TELEVISION
Syfy has picked up the US broadcast rights to the Canadian series Bitten, which was given a second season order by its home network Space last week. The second season will return to Syfy sometime in 2015. (TV By the Numbers)
TV MINI-SERIES NEWS
Actor Richard E. Grant (Doctor Who and Girls) has joined the cast of the upcoming six-hour event series Dig, which will air on the USA Network. The event series will center on Peter Connelly (Jason Isaacs), an FBI agent currently stationed in Jerusalem who, while investigating the murder of an American archeologist, uncovers a conspiracy 2,000 years in the making. Grant will play Ian Margrove, the Cambridge archeologist heading up the dig. Following a murder, Peter begins to suspect that Margrove may be more involved in the mystery surrounding the death than he’s letting on. The cast includes Lauren Ambrose, Regina Taylor and Anne Heche. (Philiana Ng at The Hollywood Reporter)
Singer-songwriter-actor Kris Kristofferson has joined the cast of the History Channel’s upcoming 8-part mini-series Texas Rising that will detail the Texas Revolution against Mexico and the rise of the legendary Texas Rangers. During the Texas Revolution, President Jackson (Kristofferson) avoided direct U.S. involvement, unwilling to risk open war against Mexico as he continued to monitor the political situation. But Jackson was a mentor to and admirer of General Sam Houston and he realized the fate of Texas would profoundly influence the future of the United States. (TV By the Numbers)
BOX OFFICE NEWS
Actor Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) has joined the cast of the upcoming box office film The Longest Ride, which is an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks book. Huston will play the young Ira in a tale that brings together two intertwining love stories. (Mike Fleming, Jr. at Deadline)
Actor Josh Brolin is expected to co-star alongside Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro in the upcoming box office film Prisoners that follows an officer from Tucson, Arizona who travels to Mexico with a pair of mercenaries to track down a drug lord. (Justin Kroll at Variety)
Actor Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man) is expected to play the father of Johnny Depp’s looney Mad Hatter in Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to the latest Alice in Wonderland adaptation. This sequel will not be out in theatres until May of 2016, though. (First Showing)
