Here are the entertainment news items for this past week:

FINALLY THERE’S AN AGREEMENT

The SAG-AFTRA strike has finally come to an end with the national board approving the new contract with the AMPTP (aka the studios) with an 86% approval vote as of Friday.

NEW SERIES

The Dead Boy Detectives, which was originally set up at Max, will now officially air on Netflix. The series is based on character created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The official description for the 8-episode series is: Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. Meet Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), ‘the brains’ and ‘the brawn’ behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases. (Variety)

CASTING NEWS

Bridgerton’s own Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington SPOILER ALERT aka Lady Whistledown will be making a guest appearance in the new season of Doctor Who in 2024 when Ncuti Gatwa takes over the legendary role. (Variety)

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

Looks like Nintendo is developing a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda, but plot and casting details are being kept under wraps. The video game, on which the film will be based, follows the elf-like warrior Link, who sets out to defeat the evil Ganon and rescue Zelda, the princess of Hyrule. (Variety)

SERIES ORDER

The world of Spartacus is expanding at Starz with the 10-episode series Spartacus: House of Ashur, which will find actor Nick Tarabay reprising his role of Ashur, the villanous character he played in the original series, which ran from 2010 to 2013. The series is being described as a history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. (TV Line)

CANCELLATIONS

ABC has pulled the plug on the spin-off series The Rookie: Feds after only one season and the network is also not moving forward with The Good Lawyer, the proposed spin-off series from The Good Doctor. (TV Line)

The Sundance Now series The Long Shadow will debut online on November 16.

This true crime drama takes viewers back to the 1970s and 1980s, following the victims and survivors of the infamous serial killer, the Yorkshire Ripper, aka Peter Sutcliffe. It starts when mother of four, Wilma McCann, is found murdered near her home in October 1975 and a desperate cat and mouse game ensues.

The series stars David Morrissey and Toby Jones.

On November 16, the Netflix movie Best.Christmas.Ever! will debut online.

The movie follows two longtime frenemies who are reunited over the holidays in a twist of fate. Every Christmas, Jackie (Brandy) sends a boastful holiday newsletter that makes her old college friend Charlotte (Heather Graham) feel like a lump of coal. But when Charlotte lands on Jackie’s snowy doorstep just days before Christmas, she seizes the opportunity to prove her old friend’s life can’t possibly be that perfect.

The cast includes Jason Biggs and Matt Cedeno.

The BET+ movie Sworn Justice: Taken Before Christmas will debut online on November 16.

A detective and her DA boyfriend are both informed that the other has been kidnapped. Ahead of the holiday, they are locked out of their computers and phones and must follow the demands of a menacing voice giving them orders.

The movie stars Mishael Morgan, Leland B. Martin, Zak Santiago, Benz Antoine and Vivica A. Fox.

On November 16, the holiday movie A World Record Christmas will debut online on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries at 8 PM.

Charlie (Aias Dalman) is an autistic boy determined to set a Guinness World Record by stacking 1400 Jenga blocks. His mother Marissa (Nikki DeLoach) and stepfather Eric (Lucas Bryant) encourage him to reach for his dream and they all celebrate when he gets the good news that he’ll have his chance on Christmas Eve. In the spirit of the holiday, they organize a fundraiser giving the townspeople an opportunity to donate and decorate a Jenga block, with the proceeds going to benefit kids with autism. Charlie’s journey to setting the Jenga world record gives them all the chance to learn more not just about themselves, but about what family really means.

On November 14, the new series A Murder at the End of the World will debut its first two episodes online on FX on Hulu.

This mystery series finds a Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker named Darby Hart (Emma Corrin), along with eight other guests, invited by a reclusive billionaire (Clive Owen) to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must use all of her skills to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life.

The cast includes Alice Braga, Brit Marling and Joan Chen [among others].

On November 14, the Australian spin-off series NCIS: Sydney will debut on CBS at 8 PM.

With rising international tensions in the Indo-Pacific, a brilliant and eclectic team of U.S. NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) are grafted into a multinational taskforce to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet.

The cast includes Olivia Swann, Todd Lasance, Tuuli Narkle, Sean Sagar, Mavournee Hazel and William McInnes.
