Based on information provided by the Dark Horizons website and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in September:
Riddick
Opens: September 6
This film picks up after the events of The Chronicles of Riddick with Lord Vaako (Karl Urban) betraying Riddick (Vin Diesel), leaving him for dead on a desolate planet. Now Riddick has to fight for survival against not just the indigenous alien predators, but also bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy who are descending on the planet to take his head. As visions of a woman haunt him, he comes to realize that the only way to survive is to drop the more civilized traits he has picked up and return to his merciless hunter origins. The cast includes Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica and Longmire) and Nolan Gerard Funk (Glee and Warehouse 13).
And While We Were Here
Opens: September 13
Jane (Kate Bosworth) and her English husband travel to Naples hoping to reinvigorate their silently disintegrating marriage and escape a personal tragedy that hangs heavily between them. When Jane, facing writer’s block, takes a day trip to a beautiful island off the coast, she meets a young American man living a hermetic life on the island. As the two embark on an unlikely emotional affair, Jane faces some drastic changes in her life.
Battle of the Year
Opens: September 13
The movie follows Dante and Blake as they try to put together a B-boy team that will win the upcoming Battle of the Year dance competition under the belief that proper coaching can take any team to victory. The cast includes Josh Holloway (Lost), singer Chris Brown, Josh Peck (Red Dawn), Laz Alonso (Breakout Kings) and Caity Lotz (soon to be seen on Arrow).
Parkland
Opens: September 20
This drama recounts the chaotic events that occurred at the Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The cast includes Zac Efron, Jacki Weaver, Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, and Marcia Gay Harden.
Prisoners
Opens: September 20
This film revolves around a small-town carpenter named Keller (Hugh Jackman) whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, Keller takes the law into his own hands. In the process, he runs up against the big city detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) assigned to the case. The cast includes Paul Dano, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis and Melissa Leo.
Rush
Opens: September 20
The film follows the personal lives of drives James Hunt and Niki Lauda both on and off the track, charting the rivalry from its inception through to the 1976 fiery crash in which Lauda nearly died. He returned to the track just six weeks later to race Hunt. Chris Hemsworth stars as the privileged, charismatic and handsome English playboy Hunt while Daniel Bruhl plays the reserved and methodical Australian Lauda. The cast includes Olivia Wilde and Natalie Dormer.
Baggage Claim
Opens: September 27
Determined to get engaged before her youngest sister’s wedding, flight attendant Montana Moore (Paula Patton) finds herself with only 30 days to find Mr. Right. Using her airline connections to “accidentally” meet up with eligible ex-boyfriends and scour for potential candidates, she racks up more than 30,000 miles and countless comedic encounters, all the while searching for the perfect guy. The cast includes Adam Brody (The O.C.), Boris Kodjoe (Undercovers), Djimon Hounsou, Taye Diggs and Christina Milian, Derek Luke and Tia Mowry.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
Opens: September 27
After the disastrous food storm in the first film caused by his machine, Flint Lockwood (voiced by Bill Hader) and his friends are forced to leave the town of Swallow Falls. Flint accepts the invitation from his idol Chester V to join The Live Corp Company, which has been tasked to clean the island, and where the best inventors in the world create technologies for the betterment of mankind and planet Earth. Upon arriving back at Swallow Falls, Flint discovers that his machine still operates and now creates mutant food beasts like living pickles, hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, and apple pie-thons. It is up to Flint and his friends to put a stop to the machine once and for all before this new form of foody life breaks from the island and invades the planet. Other voices will be provided by Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Benjamin Bratt, Terry Crews, Will Forte and Kristen Schaal.
