It is past time to go over the cable ratings the month of May so here are the ratings that could be tracked down for the cable series and the made-for-TV movies that aired last month.
Those ratings are all listed below:
CABLE SHOWS
MONDAYS:
The Secret Life of the American Teenager – The final five episodes of the series aired during May as well as the series finale that actually aired on June 3. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 6 – 886,000 viewers
May 13 – 886,000 viewers
May 20 – 988,000 viewers
May 27 – 847,000 viewers
June 3 – 1.5 million
This averages out to 1 million viewers for the month.
Bates Motel – The new A&E thriller aired its final three episodes of its debut season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 6 – 2.7 million
May 13 – 2.5 million
May 20 – 2.7 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 2.6 million viewers for May. Bates Motel has been renewed for a second season by A&E and is anticipated to be back sometime in 2014.
Defiance – The new Syfy series aired three more new episodes of its debut season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 6 – 2.1 million
May 13 – 1.9 million
May 20 – 1.9 million
May 27 – No episode aired because of the holiday
This averages out to 2 million viewers for the month. Defiance has aired two new episodes so far in June with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Monday, June 17 at 9 PM.
Warehouse 13 – The Syfy series aired three more new episodes of the fourth season of the popular series during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 6 – 1.3 million
May 13 – 1.3 million
May 20 – 1.1 million
May 27 – No episode aired because of the holiday
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for the month. Warehouse 13 has aired two new episodes so far in June with the next new episode set to air on Syfy on Monday, June 17 at 10 PM.
The Glades – The A&E cop drama returned for its fourth season on May 27, earning 3.3 million viewers for its season premiere. Two more new episodes have aired in June so far with the next new episode set to air on A&E on Monday, June 17 at 9 PM.
Longmire – The A&E drama returned for its second season on May 27, earning 4.3 million viewers for its season premiere. Two more new episodes have aired in June so far with the next new episode set to air on A&E on Monday, June 17 at 10 PM.
Rectify – The final four episodes of the Sundance Channel mini-series aired during May, but ratings could not be tracked down for any of these episodes.
TUESDAYS:
Hit the Floor – The first original scripted VH1 sports-themed drama debuted on May 28, earning 2.5 million viewers. Two more new episodes of the debut season of Hit the Floor have aired in June so far with the next new episode set to air on VH1 on Tuesday, June 18 at 9 PM.
The Haves and Have Nots – The new OWN scripted drama debuted for two hours on May 28, earning an average of 1.8 million viewers with two more new episodes of the debut season airing in June so far. The next new episode of The Haves and Have Nots will air on Tuesday, June 18 at 9 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
Psych – The long-running USA Network aired its finale five episodes of its current season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 1 – 2.4 million
May 8 – 2.3 million
May 15 – 2.3 million
May 22 – 2.5 million
May 29 – 1.9 million (Season Finale)
This averages out to 2.3 million viewers for the month. Psych has been renewed by the USA Network for a new season, but no return date has been announced yet.
Bomb Girls – The second and final season of the Canadian series aired its five remaining episodes on the Reelz Channel during May with its series finale actually airing on June 5, but ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down.
Rogue – The DirecTV cop series aired the final five episodes of is debut season during May, but ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down. A second season of Rogue was just announced, but no details have been provided as to when the show will return yet.
FRIDAYS:
Da Vinci’s Demons – The new Starz period piece aired its final five episodes during May along with the series finale on June 7. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 3 – 419,000 viewers
May 10 – 464,000 viewers
May 17 – 548,000 viewers
May 24 – No new episode aired
May 31 – 451,000 viewers
June 7 – 379,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 452,000 viewers for the month. Da Vinci’s Demons has been renewed for a second season, but it is unknown when that new season will air.
Merlin – The final five episodes of the popular Syfy series aired during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 3 – 1.4 million
May 10 – 1.2 million
May 17 – 1.3 million
May 24 – 1.4 million (Part 1 of the Series Finale)
May 31 – 1.4 million (Part 1 of the Series Finale)
This averages out to 1.3 million viewers for the month.
XIII: The Series – The second season of the Canadian series aired five new episodes on Reelz Channel, but ratings for that episode could not be tracked down. Two new episodes have aired so far in June with the finale set to air on Friday, June 21 at 10 PM.
