It’s that time again, to take a look at how the cable dramas and made-for-TV movies that aired in March fared in the ratings.
First, let’s take a look at the ratings for the dramas:
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
Snowpiercer – The TNT sci-fi series aired the final 5 episodes of its second season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 1 – 905,000 viewers
March 8 – 827,000 viewers
March 15 – 891,000 viewers
March 22 – No Episode Aired
March 29 – 866,000 viewers (Hour 1 of Season Finale)
March 29 – 816,000 viewers (Hour 2 of Season Finale)
This averages out to 861,000 viewers for March. Snowpiercer was renewed by TNT for a third season shortly before the second season got started in January this year.
TUESDAYS:
Queen Sugar – The OWN drama aired five new episodes from its 5th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 2 – 680,000 viewers
March 9 – 615,000 viewers
March 16 – 560,000 viewers
March 23 – 630,000 viewers
March 30 – 599,000 viewers
This averages out to 617,000 viewers for March. The next new episode of Queen Sugar is set to air on OWN on Tuesday, April 6 at 8 PM.
Delilah – The new OWN drama debuted on March 9, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 9 – 387,000 viewers (DEBUT)
March 16 – 316,000 viewers
March 23 – 297,000 viewers
March 30 – No episode aired
This averages out to 333,000 for March. The next new episode of Delilah is set to air on OWN on Tuesday, April 6 at 9 PM.
Mayans M.C. – The Sons of Anarchy spin-off (so to speak) returned for the start of its third season on March 16, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 16 – 840,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
March 23 – 843,000 viewers
March 30 – 712,000 viewers
This averages out to 798,000 for March. The next new episode of Mayans M.C. is set to air on FX on Tuesday, April 6 at 10 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
Resident Alien – The debut season of the Alan Tudyk-led alien series aired the final five episodes on Syfy during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 3 – 1.2 million viewers
March 10 – 1.1 million viewers
March 17 – 1.3 million viewers
March 24 – 1.2 million viewers
March 31 – 1.1 million viewers
This averages out to 1.2 million viewers for March. Resident Alien has been renewed for a second season by Syfy.
Good Trouble – The Freeform drama actually returned for the start of its third season on February 17, airing two episodes last month and five episodes during March. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
February 17 – 172,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
February 24 – 192,000 viewers
March 3 – 220,000 viewers
March 10 – 147,000 viewers
March 17 – 171,000 viewers
March 24 – 179,000 viewers
March 31 – 183,000 viewers
This averages out to 180,000 viewers for March. The next new episode of Good Trouble is set to air on Freeform on Wednesday, April 7 at 10 PM.
THURSDAYS:
There were no cable dramas airing on Thursday night during February.
FRIDAYS:
Wynonna Earp – The fan favorite Syfy horror series returned for the last half of its 4th and final season on March 5, airing four new episodes. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 5 – 338,000 viewers (Return)
March 12 – 276,000 viewers
March 19 – 326,000 viewers
March 26 – 296,000 viewers
This averages out to 309000 viewers for March. The penultimate episode of Wynonna Earp is set to air on Syfy on Friday, April 2 at 10 PM.
SATURDAYS:
There were no cable dramas airing on Saturday night during February.
SUNDAYS:
American Gods – The Starz fantasy series aired the final three episodes of its third season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 7 – 110,000 viewers
March 14 – 153,000 viewers
March 31 – 182,000 viewers (Series Finale)
This averages out to 148,000 for March. Starz cancelled American Gods not that long after the final episode of the third season aired.
The Luminaries – The Australian limited series aired the final three episodes on Starz during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 7 – 86,000 viewers
March 14 – 88,000 viewers
March 21 – No Episode Aired
March 28 – 63,000 viewers (Series Finale)
This averages out to 79,000 viewers for March. There are no plans for any further seasons of The Luminaries.
When Calls the Heart – The Hallmark Channel drama aired four new episodes from its 8th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 7 – 2.2 million viewers
March 14 – 2.4 million viewers
March 21 – 2.2 million viewers
March 28 – 2.3 million viewers
This averages out to 2.3 million viewers for March. The next new episode of When Calls the Heart set to air on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, April 4 at 9 PM.
The Walking Dead – The long-running zombiefest series aired four new episodes from its extended six episode order for its current 10th season during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 7 – 2.3 million viewers
March 14 – 2.2 million viewers
March 21 – 2.1 million viewers
March 28 – 1.9 million viewers
This averages out to 2.1 million viewers for March. The season finale of The Walking Dead is set to air on AMC tomorrow, Sunday, April 4 at 9 PM. The ratings for that episode will be included in next month’s report.
City of a Hill – The Showtime drama now set in Boston in 1993 returned for its second season starting on March 28, earning 372,000 viewers. The next new episode of City on a Hill is set to air on Showtime on Sunday, April 4 at 10 PM.
The Gloaming – The Australian cop drama/limited series debuted here in the States on Starz starting on March 21, airing two episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
March 21 – 137,000 viewers (DEBUT)
March 28 – 76,000 viewers
This averages out to 107,000 viewers for March. The next new episode of The Gloaming will air on Starz on Sunday, April 4 at 8 PM.
Pennyworth – The period piece drama from EPIX focusing on Alfred Pennyworth returned for the last half of its 2nd season on March 7, airing four new episodes during March, but no ratings could be tracked down. A new episode of Pennyworth is set to air on EPIX on Sunday, April 4 at 8 PM.
Condor – The drama series that was exclusively aired for DirecTV subscribers got its network debut on EPIX starting on March 7, airing four new episodes during March, but no ratings could be tracked down. A new episode of Condor is set to air on EPIX on Sunday, April 4 at 9 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND ANTHOLOGY SERIES
National Geographic introduced the third season of the anthology series Genius, focusing this time on Aretha Franklin. Here are the ratings for the 8-part mini-series Genius: Aretha:
March 21 (Hour 1) – 1.4 million viewers (DEBUT)
March 21 (Hour 2) – 1.4 million viewers
March 22 (Hour 1) – 1.1 million viewers
March 22 (Hour 2) – 1.1 million viewers
March 23 (Hour 1) – 984,000 viewers
March 23 (Hour 2) – 1 million viewers
March 24 (Hour 1) – 934,000 viewers
March 24 (Hour 2) – 1 million viewers (Finale)
This averages out to 1.1 million viewers for the series run. The Genius anthology series was renewed for a 4th season that will follow the life of Martin Luther King Jr. This time around the series will be released on Disney+.

VC Andrews’ Ruby (Lifetime) – 712,000 viewers
VC Andrews’ Hidden Jewel (Lifetime) – 660,000 viewers
VC Andrews’ Pearl in the Mist (Lifetime) – 649,000 viewers
The Charm of Love (UPtv) – 172,000 viewers
