The fall TV season is well underway on the major networks, but that hasn’t stopped the cable networks from continuing with their programming, airing plenty of new and returning shows during last month.
Here is how all of the cable network dramas fared in the ratings for the month of September:
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
Better Call Saul – The AMC drama aired four new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 3 – 1.5 million viewers
September 10 – 1.4 million viewers
September 17 – 1.4 million viewers
September 24 – 1.4 million viewers
This averages out to 1.4 million viewers in September. New episodes aired on October 1 and October 8, which was the show’s season finale. Ratings for those episodes will be included in next month’s report. Better Call Saul was renewed by AMC for a 5th season, and will return at some point in 2019.
Lodge 49 – The new AMC dramedy aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 3 – 409,000 viewers
September 10 – 363,000 viewers
September 17 – 355,000 viewers
September 24 – 334,000 viewers
This averages out to 365,000 viewers in September. New episodes aired on October 1 and October 8, which was the show’s season finale. Ratings for those episodes will be included in next month’s report. Lodge 49 was renewed by AMC for a second season, and will return at some point in 2019.
X Company – Four new episodes of the third and final season of the Ovation drama aired during the month, but no ratings could be tracked down. New episodes of X Company aired on October 1 and October 8 with the next new episode set to air on Ovation on Monday, October 15 at 10 PM.
TUESDAYS:
Carter – The new WGN America comedy-drama aired four new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 218,000 viewers
September 11 – 266,000 viewers
September 18 – No ratings could be found
September 25 – 161,000 viewers
This averages out to 301,000 viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 2 and October 9, which was the show’s season finale. Ratings for those episodes will be included in next month’s report. Carter has yet to be renewed for a second season by WGN America.
The Haves and the Have Nots – Two new episodes of the second half of the fifth season of the popular OWN drama aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 1.8 million viewers
September 11 – 2.1 million viewers
This averages out to 2 million viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 2 and October 9 with the next new episode of The Haves and the Have Nots set to air on OWN on Tuesday, October 16 at 9 PM.
Mayans M.C. – The FX drama that is the next chapter in the Sons of Anarchy saga debuted on September 4, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 2.5 million viewers (DEBUT)
September 11 – 2 million viewers
September 18 – 2.1 million viewers
September 25 – 1.5 million viewers
This averages out to 2 million viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 2 and October 9 with the next new episode of Mayans M.C. set to air on FX on Tuesday, October 16 at 10 PM.
The Purge – The small screen adaptation of the movie franchise debuted on the USA Network on September 4, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 4 – 1.4 million viewers (DEBUT)
September 11 – 1.3 million viewers
September 18 – 1.1 million viewers
September 25 – 1.1 million viewers
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 2 and October 9 with the next new episode of The Purge set to air on the USA Network on Tuesday, October 16 at 10 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
Suits – The long-running USA Network legal drama aired the final three new episodes of the first half of its 8th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 5 – 1.3 million viewers
September 12 – 1.1 million viewers
September 19 – 1.1 million viewers (Mid-Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for September. The last half of the 8th season of Suits is expected to return to the USA Network sometime next year.
The Sinner – The final three episodes of the second season of the USA Network anthology series aired during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 5 – 1.1 million viewers
September 12 – 1 million viewers
September 19 – 1.1 million viewers (Finale)
This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for September. A third season of The Sinner has yet to be announced by the USA Network.
Greenleaf – The OWN megachurch drama aired three new episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 5 – 1.1 million viewers
September 12 – 1.6 million viewers
September 19 – 1.4 million viewers
September 25 – No episode aired
This averages out to 1.4 million viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 3 and October 10 with the next new episode of Greenleaf set to air on OWN on Wednesday, October 17 at 10 PM.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse – The latest season of the FX anthology series began its new season on September 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 12 – 3.1 million viewers (Season Premiere)
September 19 – 2.2 million viewers
September 26 – 1.9 million viewers
This averages out to 2.4 million viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 3 and October 10 with the next new episode of American Horror Story: Apocalypse set to air on FX on Wednesday, October 17 at 10 PM.
Mr. Mercedes – The Audience Network drama (available only via DirecTV) aired four new episodes of its second season during the month, but ratings could not be tracked down. New episodes aired on October 3 and October 10 with the next new episode of Mr. Mercedes set to air on DirecTV on Wednesday, October 17 at 10 PM.
