Comic Con 2019: Day Two (Part 1)

Day two of San Diego Comic Con 2019 was jam-packed with LOTS and LOTS of TV show panels and so much more.

Let’s take a look at just some of the TV shows that were on tap today. [There will be more coverage on day two of Comic Con sometime tomorrow.]

Veronica Mars (Hulu)

Hulu has made season 4 available NOW rather than on July 26 as originally planned. You can now binge-watch all 8 episodes. What are you waiting for?!! Seriously, get over to Hulu and watch.

Best of all, our very own Roz dedicated a lot of her day today to the show, getting a chance to pose for quick selfies with some of the cast. Check out her great photos below:

Also, Kristen Bell got to meet Lin-Manuel Miranda – Hamilton himself – for the first time EVER – and it was swoon worthy.

Entertainment Weekly’s Brave Warriors

On the panel this year were actors John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Cameron Cuffe (Krypton), Michael Emerson (soon to be seen in CBS’s Evil), Aiden Gillen (Project Blue Book and formerly of Game of Thrones), Cress Williams (Black Lightning) and William Zabka (Cobra Kai).

The Witcher (Netflix)

Henry Cavill shared during the panel that he “is a big gamer. I’ve played the games a lot. There was something about Geralt that struck a chord with me.” He also shared that he did his own stunts. “It’s very important for me that you know it’s Geralt and it’s not some guy doing Geralt’s stuff but it’s me in there.”

In fact, he learned how to wield two swords – one silver for monsters and one steel for people. And, there is some speculation that perhaps The Witcher just MIGHT take over the mantel of Game of Thrones.

In short the series is about the witcher, Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people prove more wicked than beasts.

The Boys has been given a second season renewal by the streaming service a week in advance of its debut.

CONAN O’BRIEN

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Norman Reedus (Negan and Daryl of The Walking Dead) also appeared on Conan yesterday – it wasn’t just Tom Cruise – pretending to be two 16-year-old girls who are cosplayers.

OTHER TIDBITS

It should also be noted that there will be TWO more Halloween movies, they will be sequels to the 2018 Halloween movie. It was stated by Blumhouse, “the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn’t over.”

One of my fellow NiceGirls TV staff, Lisa, had the chance to not only meet Orlando Jones (American God and Sleepy Hollow) – you can see the picture below – but she also got to sing with him on the karaoke bus that was winding its way around San Diego during the con. I hope to have video of that soon.

Comic Con 2019: Day One

It was a BIG day at San Diego Comic Con today with not only Tom Cruise showing up at Conan O’Brien’s special taping along with the first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick but Arnold himself showed up for the big Hall H Terminator Dark Fate panel.

As for the Tom Cruise appearance on Conan, NiceGirl Lisa was at the taping, and let’s just say it was a BIG surprise to everyone that the special guest was Mr. Cruise himself. And, he also crashed the Terminator Dark Fate panel to show off the trailer for Top Gun: Maverick.

As for Terminator Dark Fate news, James Cameron wasn’t in attendance at the panel, but he livestreamed a message form the set of Avatar and the news dropped that Judgment Day’s Edward Furlong will be in the movie, reprising the role of John Connor. Did anyone see THAT coming?!

As everyone recalls, Linda Hamilton got herself into peek physical condition for Judgment Day, but this time around her preparations were “more internal. The hard work I did was the deep exploration of a woman who’s an outsider whose life hasn’t worked out. Comic Con 2019: Follow Up to Preview Night

Two of the advanced screeners that aired last night at San Diego Comic Con during Preview Night included FOX’s upcoming psychological drama Prodigal Son and the latest DC Universe series Batwoman.

Here is the synopsis of Prodigal Son:

Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne from The Walking Dead) is a gifted criminal psychologist, using his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother (Bellamy Young from Scandal), a serial killer father (the one and only Michael Sheen) still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses. Bright’s only ally is his sister, Ainsley (Halston Sage from The Orville), a TV journalist who wishes her brother would take a break from murder and have a normal life. Unfortunately for his sister, the only way Bright feels normal is by solving cases with the help of his longtime mentor, NYPD Detective Gil Arroyo (Lou Diamond Phillips). Arroyo’s one of the best detectives around, and he expects no less from his team, which includes Detective JT Tarmel (Frank Harts from The Path), a born-and-bred New Yorker who questions whether Bright is a psychopath himself.

