Last night was Oscar night on ABC with the rest of the primetime line-up on the other major networks filled with news, repeats, reality and animation along with new episodes from four Sunday night dramas, one of which was a back-to-back airing of two episodes.

Here is how those four Sunday night dramas fared in the overall ratings last night:

8 PM Shows:
NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) [NEW – Episode 1] – 5.4 million viewers
Riverdale (The CW) [NEW] – 253,000 viewers

9 PM Show:

RENEWALS/CANCELLATION

The CW has given series renewals to the following dramas: All American, The Flash, Superman & Lois, Riverdale, Walker, Kung Fu and Nancy Drew. (TV Line)

HBO Max has given a second season renewal to And Just Like That. (TV Line)

BET has given season renewals to Tyler Perry’s Sistas’ and The Oval. (TV Line)

Netflix has pulled the plug on Archive 81 after only one season. (TV Line)

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIE NEWS

Hallmark has begun production of the first movie under its new Mahogany banner. The film, titled Unthinkably Good Things, will star Karen Pittman (Luke Cage and The Morning Show) and will air on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. The movie sees a woman named Allison (Pittman) at a crossroads in her career and love life, in need of the love and support of her two friends Melina (Joyful Drake) and Reesa (Erica Ash). When they visit her in Tuscany, the reunion causes each woman to reexamine the state of her own life and relationships. While they have different personalities and perspectives, they know each other’s truths and help to make life-changing decisions. Jermaine Love and Lance Gross also star. (Variety)

Actors Ian Bohen and Khylin Rhambo will be returning for the upcoming Teen Wolf revival movie. (Variety)

Holly Robinson Peete has signed a multi-picture deal that includes exclusivity on holiday movies with Crown Media Family Networks (aka Hallmark). (Deadline)

STAGE ADAPTATION

Award-winning movie CODA is going to be developed into a stage musical adaptation at Deaf West Theatre, which is based in Los Angeles. (Variety)

TV CASTING NEWS

Actress-singer Mae Whitman (Good Girls) will play the female lead in Up Here, the upcoming Hulu musical romantic comedy series that will follow the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, Lindsay and Miguel, as they fall in love and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears and fantasies that lives inside their heads. Whitman will play as Lindsay. (Deadline)

Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets and The Addams Family) will have a mystery role in the upcoming live-action Netflix small screen adaptation of The Addams Family entitled Wednesday. Jenna Ortega (Jane the Virgin and You) will play the title role. (Variety)

Betty Gilpin (GLOW) has landed the lead role in the upcoming Peacock drama Mrs. Davis that will be an exploration of faith vs. technology with Gilpin playing a nun who goes to battle against an all-powerful A.I. (Variety)

The Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters have cast John and Mary Winchester (the parents of Sam and Dean). Drake Rodger (The In Between) will play John and Meg Donnelly (American Housewife) will play Mary. (TV Line)

HBO is developing a 7-part series based on the critically acclaimed novel A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. The story will center on a rich widow, two tailors and a young student from vastly different parts of Indian society whose lives intersect in a tiny apartment — traverses the political landscape in India from the country’s independence in 1947 through to the 21-month state of emergency called by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi between 1975 and 1977. (Variety)

The Disney+ feature film Better Nate Than Ever will debut online on April 1.

This musical family-comedy, based on the novel of the same name, is about Nate Foster (Rueby Wood), an unpopular 13-year-old middle school student from Pittsburgh who has a goal of one day becoming a Broadway musical star. When Nate is repeatedly overlooked, and never cast in the lead roles he deserves, he and his best friend Libby (Aria Brooks), sneak away to pursue their life’s dreams in the Big Apple. A random encounter with his estranged aunt Heidi (Lisa Kudrow), turns their adventure upside-down. Only together can they make their dreams come true.

Norbert Leo Butz also stars.

On April 1, the Amazon drama Slow Horses will debut online.

The six-episode drama follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 – Slough House.

Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes.

The cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Jack Lowden and Olivia Cooke.

Here is the list of the programming options to expect on TV this coming week:

On March 29, the drama Promised Land will air its final episode on Hulu online.

The 3-episode limited series The Girl From Plainville will debut online on March 29 on Hulu. The limited series is inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter’s unprecedented “texting-suicide” case that explores Carter’s relationship with Conrad Roy III and the events that led to his death and, later, her conviction of involuntary manslaughter. The series stars Elle Fanning, Chloë Sevigny, Cara Buono, Kai Lennox and Norbert Leo Butz.

On March 30, the Disney+ series Moon Knight will debut online. The series follows Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt. The series also stars Ethan Hawke and the late Gaspard Ulliel.

The Peacock drama Bel-Air, the reboot of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, will air its finale online on March 31.

On April 2, the Lifetime movie Fallen Angels Murder Club: Friends to Die For will debut at 8 PM. Based on the books by R. Franklin James, Toni Braxton stars as Hollis Morgan, an ex-con turned amateur sleuth set out to investigate a series of murders at her book club. The ensemble cast includes Eddie Cibrian, Henderson Wade, Kaitlyn Leeb, Kelly Hu, Rainbow Sun Francks, Rob Stewart and Yanic Truesdale

The new movie Just One Kiss will debut on April 2 on the Hallmark Channel at 8 PM. Through a series of chance encounters, sparks fly between college literature professor Mia (Krysta Rodriguez) and Tony (Santino Fontana) a head-liner at a Manhattan supper club. Unbeknownst to them, Mia’s mother Marlene (Illeana Douglas) and Tony’s mother Sofia (Aida Turturro) are working some maternal matchmaking magic.

On April 3, The Walking Dead will air its spring finale on AMC+ online while, on that same night, the 64th Annual Grammy Awards will air on CBS at 8 PM.

The 2018 movie Run the Race makes its small screen debut on UPtv at 7 PM on April 3. Against the backdrop of high school football and track, two brothers in a small Southern town face escalating problems with two different world views, straining – but ultimately strengthening – the bonds of brotherhood. All-star athlete Zach Truett finds glory on the high school football field — working to earn a college scholarship and a ticket out of town. When a devastating knee injury forces Zach to the sidelines, his brother laces up his cleats to compete in track and field. The cast includes Kristoffer Polaha, Kelsey Reinhardt, Evan Hofer and Tanner Stine.

Lastly, also on April 3, the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Always Amore will debut at 9 PM. Elizabeth (Autumn Reeser), with the support of her mother-in-law Nonna (Patty McCormack), is doing everything she can to keep her late husband’s once-acclaimed – but now struggling – Italian restaurant afloat. With business going downhill, she is forced to work with a professional restaurant consultant, Ben (Tyler Hynes), to see if they can turn things around. At first, Elizabeth resists the changes Ben believes will save the restaurant, but as they get closer, Elizabeth realizes that not all change is bad. She rediscovers her passion for baking and might even open her heart to new love.
