TV Ratings

It was a pretty quiet night on the major networks last night in regards to the primetime dramas airing new episodes. And, there was the much-buzzed-about LIVE performance of The Wiz on NBC too.

Here is how those few Thursday night dramas and the one special fared in the overall ratings:

8 PM Shows:

TV Ratings

It was actually a pretty full night of programming on the major networks last night, but it won’t be that way for long as most of the primetime dramas will be going on their break in the next week or two. In fact, two of them aired their mid-season finales last night.

Most of the major networks are now in their holiday programming mode so very few of the Monday night dramas aired new episodes last night. In fact, several aired their finales.

Here is how those Monday night drama fared in the overall ratings:

The end of the year is nearly here and it seems like the year has gone by so very fast. Right?! Regardless of what time of year it is there are always plenty of cable dramas, made-for-TV movies and mini-series to watch all over the TV. Here is how all of those programming options performed during the month of October:

CABLE DRAMAS

MONDAYS:

Switched at Birth – The ABC Family drama aired the final four episodes of its current, fourth season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 5 – 793,000 viewers
October 12 – 751,000 viewers
October 19 – 952,000 viewers
October 26 – 836,000 viewers (Fall Finale)

This averages out to 833,000 viewers for October. Switched at Birth was recently renewed for a new season by ABC Family (soon to be known as FreeForm) and will return sometime in 2016.

Fargo – The acclaimed ABC anthology series returned for a second season on October 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 12 – 1.6 million (Season Premiere)
October 19 – 962,000 viewers
October 26 – 1.2 million

This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for October. New episodes of Fargo aired throughout November with the next new episode set to air on FX on Monday, November 30 at 10 PM. Those ratings will be included in November’s report.

TUESDAYS:

Public Morals – The new period piece TNT aired the final four episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 6 – 620,000 viewers
October 13 – 532,000 viewers
October 20 – 498,000 viewers (Part 1 Finale)
October 20 – 495,000 viewers (Part 2 Finale)

This averages out to 536,000 viewers for October. TNT has yet to renew Public Morals for a second season.

The Bastard Executioner – The FX period piece drama aired three new episodes of its debut season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 6 – 1.1 million
October 13 – 942,000 viewers
October 20 – 833,000 viewers
October 27 – No episode aired

This averages out to 958,000 viewers for October. New episodes of The Bastard Executioner aired on November 3 and November 10. The season finale aired on November 17. Those ratings will be included in November’s report. The Bastard Executioner will not be returning for another season as FX has cancelled the show after only one season.

If Loving You Is Wrong – The OWN soap opera drama aired four more new episode of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 6 – 2 million
October 13 – 2 million
October 20 – 2 million
October 27 – 2.4 million

This averages out to 2.1 million viewers for October. New episodes of If Loving You Is Wrong aired all through November with the next new episode set to air on OWN on Tuesday, December 1 at 9 PM. Those ratings will be included in November’s report.

Finding Carter – The MTV drama returned for the second half of its second season on October 6, airing

October 6 – 473,000 viewers (Mid-Season Return)
October 13 – 523,000 viewers
October 20 – 357,000 viewers
October 27 – 488,000 viewers

This averages out to 460,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Finding Carter aired all through November with the next new episode set to air on MTV on Tuesday, December 1 at 10 PM.

Manhattan – The WGN America period piece drama aired its season premiere on October 13, airing three episodes of its second season. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 13 – 265,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 20 – 191,000 viewers
October 27 -256,000 viewers

This averages out to 237,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Manhattan aired on WGN America throughout November. Check your local listings for the next new episode. Ratings for the November episodes will be posted in the next report.

Being Mary Jane – The BET drama returned for its third season on October 20, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 20 – 2.2 million (Part 1 of Season Premiere)
October 20 – 2.2 million (Part 2 of Season Premiere)
October 27 – 1.8 million

This averages out to 2.1 million viewers for October. New episodes of Being Mary Jane aired all through November with the next new episode set to air on BET on Tuesday, December 1 at 10 PM. Ratings for the November episodes will be included in the next report.

The Halloween episode of the ABC Family drama Stitchers aired on November 20, earning 491,000 viewers. Stitchers has been renewed for a second season by ABC Family (soon to be FreeForm).

WEDNESDAYS:

Ties That Bind – The first original scripted drama on the UP Channel aired its final two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 7 – 90,000 viewers
October 14 – 135,000 viewers (Season Finale)

This averages out to approximately 113,000 viewers for October. UP Channel has yet to announce if Ties That Bind has been renewed for a second season.

American Horror Story: Hotel – The FX anthology series returned with a brand new story starting on October 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 7 – 5.8 million (Season Premiere)
October 14 – 4.1 million
October 21 – 3.2 million
October 28 – 3 million

This average out to 4 million viewers for October. New episodes of American Horror Story: Hotel aired throughout most of November with the next new episode set to air on FX on Wednesday, December 2 at 10 PM. Ratings for the November episodes will be included in the next report.

