TV ratings are the life’s blood of every series on the major and cable networks. The success or failure of every show is at the mercy of their ratings. As has been the case for FAR too long, the networks put far too much value on the viewing habits of 18-39 year olds, basically ignoring anyone over the age of 40 – and especially overlooking senior viewers, who are the driving force of the buying market, but heaven forbid that those of us older viewers are even considered important when the focus is always on the young.

As has been my preference for a VERY long time, it is my mission for years to focus only on the overall viewership (the millions of viewers who watched each show) of the major and cable network dramas.

The final analyses of all these ratings for both the major and cable networks for the entire year are as follows:

1. For the past decade NCIS has been the number one show on TV not just the highest rated series on CBS. CBS still stands as the highest rated network with the most dramas in the top 20. The top new drama is All Rise while the lowest rated CBS dramas for this whole year were Ransom and Elementary.

2. The dramas The Good Doctor and Grey’s Anatomy tied for the top two dramas on ABC this season. Just like last year, the lowest rated dramas for the network were Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and How to Get Away with Murder.

3. Just like last year, 9-1-1 was the highest rated drama on FOX while The Gifted, Proven Innocent and Almost Family are the lowest rated dramas on the network.

4. Chicago Med is now the highest rated drama on NBC, taking the title away from This Is Us with Chicago Fire a VERY close second. The lowest rated dramas on the network were Good Girls and The InBetween.

5. The Flash is the top rated drama on The CW with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Burden of Truth being the lowest rated dramas on the network.

6. Game of Thrones was easily the highest rated cable drama for the entire year with Flack on POP and The Name of the Rose on Sundance TV being the lowest rated cable dramas.
