Summer came to an end and fall TV got underway with plenty of dramas coming to a close, some new dramas debuting and other dramas returning for new seasons. And, of course, there are all the made-for-TV movies that aired.
And, best of all, my ratings source – ShowBuzzDaily – has thankfully been able to get back up and running so while they won’t be provided ratings results as quickly as they did in the past, they will be providing the results so that makes me very happy.
But enough about that…let’s take a look at the ratings for the dramas for the August and September:
CABLE DRAMAS
MONDAYS:
The Beast Must Die – The new revenge drama on AMC aired the final three episodes during August. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 2 – 159,000 viewers
August 9 – 214,000 viewers
August 16 – 159,000 viewers
This averages out to 177,000 viewers for August. This limited series was only 6 episodes long, and AMC has no plans to continue the series.
Titans – The DC series aired four episodes from its first season during August and the remaining three episodes during September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 2 – 442,000 viewers
August 9 – 318,000 viewers
August 16 – 331,000 viewers
August 30 – 370,000 viewers
September 6 – 454,000 viewers
September 13 – 277,000 viewers
September 20 -265,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 351,000 viewers for that time frame. TNT has yet to announce if it will air the second season of Titans, which aired on HBO Max from September to November of 2019.
TUESDAYS:
Motherland: Fort Salem – The fantasy series aired the final four episodes from its second season during August. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 3 – 210,000 viewers
August 10 – 211,000 viewers
August 17 – 161,000 viewers
August 24 – 145,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 182,000 viewers for that timeframe. Motherland: Fort Salem has been renewed by Freeform for a third season, which is anticipated to air sometime in 2022.
The Oval – The Tyler Perry drama aired the final 7 episodes from its second season between August and September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 3 – 735,000 viewers
August 10 – 963,000 viewers
August 17 – 885,000 viewers
August 24 – 915,000 viewers
August 31 – 883,000 viewers
September 7 – 920,000 viewers
September 14 – 961,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 895,000 viewers for that time frame. The Oval will be back with its third season on BET starting on October 12.
Queen Sugar – The OWN drama returned for the start of its 6th season on September 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 661,000 viewers (Season Premiere)
September 14 – 563,000 viewers
September 21 – 582,000 viewers
September 28 – 558,000 viewers
This averages out to 591,000 for September. A new episode aired on October 5 with the next new episode of Queen Sugar expected to air on OWN on Tuesday, October 12 at 8 PM.
American Crime Story: Impeachment – The anthology series debuted its new version, focusing on the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal, on FX starting on September 7, airing four episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 7 – 916,000 viewers (DEBUT)
September 14 – 690,000 viewers
September 21 – 657,000 viewers
September 28 – 601,000 viewers
This averages out to 716,000 for September. A new episode aired on October 5 with the next new episode of American Crime Story: Impeachment expected to air on FX on Tuesday, October 12 at 10 PM.
WEDNESDAYS:
Good Trouble – The Freeform drama aired the final six episodes from its third season during August and September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 4 – 116,000 viewers
August 11 – 143,000 viewers
August 18 – 213,000 viewers
August 25 – 172,000 viewers
September 1 – 115,000 viewers
September 8 – 234,000 viewers (90-Minute Season Finale)
This averages out to 166,000 viewers for that time frame. Good Trouble will return for a fourth season on Freeform at some point in 2022.
Younger – The half-hour dramedy aired the final seven episodes of its 7th and final season during August and September on TV Land. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 4 – 251,000 viewers
August 11 – 271,000 viewers
August 18 – 307,000 viewers
August 25 – 306,000 viewers
September 1 – 306,000 viewers
September 8 – 314,000 viewers
September 15 – 236,000 viewers (One-Hour Series Finale)
This averages out to 284,000 viewers for that time frame.
American Horror Story: Double Feature – The anthology series debuted its 10th version on FX starting on August 25 with back-to-back episodes along with five new episodes during September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 25 – 925,000 viewers (Hour One DEBUT)
August 25 – 581,000 viewers (Hour Two DEBUT)
September 1 – 697,000 viewers
September 8 – 610,000 viewers
September 15 – 642,000 viewers
September 22 – 732,000 viewers
September 29 – 687,000 viewers
This averages out to 696,000 viewers for that time frame. A new episode aired on October 6 with the next new episode of American Horror Story: Double Feature set to air on FX at 10 PM on Wednesday, October 13.
THURSDAYS:
Heartland – The long-running Canadian family drama aired the final six episodes from its 14th seasons on UPtv throughout August and September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 5 – 182,000 viewers
August 12 – 236,000 viewers
August 19 – 217,000 viewers
August 26 – No numbers could be tracked down
September 2 – No numbers could be tracked down
September 9 – No numbers could be tracked (Season Finale)
This averages out to approximately 212,000 viewers for that time frame. There is no word whether UPtv will air the next season of Heartland or not.
