: November 15

Career con artist Roy Courtnay (Sir Ian McKellen) can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Helen Mirren) online. As Betty opens her home and life to him, Roy is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life. The film stars Jim Carter and Russell Tovey.

21 Bridges
Opens: November 22

A disgraced detective (Chadwick Boseman) in the NYPD is given a shot at redemption. The cast also stars Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch, J.K. Simmons, Keith David and Stephan James.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Opens: November 22

Based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks) and journalist Tom Junod, who is depicted as Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys) in the film. The film also stars Christine Lahti, Wendy Makkena, Susan Kelechi Watson, Enrico Colantoni, Christ Cooper and Tammy Blanchard.

Dark Waters
Opens: November 22

A corporate defense attorney (Mark Ruffalo) takes on an environmental lawsuit against a chemical company that exposes a lengthy history of pollution. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbin, Bill Pullman, Mare Winningham, Victor Garber and William Jackson Harper.

Frozen II
Opens: November 22

Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven (voiced by Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad) leave Arendelle to travel to an ancient, autumn-bound forest of an enchanted land. They set out to find the origin of Elsa’s powers in order to save their kingdom. Other voices will be provided by Jason Ritter, Evan Rachel Wood, Sterling K. Brown, Martha Plimpton, Alfred Molina and Santino Fontana.