Kingdom – The DirecTV series returned for its second season starting on October 14, airing three episodes during the month. Unfortunately, no ratings could be tracked down for those episodes. Kingdom aired four new episodes in November.  A new episode is expected to air on DirecTV on Wednesday, December 2 at 9 PM.

THURSDAYS:

Haven – The final episodes of the Syfy series returned starting on October 8 with two back-to-back episodes, as well as three additional new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 8 – 745,000 viewers (Part 1 of Return)
October 8 – 552,000 viewers (Part 2 of Return)
October 15 – 695,000 viewers
October 22 – 585,000 viewers
October 29 – 645,000 viewers

This averages out to 644,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Haven aired all through November with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Thursday, December 3 at 10 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

FRIDAYS:

Strike Back – The Cinemax action drama aired the final two episodes of its fourth and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 2 – 196,000 viewers
October 9 – 286,000 viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 241,000 viewers for October.

Z Nation – The zombie series aired five more new episodes of its second season on Syfy during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 2 – 896,000 viewers
October 9 – 882,000 viewers
October 16 – 841,000 viewers
October 23 – 763,000 viewers
October 30 – 868,000 viewers

This averages out to 850,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Z Nation aired throughout November with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Friday, December 4 at 10 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

Continuum – The Syfy series aired its final three episodes of its fourth and final season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 2 – 331,000 viewers
October 9 – 374,000 viewers
October 16 – 347,000 viewers (Series Finale)

This averages out to 351,000 viewers for October.

The Knick – The Cinemax period piece returned for its second season starting on October 16, airing three new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 16 – 269,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 23 – 229,000 viewers
October 30 – 202,000 viewers

This average out to 233,000 viewers for October. New episodes of The Knick aired on Cinemax throughout November with the next new episode set to Friday, December 4 at 10 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

Satisfaction – The USA Network drama returned for its second season on October 16, airing three new episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 16 – 818,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 23 – 722,000 viewers
October 30 – 543,000 viewers

This average out to 694,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Satisfaction aired throughout November with the next new episodes set to the USA Network on Friday, December 4 at 10 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

SATURDAYS:

Doctor Who – The long-running series aired five more new episodes of its 9th season on BBC America during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 3 – 987,000 viewers
October 10 – 936,000 viewers
October 17 – 910,000 viewers
October 24 – 988,000 viewers
October 31 – 585,000 viewers

This average out to 881,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Doctor Who aired throughout November with the season finale set to air on BBC America on Saturday, December 5 at 9 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

Da Vinci’s Demons – The third and final season of the Starz period piece drama returned on October 24, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 24 – 238,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 31 – 250,000 viewers

This averages out to 244,000 viewers for October. New episodes of Da Vinci’s Demons aired throughout November with the next new episode set to air on Starz on Saturday, December 5 at 8 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

The Returned – The second season of the French original series aired on Sundance starting on October 31, earning 123,000 viewers. New episodes of The Returned aired on Sundance throughout November. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report. Check your local listings for the next new episode.

SUNDAYS:

The Strain – The FX thriller aired its season finale on October 4, earing 11.2 million viewers. The Strain has been renewed for a third season by FX, and it should return sometime in 2016.

Fear the Walking Dead – The AMC spin-off series aired its season finale on October 4, earning 6.9 million viewers. Fear the Walking Dead received a second season order by AMC and will return sometime in 2016.

The Leftovers – The HBO drama returned for its second season starting on October 4, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 4 – 713,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 11 – 552,000 viewers
October 18 – 777,000 viewers
October 24 – 519,000 viewers

This averages out to 640,000 viewers for October. New episodes of The Leftovers aired all through November with the season finale set to air on HBO on Sunday, December 6. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

Homeland – The Showtime drama returned for its 5th season on October 4, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 4 – 1.7 million (Season Premiere)
October 11 – 1.4 million
October 18 – 1.1 million
October 25 – 1.6 million

This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for October. New episodes of Homeland aired all throughout November with the next new episode set to air on Showtime on Sunday, December 6 at 9 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

The Affair – The Showtime drama also returned for its new season (its second) on October 4, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 4 – 815,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
October 11 – 547,000 viewers
October 18 – 648,000 viewers
October 25 – 869,000 viewers

This averages out to 720,000 viewers for October. New episodes of The Affair aired all through November with the next new episode set to air on Showtime on Sunday, December 6 at 10 PM. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.

The Walking Dead – The popular AMC zombie series returned for its sixth season on October 11, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

October 11 – 14.6 million (Season Premiere)
October 18 – 12.2 million
October 25 – 13.1 million

This averages out to 13.3 million viewers for October. New episodes of The Walking Dead aired all throughout November on AMC with the mid-season finale airing on November 29. The ratings for November will be in next month’s report.
