Henry Cavill
There has been quite a bit of speculation in Hollywood about who should play the legendary Lois Lane in the reboot of the Superman franchise now that British actor Henry Cavill (The Tudors) [see photo to right] has been cast as Clark Kent. All anyone has to do is conduct a simple search of the internet to find numerous articles on the subject, listing the author’s suggestions on which actresses should be considered for the role or which names have been tossed around for the part.
I, too, have been wondering which Hollywood starlet will get plucked out of the horde of actresses clamoring to play this plum role and while the list that follows does reflect some names that have appeared on a few other lists, I think these ladies might be strong contenders. Please note they appear in no particular order:

Summer Glau
Summer Glau – Summer has a history with the sci-fi realm because of her roles in the short-lived Joss Whedon shows Firefly and Dollhouse as well as her turn as Cameron on the FOX drama Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Currently she can be seen in the NBC series The Cape, which seems destined for a short run (sorry fans the ratings just aren’t there and the show just had its episode run cut from 13 to 10 so don’t be surprised if an early cancellation isn’t announced soon), allowing Summer time to prepare for this role.

Evangeline Lilly
Evangeline Lilly – This Canadian beauty from the ground-breaking ABC series Lost could certainly handle the tougher aspects of Lois Lane and she has dabbled in box office success with her small role in the Oscar winning film The Hurt Locker. Both of these experiences would help her in stepping into these very large shoes with aplomb.

Rachel McAdams
Rachel McAdams – Touted as one of the front-runners for this role, Rachel’s name has, of course, appeared on a number of these lists. And, she clearly has a wealthy of box office experience from which to derive, including her role in the tear-jerker The Notebook, the whimsical Morning Glory and even the farcical Mean Girls.

Rebecca Hall
Rebecca Hall – While Rebecca is one of the lesser known of the actresses on this list, she certainly held her own alongside John Hamm and Ben Affleck in the box office film The Town. She could easily handle the dense mythology of the franchise thanks to her work in the films Frost/Nixon and The Prestige as well as handle the lead role as she did in Vicky Christina Barcelona.

Ginnifer Goodwin
Ginnifer Goodwin – Ginnifer has appeared in wide ranging TV shows, like Ed and Big Love as well as the box office films like How to Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Walk the Line, A Single Man and He’s Just Not That Into You. Her experiences in all these varying genres would prove essential in portraying a multi-faceted character like Lois Lane.

Rachel Boston
Rachel Boston – Best known for her role in the 1960’s-based series American Dreams, Rachel also appeared in the short-lived TV show The Ex-List and has appeared in the box office film (500) Days of Summer. Landing this role would certainly put her on the fast track to more attention and bigger opportunities in film and TV.