Prodigal Son is set to debut on FOX on September 23, 2019.

Special correspondent NiceGirl Lisa provided us with this review:

I missed the first 15 minutes of The Prodigal Son pilot, but from what I saw it was a strong pilot. Michael Sheen gives an incredible performance in the episode. Lou Diamond Phillips also shines. It gave me Lucifer vibe a little bit, but I think it’s a strong pilot and will be a good show.

Here is the synopsis of Batwoman:

Three years after Batman mysteriously disappeared, Gotham is a city in despair, and it’s under the watch of Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) and his military-grade Crows Private Security, which now protects the city with omnipresent firepower and militia. When the Alice in Wonderland gang targets the firm, Kane’s daughter Kate (Ruby Rose from Orange Is the New Black) returns home, deciding that if she wants to help her family and her city, she’ll have to become the one thing her father loathes — a dark knight vigilante. Batwoman will debut on The CW on October 6, 2019

Again, special correspondent NiceGirl Lisa provided us with this review:

Batwoman was really good. I am a huge fan of Ruby Rose, and she did a great job of carrying the pilot as well as stepping into the Batwoman character. It was really interesting to see the background of how she becomes Batwoman, why she becomes Batwoman and those questions are answered in the pilot. I also liked that they touched on homosexual issues because she is a lesbian, and I really liked that they have that aspect on the show. The cast is diverse and great support system for Ruby Rose to shine.

New Show Introduction: Pearson

The debut of the new drama – and Suits spin-off – Pearson will air on July 17 on the USA Network at 10 PM.

The Suits spin-off series centers on the world of recently disbarred NYC powerhouse lawyer Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) as she adjusts to down and dirty Chicago politics. Newly appointed as Chicago Mayor Bobby Novak’s (Morgan Spector from Homeland and The Mist TV series) right hand fixer, Jessica is quickly embroiled in a crooked and dangerous new world where every action has far-reaching consequences. With her compulsion to win, Jessica is forced to reconcile her unstoppable drive with her desire to do the right thing – two things very much at odds.

The cast includes Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill), Chantel Riley (Wynonna Earp and Frankie Drake Mysteries), Eli Goree (Riverdale and Dead of Summer), Simon Kassianides (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Isabel Arraiza (The Oath).

New Show Introduction: Pandora

On July 16, the new drama Pandora will debut on The CW at 8 PM.

This sci-fi action series is set in the year 2199, centering on a resourceful young woman who has lost everything but finds a new life at Earth’s Space Training Academy where she and her friends learn to defend the Galaxy from threats, both alien and human. When secrets about the nature of her own identity begin to surface, she must uncover the truth, and whether she will be humanity’s savior or the instrument of its destruction.

Pitted against rival gangs and a deadly ring of corrupt cops, the unlikely duo find a way to survive together in the fight of their lives.

To get a promotion, Hayley (Lily Anne Harrison, daughter of veteran actor Gregory Harrison), an advertising executive who specializes in social media, must land a toy company that is all about traditional Christmas as an account.

Movie of the Week Recommendation: A Very Country Wedding

The UP TV original movie A Very Country Wedding will debut on July 6 at 7 PM.

Based on a Harlequin novel, country singer Zane (Greyston Holt from Bitten) and fiancée Jeannette’s (Bea Santos from Murdock Mysteries) wedding is interrupted by the last leg of a contractually obligated tour, leading them on a roundabout journey back to one another.

After a video of Zane saving a female fan goes viral, Zane finally becomes the country music superstar he’s always dreamed of being. Jeannette is happy and supportive, but after he misses their new wedding date, she begins to worry his dreams may no longer have room for her.

The cast includes country singer Deana Carter.
