Emmy Foundation Online TV Auction

Do you have someone in your life who is – shall we say – TV-obsessed? Or maybe that is actually you. Regardless, you just might want to get in on the action over at the First Annual Holiday Online Auction being conducted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation (the folks behind the Emmys).

Movie of the Week Reminder: Cancel Christmas

Cancel Christmas

On November 13 the movie Cancel Christmas will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 8 PM.

Imagine Santa’s (Judd Nelson) surprise when the Christmas Board of Directors issues an ultimatum: In 30 days or less, make Christmas less commercial and material, or lose it forever. The Board is so sure the turnaround is hopeless that they give Santa the task of changing the hearts of privileged kids so they, in turn, will reach out to help a less fortunate boy. As he views the mission before him, Santa sees the following themes: private school, privilege, rich kids, mean kids, a science fair, a Golden Retriever, and a friendless boy in a wheelchair.

The CMT movie Reel Love will debut on November 13 at 7 PM.

When Holly (LeAnn Rimes) finds out her father Wade (Burt Reynolds) has suffered a heart attack, she drops everything and rushes back to her small Alabama hometown to help him. Cantankerous Wade doesn’t want to rest, or take his meds, or eat healthy – all he wants to do is fish; and all Holly wants to do is return home. But what she doesn’t count on is developing an attraction for Jay (Shawn Roberts) — the new guy in town.

Lucky Christmas

On November 12 the Hallmark Channel movie Lucky Christmas will debut at 8 PM.

Holly Ceroni (Elizabeth Berkley) is a single mother who has been destitute when it comes to luck and love. No one can afford a personal chef, forcing Holly to go back to waitressing. She buys a lottery ticket, kissing it for good luck before she tosses it in the glove compartment of her car, hoping this Christmas things will get better. That night Holly’s car is stolen, adding to her streak of misfortune. The next morning Holly discovers her lotto numbers are in fact the million dollar winner, but the ticket is in her missing car. Mike Ronowski (Jason Gray-Stanford) is one of the men behind Holly’s missing vehicle; he and his friend had inadvertently taken Holly’s car the night before. When Mike’s greedy friend finds the winning lottery ticket he suggests that Mike romance Holly in order to get a cut of the money to help save his family business. As Mike gets to know Holly, he unexpectedly falls in love with her and realizes there are more important things in life than money.

We Have Your Husband

The Lifetime movie We Have Your Husband will air on Monday, November 12 at 8 PM.

This film tells the chilling true story of one woman’s fight to get her husband released from the hands of kidnappers in Mexico. American-born Jayne Valseca (Teri Polo), her husband Eduardo (Esai Morales) the son of a legendary Mexican newspaper publisher, and their two children live an idyllic life on their 1,000 acre ranch outside of a peaceful Mexico town. But in the summer of 2007, their peaceful life is turned into a real-life nightmare when Eduardo is ambushed and kidnapped by strangers. With kidnapping becoming a pervasive and lucrative business in Mexico, Jayne is at the mercy of the kidnappers when they demand millions for her husband’s safe release. She’s pushed to the limit to do everything she possibly can to raise the money necessary to bring Eduardo back alive.

The cast also includes Olivia d’Abo, William R. Moses and Nicolas Gonzalez.

Once Upon a Time – Dream Casting for Henry’s Dad

Just a few weeks ago, the new fairytale drama Once Upon a Time debuted on ABC, pulling in the highest ratings out of any new series this fall. In a very short amount of time, this series has also become a favorite among TV viewers with fans trying to determine who is who between the real world and the enchanted forest realm.

But, one character that is being seriously whispered about is the birth father of young Henry (Jared Gilmore), the biological son of Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) and the adopted son of Storybrooke’s (evil) mayor Regina (Lana Parrilla).

Will he ever be introduced in the show? If so, when will that fateful day be? And more importantly, which actor will play the role?

Well, I decided to compile my own wish list of actors who could play Henry’s biological dad and here they are in no particular order:

Jason Dohring

Jason Dohring – Best known for his role on the critically acclaimed series Veronica Mars as well as the fan favorite Moonlight, Jason could easily pull off this character depending on whether TPTB behind the show decide to make him the bad boy with a golden heart or the not-completely-evil (but close enough) rapscallion who took Emma’s innocence, leaving her alone and pregnant with a child she could not take care of on her own.

Brendan Fehr

Brendan Fehr – It has been awhile since Brendan has been in the forefront of a TV series the way he was on the cult favorite Roswell. Viewers of that show know he can easily play the bad boy; but wouldn’t it be great to see him play the romantic lead. What if he turned out to be Emma’s soul mate, but they were simply too young at the time of Henry’s conception to be together and were, regretfully, pulled apart by the foster system.