THURSDAYS:
Queen of the South – The drug smuggling USA Network drama aired the final two episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 6 – 1.1 million viewers
September 13 – 1.2 million viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for September. Queen of the South has been renewed for a 4th season by the USA Network, returning some time in 2019.
Shooter – The USA Network drama aired the final two episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 6 – 593,000 viewers
September 13 – 785,000 viewers (Series Finale)
This averages out to 689,000 viewers for September. Shooter was cancelled after three seasons by the USA Network.
FRIDAYS:
Outcast – The Cinemax drama aired the finale four episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 117,000 viewers
September 14 – 98,000 viewers
September 21 – 93,000 viewers
September 28 – 108,000 viewers (Series Finale)
This averages out to 104,000 viewers for September. Outcast was cancelled after two seasons by Cinemax.
Wynonna Earp – The Syfy thriller aired the final five new episodes of its third season, including its two-part season finale, during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 496,000 viewers
September 14 – 490,000 viewers
September 21 – 460,000 viewers
September 28 – 389,000 viewers (Season Finale, Hour 1)
September 28 – 339,000 viewers (Season Finale, Hour 2)
This averages out to 435,000 viewers for September. Wynonna Earp was renewed for a fourth season by Syfy and is expected to return sometime next year.
Killjoys – The popular futuristic Syfy drama aired the final three new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 482,000 viewers
September 14 – 428,000 viewers
September 21 – 482,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 398,000 viewers for September. Killjoys will return for its fifth and final season on Syfy sometime next year.
SATURDAYS:
No cable dramas aired on Saturday nights during the month.
SUNDAYS:
Power – The Starz drama aired the final two new episodes of its fifth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – 1.4 million viewers
September 9 – 1.5 million viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for September. Power has been renewed for a sixth season by Starz, which will air sometime next year.
Chesapeake Shores – The popular Hallmark Channel family drama aired five new episodes of its third season during the month as well as its season finale on October 7. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – 1.6 million viewers
September 9 – 1.4 million viewers
September 16 – 1.5 million viewers
September 23 – 1.7 million viewers
September 30 – 1.7 million viewers
October 7 – 1.7 million viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.6 million viewers for the above time period. The Hallmark Channel has yet to announce if Chesapeake Shores will return for a fourth season.
Fear the Walking Dead – The AMC zombie-fest series aired the final five new episodes of its fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 2 – 1.5 million viewers
September 9 – 1.7 million viewers
September 16 – 1.9 million viewers
September 23 – 2 million viewers
September 30 – 2.1 million viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 1.8 million viewers for September. Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed for a fifth season by AMC, returning sometime next year.
The Last Ship – The TNT military drama returned for its fifth and final season on September 9, airing four new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 9 – 1.3 million viewers (Season Premiere)
September 16 – 1.3 million viewers
September 23 – 1.4 million viewers
September 30 – 1.2 million viewers
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 7 and October 14 with the next new episode of The Last Ship set to air on TNT on Sunday, October 21 at 9 PM.
You – The Lifetime psychological thriller, based on the best-selling novel by Caroline Kepnes, debuted on September 9, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 9 – 824,000 viewers (DEBUT)
September 16 – 768,000 viewers
September 23 – 574,000 viewers
September 30 – 556,000 viewers
This averages out to 681,000 viewers for September. New episodes aired on October 7 and October 14 with the next new episode of You set to air on Lifetime on Sunday, October 21 at 10 PM.
The Durrells of Corfu – The PBS series returned for the start of its third season on September 30, but ratings could not be tracked down for that episode. New episodes aired on October 7 and October 14 with the next new episode of The Durrells in Corfu set to air on PBS on Sunday, October 21 at 8 PM.
Poldark – The fourth season of the popular period drama premiered on PBS on September 30, but ratings could not be tracked down for that episode. New episodes aired on October 7 and October 14 with the next new episode of Poldark set to air on PBS on Sunday, October 21 at 9 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND MINI-SERIES
There were six made-for-TV movies and one mini-series that aired during September. Here are the ratings for each:
All of My Heart: The Wedding (Hallmark Channel) – 2.7 million viewers
Truly, Madly, Sweetly (Hallmark Channel) – 2.7 million viewers
