Are you a Browncoat?
If you know what that word means, then you are a fan of the short-lived, Joss Whedon created series Firefly, which eventually spawned the theatrical release Serenity.
A Browncoat was the nickname for the “soldiers” who fought on the side of the Independent Faction in the fictionalized war between the inhabitants of the Outer Planets and the Alliance, the trained fighters from within the colonized planets in the world depicted in the Firefly TV series. The Independents wore simple, brown dusters as their uniforms in comparison to the purple-tinted body armor worn by the members of the Alliance.
In a show of support, the fans of the series took on the moniker of Browncoats to declare their dedication and allegiance to all things Firefly. With that devotion firmly implanted, a group of fans, with the blessing of Joss Whedon himself (and with assistance from FOX, Universal Studios, and Mary Parent from MGM, who was instrumental to the making of the film Serenity), a new fan-made movie, continuing the story as depicted in the motion picture Serenity, was born.

Original Firefly-Serenity Cast
Browncoats: Redemption – wholly funded by fans, for fans – with all proceeds from the sale of the DVD’s going to worthy charities – takes place three months after the events on Miranda, the fictional planet featured in Serenity (the movie). Captain Laura Matthews (actress Heather Fagan) and the crew of the ship Redemption are unintentionally thrown into a situation that some view as the potential catalyst for the second unified rise of the Independents against the Alliance. The Alliance is looking for a scape goat for Miranda while those unhappy with the Alliance are looking for a rallying cry to take action.
The crew of the ship Redemption includes Lux Lucre (actor Kevin Troy), Cameron Alan (actor Guy Wellman), James Banks (actor John Patrick Barry), Jack Haddington (actor P. J. Megaw), Brett Gray (actor Michael Levy) and Petra Jo Chen (actress Miriam Pultro).