Four of the final eight episodes of the third and final season of 800 Words aired on UPtv from September 9 and September 30, but no numbers could be tracked down.
FRIDAYS:
SurrealEstate – The new Syfy thriller aired the final seven episodes from its debut season during August and September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 6 – 322,000 viewers
August 13 – 255,000 viewers
August 20 – 341,000 viewers
August 27 – 279,000 viewers
September 3 – 251,000 viewers
September 10 – 277,000 viewers
September 17 – 350,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 296,000 viewers for that time frame. Syfy has yet to announce if SurrealEstate will be back for a second season.
SATURDAYS:
There were no cable dramas airing on Saturday nights during August or September.
SUNDAYS:
A Discovery of Witches – The third season of the British fantasy series aired its final four episodes during August. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 1 – 365,000 viewers
August 8 – 386,000 viewers
August 15 – 168,000 viewers (Two-Hour Finale)
This averages out to 229,000 for August. There will be a season three of A Discovery of Witches, but there is no return date set yet by AMC.
Animal Kingdom – The TNT drama aired five new episodes in August, four new episodes in September and its season finale from its fifth season on October 3. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 1 – 996,000 viewers
August 8 – 948,000 viewers
August 15 – 888,000 viewers
August 22 – 933,000 viewers
August 29 – 830,000 viewers
September 5 – 939,000 viewers
September 12 – 875,000 viewers
September 22 – 853,000 viewers
September 29 – 745,000 viewers
October 3 – 679,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 869,000 viewers for that time frame. Animal Kingdom will return for a sixth season on TNT sometime in 2022.
The White Lotus – The HBO limited series aired the final three episodes from its debut season during August. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 1 – 515,000 viewers
August 8 – 541,000 viewers
August 15 – 850,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 635,000 viewers for August. HBO had planned for The White Lotus to only be one season, but the series ended up getting a second season. It will be back at some point in 2022.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan – The next spin-off of the Starz drama Power aired the remaining 8 episodes of its debut season during August and September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 1 – 307,000 viewers
August 8 – 378,000 viewers
August 15 – 386,000 viewers
August 22 – No episode aired
August 29 – 348,000 viewers
September 5 – 270,000 viewers
September 12 – 418,000 viewers
September 19 – 486,000 viewers
September 26 – 458,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 381,000 for that time frame. Power III: Raising Kanan was renewed for a second season by Starz before it debuted in July.
Chesapeake Shores – The Hallmark Channel family drama returned for the start of its fifth season on August 15, airing three episodes during the month along with four episodes during September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 15 – 1.5 million viewers (Season Premiere)
August 22 – 1.3 million viewers
August 29 – 1.5 million viewers
September 5 – 1.5 million viewers
September 12 – 1.5 million viewers
September 19 – 1.6 million viewers
September 26 – 1.5 million viewers
This averages out to 1.5 million viewers for that time frame. A new episode aired on October 3 with the next new episode of Chesapeake Shores set to air on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, October 10 at 8 PM.
The Walking Dead – The 11th and final season of The Walking Dead got started on AMC on August 22, airing two episodes during the month along with four episodes airing in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 22 – 2.2 million viewers (Season Premiere)
August 29 – 2 million viewers
September 5 – 1.9 million viewers
September 12 – 1.9 million viewers
September 19 – 1.9 million viewers
September 26 – 1.8 million viewers
This averages out to 2 million viewers for that time frame. A new episode aired on October 3 with the fall finale (the final season is being divided into three parts) of The Walking Dead set to air on AMC on Sunday, October 10 at 9 PM.
Heels – The Starz wrestling drama debuted on August 15, airing three episodes during the month along with three episodes in September. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
August 15 – 128,000 viewers (DEBUT)
August 22 – 103,000 viewers
August 29 – 94,000 viewers
September 5 – 79,000 viewers
September 12 – 79,000 viewers
September 19 – 93,000 viewers
This averages out to 96,000 viewers for that time frame. A new episode aired on October 3 with the season finale of Heels set to air on Starz on Sunday, October 10 at 9 PM.
Billions – The Showtime drama returned for the final five episodes of its fifth season starting on September 5 with the season finale airing on October 3. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 5 – 192,000 viewers (Return)
September 12 – 392,000 viewers
September 19 – 318,000 viewers
September 26 – 331,000 viewers
October 3 – 394,000 viewers (Season Finale)
This averages out to 325,000 viewers for that time frame. Billions will return for its sixth season starting on January 23 on Showtime.
American Rust – The new Showtime drama, starring Jeff Daniels, debuted on September 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
September 12 – 264,000 viewers (DEBUT)
September 19 – 244,000 viewers
September 26 – 237,000 viewers
This averages out to 248,000 viewers for the month. A new episode aired on October 3 with the next new episode of American Rust set to air on Showtime on Sunday, October 10 at 10 PM.
Scenes From A Marriage – The 5-episode limited series, starring Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, debuted on September 12, airing three episodes during the month. The ratings for those episodes are as follows:
