The first full day of Comic Con 2018 got underway today in San Diego with loads and loads of panels, focusing on upcoming movies, new and returning TV shows, special salutes to women in the industry and so much more.

Naturally, it’s impossible to focus on every single panel that took place today, but the following includes brief details, pictures and/or trailers for many of the scripted TV shows that were on the schedule today as well some really cool photos of cosplayers and celebs in attendance today.

Siren (Freeform)

TLC member and self-professed #1 fan Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas moderated the panel, focusing on the new Freeform series about mermaids in the small coastal town of Bristol Cove. During the panel executive producers Emily Whitesell and Eric Wald confirmed that season two will see new mermaids in town, “It will give us a chance to dig even more into the mermaid mythology; what their lives are like, what their social structures are like.” [Devan Coggan at Entertainment Weekly]

Charmed (The CW)

Jessica O’Toole, Madeleine Mantock, Sarah Jeffery, Melonie Diaz and Jennie Snyder Urman [Photo Credit: Getty Images]

The 1998-2006 WB series is getting a reboot this fall with a story that is very reminiscent of the original with a few tweaks. Mel and Maggie are sisters who live with their college professor mother. After she dies under mysterious circumstances, they are reunited with their long-lost sister Macy as they begin to manifest their dipowers. Macy is a scientist, who, while embracing her role as a witch, she wants to find a scientific explanation as to how their powers work. The show looks to rely a lot on humor, and will touch on a lot of prescient issues, such as LGBT relationships and the #MeToo movement. Executive Producer Jennie Snyder Urman shared that the original show had such strong powerful women and that in today’s world, there wasn’t a better time to bring back a show with empowered women. Doctor Who (BBC America)

Our very own Roz got to see part of the show’s panel, introducing the new FEMALE Doctor Who – Jodie Whittaker herself – along with two of her three new companions. The first, albeit short, official trailer for Season 11 was shown and according to Roz, “even though I only heard part of the panel, I’m excited to see a female doctor even if the Doctor’s gender isn’t at the heart of the episodes. Hearing that the season will be stand-alone (episodes) and (meant as) a way to get more people into the show (that) makes me hopeful that little girls everywhere will see that they can travel the stars.”

What was even more exciting was that Doctor Who lead Jodie Whittaker crashed the Her Universe Fashion Show, which Roz was attending, and Roz was able to snap this great shot of Jodie in full Doctor Who regalia. Here are a few other pictures of some of the great fashions:

Make sure to also check back here after the convention has ended for Roz’s full report on the Her Universe Fashion Show that will include video of Jodie crashing the event and more great photos from the event.

Impulse (You Tube Originals)

Maddie Hasson [Photo Credit: Melissa Lowery]

The You Tube Originals series based on the novel Impulse by Steven Gould, which received a second season order, took to the stage for the first time; and my friend and editor at NiceGirlsTV, Melissa Lowery, had the opportunity to speak with lead actress Maddie Hasson in the press room, and here is the great photo she snapped of the talented actress.

Tell Me a Story (CBS All Access)

The new series set in modern-day New York City takes the world’s most beloved fairy tales and reimagines them as a dark and twisted psychological thriller.

Origins (You Tube Premium)

A group of people are sold the promise of a new life on a faraway planet that’s being colonized by a corporation called Siren. Of course, that doesn’t go as planned, and the 11 passengers have to figure out what went wrong and how they will survive, while also flashing back to the lives they left behind on Earth.

A Discovery of Witches (Sundance Now)

Owen Teale, Valarie Pettiford, Alex Kingston, and Teresa Palmer [Photo Credit: Mike Coppola/Getty Images]

Based on the Deborah Harkness best-selling novel, the series picked up by Sundance Now is a contemporary love story that begins against the backdrop of Oxford academic life, in a world where small numbers of witches, vampires and daemons live and work, unseen amongst humans, hiding in plain sight. Brilliant historian Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) is a reluctant witch denying her heritage when the discovery of a bewitched manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library throws her into the heart of a dangerous mystery – and into the path of the enigmatic vampire and geneticist, Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), who hides a dark family secret.

Nightflyers (Syfy)

David Ajala, Jodie Turner-Smith, Angus Sampson, Gretchen Mol, and Eoin Macken [Photo Credit: Ben Watts Entertainment Weekly Exclusive]

Chloe Bennett [Photo Credit: Ben Watts Entertainment Weekly Exclusive]

In 2093, in hopes of making contact with a mysterious alien life at the edge of our solar system, a group of maverick scientists and a powerful telepath embark on an expedition aboard The Nightflyer. As they race towards first contact, terrifying and violent events begin to occur, causing the once tight-knit crew to mistrust each other. It’s not long before their main mission becomes survival.

Marvel Rising: Secret Warrior (Digital Short Series)

Secret Warriors will be part of a bigger project, also titled Marvel Rising. The franchise will launch with a digital short series about Spider-Gwen and her new secret identity Ghost-Spider. The cast members include Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, Tyler Posey and Milana Vayntrub [among others].

Better Call Saul (AMC)

Van Helsing (Syfy)

Marvel’s Iron Fist (Netflix)

Mr. Mercedes (DirecTV’s Audience Network)

The Audience Network adaptation of the Stephen King trilogy will be back with its second season on August 22, but the second season will actually be based on “End of Watch,” the third book in the trilogy. The problem with using “Finders Keepers,” – the second book in the trilogy – according to Executive Producer and Director Jack Bender – was that “our heroes didn’t come into it until halfway through the book.” [Josh Weiss at Syfy Wire]

Sona Series (Streaming Series)

The 8-episode short form sci-fi series created by and starring actress Ashley Clements (The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and the film Non-Transferable) focuses on what happens when Lieutenant Belyn Sona (Clements), a United Earth Space Corps officer, has to choose between her alien husband and her home planet, she has no option but betrayal. Trapped in an escape pod with no knowledge of her husband’s whereabouts, Sona is forced to reckon with what truly matters, and what it takes to survive. The series was filmed mostly on an escape pod set built in her Clements’ own apartment.

Thanks to Radio Times and Outlander TV News, here is the first official photo of the First Nation Canadian actors who will be playing member of the Cherokee and Mohawk Nations in the upcoming fourth season of Outlander.

The following are quotes from executive producer/writer Matthew B. Roberts made to the folks at Radio Times on how the production approached portraying these characters:

“Every department, from Production design to costume and hair and make-up does a huge amount of research to ensure we create a world that feels authentic to the time and place.  To build our Native American world, they have learned traditional techniques, from canoe building to hand weaving and, to populate that world, we have welcomed a great team from Canada to play both the speaking and supporting roles of the Cherokee and Mohawk Nations in Outlander season four.”

Here is the picture:

Outlander will be back in November on Starz.
