The new drama The Gold, which debuted on Paramount+ in 2023, will make its linear TV debut on PBS at 10 PM on October 5.

This period piece, set in 1983, is inspired by one of the largest robberies in British history: the Brink’s-Mat robbery. On November 26, 1983, six armed men broke into the Brink’s-Mat security depot near London’s Heathrow Airport and inadvertently stumbled across gold bullion worth £26m — the disposal of which led to a vast international money laundering operation and left controversy and murder in its wake.

The cast includes Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Dominic Cooper (Agent Carter and Captain America: The First Avenger) and Tom Cullen (Becoming Elizabeth) [among others].

On October 5, the new drama Maigret debut on PBS at 9 PM.

This series will be the first contemporary TV adaptation of Georges Simenon’s beloved novels that focuses on the streetwise Parisian Chief Inspector Jules Maigret (Benjamin Wainwright from Belgravia: The Next Chapter), who heads the elite police unit known as La Crim, responsible for investigating all serious crime in and around Paris.

A school bus driver (Matthew McConaughey) has to navigate a bus carrying children and their teacher (America Ferrera) to safety through the 2018 Camp Fire, the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history.

Canon Daniel Clement (Harry Potter’s Matthew Lewis), a rector, finds himself entangled in a murder investigation after a cousin of the church’s patron is discovered with a fatal stab wound inflicted by secateurs, leading him to unravel the mystery.

The Hulu comedy Chad Powers will debut online on September 30. A disgraced college quarterback named Russ Holliday (Glen Powell) disguises himself as Chad Powers and walks onto a struggling southern football team to revive his football career. The series also stars Steve Zahn, Wynn Everett, Perry Mattfield, Toby Huss and Clayne Crawford.

On October 1, the finale of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox will air online on Hulu; while that same night, the season premieres of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. will all air on NBC at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively.

On October 5, the CBS special A Grammy Salute to Cyndi Lauper: Live From the Hollywood Bowl at 8 PM. The concert will capture the essence of Lauper’s farewell tour, celebrating her extensive career and her contributions to music. The special will feature special guests and performances by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Cher, John Legend, SZA, Mickey Guyton and Brandi Carlile (among others).

TV CASTING NEWS

Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who played father and son Davis and Reid Collins, in season 1 of Ransom Canyon will not be returning for the show’s upcoming second season. (Deadline)

Hallmark hunk Kristoffer Polaha has joined the cast of the upcoming MGM+ series American Hostage that will star Jon Hamm and Giovanni Ribisi. The show is a psychological thriller whose ’70s-set first season tells the harrowing true story of Fred Heckman (Hamm), a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program. Polaha will star as Dick Hall, the president of Meridian Mortgage who is taken hostage by Tony Kiritsis (Ribisi), who publicly accuses him of being a greedy and cutthroat monster. But the real human being is more complicated than that. (Deadline)

SERIES ORDER NEWS

FOX has given a 12-episode straight-to-series order for a reboot to Baywatch for the 2026-2027 season. The new version will remain Southern California, featuring adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original. (Deadline)

BOX OFFICE CASTING NEWS

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown will star as Olympic champion gymnast Kerri Strug in the upcoming box office film Perfect tha will be directed by Gia Coppola. Strug was a member of the 1996 USA gymnastics team dubbed “the Magnificent Seven.” (Deadline)

The classic 1987 sci-fi parody Spaceballs is getting a sequel, and Rick Moranis is coming out of retirement to reprise his role of Lord Dark Helmet alongside Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Mel Brooks as the Yoda-esque being Yogurt, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa and George Wyner as Colonel Sandurz.