Craig Horner

Craig Horner – Call me crazy, but Australian Craig, best known for his lead role in the syndicated series Legend of the Seeker, would make a great dual character from the fairytale world. Perhaps it turns out he is the only one, besides Emma, from the enchanted forest to somehow have slipped through the curse, ending up in the foster system the same way as she. And they fall in love, conceive Henry; but then something horrible happens and he disappears only to show up in Storybrooke just when he is needed most.

Noah Bean

Noah Bean – He is best known for his recent, recurring role on Nikita as CIA analyst Ryan Fletcher, but he also played ill-fated David Connor to Rose Bryne’s Ellen on Damages. Wouldn’t it be great to see him play a character that doesn’t face an untimely demise and maybe even play the bad boy who stayed the bad boy until he learned that his biological son lives the good life in Storybrooke, Maine? Maybe he learns about Henry via devious Mr. Gold – aka Rumplestilskin (Robert Carlyle) and comes to the trapped-in-time town to see what havoc he can wreak.

Logan Bartholomew

Logan Bartholomew – He may not be that recognizable except to the viewers who watched the Hallmark Channel movies Love’s Enduring Promise, Love’s Long Journey and Love’s Abiding Joy (based on the book series by Janette Oke); but in each movie he was the good man, good husband and good father. In playing Henry’s dad, he could shed those lofty monikers and be a bit more of a hell-raiser; someone that Emma regrets having been involved with and someone she doesn’t want knowing about Henry. But, being the borderline genius that he is – never fall for the really smart (and rich) guy, Emma? – he finally figures out where she is after all these years and comes to claim what he believes is rightfully his: Henry.

Venture Into the World of Immortals

This past April I had the opportunity to attend Wonder Con, which is an annual pop culture convention held in San Francisco and is the precursor to the San Diego Comic Con. As part of my press duties for this convention, I was invited to participate in round table interviews with some of the actors and creative team behind the upcoming box office film Immortals, which will be hitting cineplexs on November 11.

The members of the cast in attendance included actors Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) and Henry Cavill (The Tudors) as well as actress Isabel Lucas (Transformers 2). Director Tarsem Singh and producer Mark Canton were also on hand to discuss the film.

The basic premise behind Immortals is that King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), mad with power, has declared war against humanity. The king has amassed a bloodthirsty army, scorching is way across Greece in search of a weapon of unimaginable power that was forged in the heavens by Ares himself. The one who possesses this weapon can unleash the Titans. If this weapon ends up in the king’s hands it will rain destruction on mankind and annihilate the Gods. Ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflicts and they are powerless to stop the king until a peasant named Theseus comes forth as their only hope to defeat the king.

Henry Cavill as Theseus

In the hands of visionary director Tarsem Singh, the man behind the independent films The Cell and The Fall as well as the upcoming Snow White film that stars Lily Collins and Julia Roberts, Immortals will assuredly be vividly dynamic in color and scope. Singh himself is a man in motion, never sitting still and is very animated. He displayed passion for his craft and excitement for his work.

On the reverse side was producer Mark Canton who was calm and sedate; explaining the differences between Immortals and the film 300 was the approach to filmmaking as overseen by Tarsem. And, he raved about actor Mickey Rourke’s portrayal of the power-hungry king. “He is fierce in the movie; wind him up and get out of the way,” Canton explained.

As for the actors, the very soft-spoken Isabel Lucas seemed hesitant to answer questions almost as if she preferred being a bystander than in the spotlight; but she did share that filming the action scenes for which her character Athena participated in were hard, especially the rehearsing beforehand.

Luke Evans at Zeus

Actors Luke Evans, who plays Zeus and Henry Cavill, who plays the lead role of Theseus, both agreed the training for the film was difficult. In fact, Evans shared the training “changed me physically forever”. When asked what it was like working with Mickey Rourke, Cavill shared that “you can learn so much from just doing a scene with him”.

Both actors also felt the pressure of their next high-profile roles – Evans plays Aramis in the recently released The Three Musketeers and, of course, Cavill was cast as Superman/Clark Kent in the reboot of the franchise called Man of Steel that is filming right now but won’t be out in theatres until 2013.

If you are a fan of the “sand and sword” type of films, Immortals will be just what you are longing to see. Again, Immortals will open in theatres on Friday, November 11.

Movie of the Week Reminder: Geek Charming

Geek Charming

The Disney Channel movie Geek Charming will debut at 8 PM on November 11.

Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) stars as Dylan, a snobby popular high school junior who agrees to become the subject of a documentary being made by Josh (Matt Prokop) the school’s film geek. As the cameras roll, Josh and Dylan begin to gain new perspective on each other.

Summer TV Ratings: Cable Series (October)

It’s time to review the ratings for the cable dramas that aired during the entire month of October.

MONDAYS:

Warehouse 13 – The two-hour finale of the popular Syfy drama aired on October 3, earning 1.6 million viewers. There will be a stand-alone holiday episode of the drama on December 6 with new episodes returning next year.