SATURDAYS:
Doctor Who – Since the return of the final episodes of the current season of Doctor Who on BBC America on March 30, only the ratings for March 30 and April 6 could be tracked down. That is until now, as I was actually able to find the ratings for the episodes from April 13 through to the final episode on May 18. The following are the ratings for those episodes:
April 13 – 970,000 viewers
April 20 – 1 million
April 27 – 1.1 million
May 4 – 840,000 viewers
May 11 – No ratings could be found
May 18 – 1.3 million (Final Episode)
That averages out to approximately 1 million viewers. The 50th Anniversary special episode of Doctor Who will air in November followed by the Christmas episode that will air, of course, in December.
Orphan Black – Since the debut of Orphan Black on BBC America on March 30, ratings for the series premiere were the only ratings that could be tracked down, until now. As of now though, I was actually able to find the ratings for the episodes from April 6 through to the season finale on June 1. The following are the ratings for those episodes:
April 6 – 340,000 viewers
April 13 – 400,000 viewers
April 20 – 360,000 viewers
April 27 – 320,000 viewers
May 4 – 340,000 viewers
May 11 – No ratings could be found
May 18 – 360,000 viewers
May 25 – 250,000 viewers
June 1 – 370,000 viewers (Season Finale)
That averages out to approximately 343,000 viewers. Orphan Black has been renewed for a second season, but there are no details about when the show will return to BBC America.
SUNDAYS:
Army Wives – The long-running Lifetime military drama aired three more new episodes of its current season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 5 – 2.7 million
May 12 – 2.3 million
May 19 – 2.6 million
May 26 – No episode aired due to the holiday
This averages out to 2.5 million viewers for the month. The final two episodes of the current (possibly final) season of Army Wives aired on Lifetime in June. All ratings for June episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
The Client List – The Lifetime drama aired three more new episodes of its current season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 5 – 2.1 million
May 12 – 1.8 million
May 19 – 2.1 million
May 26 – No episode aired due to the holiday
This averages out to 2 million viewers for the month. Two new episodes of The Client List aired on Lifetime during June so far with the final two episodes set to air tonight, June 16 at 9 and 10 PM. All ratings for June episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
Game of Thrones – The HBO costume drama aired three more new episodes of its current season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:

This averages out to 5.1 million viewers for the month. The final two episodes of Game of Thrones aired on HBO in June and those ratings will be featured in next month’s report.
Mad Men – The critically acclaimed AMC drama aired four more new episodes of its current season during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 5 – 2.5 million
May 12 – 2.4 million
May 19 – 2.2 million
May 26 – 1.9 million
This averages out to 2.3 million viewers for the month. Two new episodes of Mad Men have aired on AMC so far in June with the next new episode set to air tonight, June 16 at 10 PM. All ratings for June episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
The Borgias – The period piece drama from Showtime aired four more new episodes during May. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
May 5 – 674,000 viewers
May 12 – 749,000 viewers
May 19 – 663,000 viewers
May 26 – 421,000 viewers
This averages out to 627,000 viewers for the month. Two new episodes of The Borgias have aired on Showtime so far in June with the series finale set to air on tonight, June 16 at 10 PM. All ratings for June episodes will be featured in next month’s report.
Call the Midwife – The remaining episodes of PBS mini-series aired during May, but the ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down. Call the Midwife will return to PBS for a third season at an as-yet-undisclosed date.
Mr. Selfridge – The remaining episodes of the PBS mini-series aired during May, but the ratings for those episodes could not be tracked down.
The Bletchley Circle – The final two parts of the 4-part mystery PBS mini-series aired during May, but ratings could not be tracked down for any of those episodes.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES
There were just a little over a handful of made-for-TV movies that aired during May. I have grouped them together by network (where possible) below:
The Hallmark movies that aired included the following:
Beverly Lewis’ The Confession – 1.5 million
Mr. Hockey – 706,000 viewers
Space Warriors – 479,000 viewers
The Lifetime movies that aired included the following:
Ring of Fire – 2.1 Million
Dangerous Intuition – 1.2 million
And, the HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra aired during May, earning 2.4 million viewers.
Ratings results for the cable series and the made-for-TV movies that are set to air in June that can be tracked down will be provided as soon as possible in July.