The Lying Game – The new ABC Family teen drama aired its final three episodes, including the mid-season finale during this time frame. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 3 – 1.2 million viewers
October 10 – 1.1 million viewers
October 17 – 1.3 million viewers

This averages out to 1.2 million viewers. The show will be back with the rest of its first season on Monday, January 2 at 9 PM.

TUESDAYS:

Sons of Anarchy – This FX drama aired another four new episodes during the time frame. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 4 – 3.5 million viewers
October 11 – 3.6 million viewers
October 18 – 3.7 million viewers
October 25 – 3.8 million viewers

This averages out to 3.7 million viewers. The next new episode will air on Tuesday, November 8 at 10 PM.

WEDNESDAYS:

American Horror Story – The new FX drama debuted on October 5 and the series aired four episodes during the time frame. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 5 – 3.2 million viewers
October 12 – 2.5 million viewers
October 19 – 2.6 million viewers
October 26 – 3 million viewers

This averages out to 2.8 million viewers. The next new episode will air on Wednesday, November 9 at 10 PM.

Psych – The popular, long-running dramedy on the USA Network returned for another season, starting on October 12. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 12 – 3 million viewers
October 19 – 2.5 million viewers
October 26 – 3.3 million viewers

This averages out to 2.9 million viewers. The next new episode will air on Wednesday, November 9 at 10 PM.

Whitechapel – The BBC America mini-series debuted on October 26, but ratings numbers could not be found for this report. The next new episode will air on Wednesday, November 9 at 10 PM.

FRIDAYS:

Sanctuary – The Syfy series returned for a fourth season on October 7 and it aired four episodes during the time period. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 7 – 1.4 million viewers
October 14 – 1.3 million viewers
October 21 – 1.5 million viewers
October 28 – 1.2 million viewers

This averages out to 1.4 million viewers. The next new episode will air on Friday, November 11 at 10 PM.

Boss – The new Starz series stars Kelsey Grammer as the mayor of Chicago, who has been diagnosed with a degenerative neurological disease, but is determined to remain the man in charge. It debuted on October 21 and aired two episodes during the time frame. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 21 – 659,000 viewers
October 28 – 391,000 viewers

This averages out to 525,000 viewers. The next new episode will air on Friday, November 11 at 10 PM.

Strike Back – The explosive military-based Cinemax aired its final three episodes during this time period, but ratings could not be located. The show has been renewed for a second season, which will presumably air sometime next year.

SATURDAYS:

Doctor Who – The popular series aired its season finale on October 1 on BBC America, but the ratings could not be found for that episode. A special holiday episode will air in December; but new episodes aren’t schedule until possibly sometime next year.

Bedlam – The supernatural series debuted on BBC America on October and aired five new episodes during the time frame. The final episode aired on November 5.

SUNDAYS:

Against the Wall – The final five episodes of the debut season of the Lifetime police drama aired during this time frame. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 2 – 1.5 million viewers
October 9 – 1.6 million viewers
October 16 – 1.3 million viewers
October 23 – 1.4 million viewers (Part 1 of Season Finale)
October 23 – 1.5 million viewers (Conclusion of Season Finale)

This averages out to 1.5 viewers. The show has yet to receive a second season order by Lifetime.

Breaking Bad – The AMC series aired its final two episodes during this time frame. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 2 – 1.7 million viewers
October 9 – 1.9 million viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to 1.8 million viewers. The series will be back sometime next year.

Boardwalk Empire – The HBO series aired another five new episodes during this time frame. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 2 – 2.6 million viewers
October 9 – 2.9 million viewers
October 16 – 2.5 million viewers
October 23 – 2.7 million viewers
October 31 – 2.6 million viewers

This averages out to 2.7 million viewers. The next new episode will air tonight – Sunday, November 6 at 9 PM.

Dexter – The Showtime series return for another series of macabre acts against those who deserve it with the premiere airing on October 2. There were five episodes aired during this time and here are the ratings for each of those episodes:

October 2 – 2.2 million viewers
October 9 – 1.7 million viewers
October 16 – 1.5 million viewers
October 23 – 1.9 million viewers
October 31 – 1.8 million viewers

This averages out to 1.8 million viewers. The next new episode will air tonight – Sunday, November 6 at 9 PM.

Homeland – The new military series debut on Showtime on October 6, airing 5 episodes during the time period. The ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 2 – 1.1 million viewers
October 9 – 938,000 viewers
October 16 – 1.1 million viewers
October 23 – 1.1 million viewers
October 31 – 1.3 million viewers

This averages out to 1.1 million viewers. The next new episode will air tonight – Sunday, November 6 at 10 PM.

The Walking Dead – The zombie fest from AMC returned for a second season on October 16 with a 90-minute premiere episode. The series aired three episodes during the time frame and the ratings for each of those episodes are as follows:

October 16 – 7.3 million viewers
October 23 – 6.7 million viewers
October 31 – 6.1 million viewers

This averages out to 6.7 million viewers. The next new episode will air tonight – Sunday, November 6 at 9 PM.
