RENEWAL/CANCELLATIONS
Apple TV has given Slow Horses an 8th season renewal before the start of its upcoming current 6th season. The show had already received a 7th season renewal last year. (Press Release by Apple TV)
Netflix has pulled the plug on Sweet Magnolias after five seasons. (The Hollywood Reporter)
The Amazon Prime Video drama Ride or Die has been cancelled after only one season but the show is shopped around. (Deadline)
BOX OFFICE NEWS
Oscar winner Brie Larson is set to star as Katy Silver and executive produce the feature film adaptation of the Rebecca Serle best-selling novel One Italian Summer that will be released in May 2028. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the movie will be a moving and magical story about the enduring bond between mothers and daughters. Following a devastating loss, a young woman is given an extraordinary opportunity to reconnect with her mother in a new light, leading to unexpected discoveries and a deeper understanding of love, life, and herself. Alan Ritchson (Reacher) is in talks to star in the film adaptation of the PlayStation video live-service game franchise Helldivers, stepping after Jason Momoa (Aquaman) exited the project. Set in the 22nd century, the game’s story follows a force of shock troops dispatched to combat various threats to humanity and to uphold fascist Super Earth’s managed democracy. That involves a lot of battles against alien robots called Automatons and giant bugs called Terminids, both seeking revenge following their defeat a century ago in the First Galactic War. TV CASTING NEWS
Marg Helgenberger (CSI) will have a recurring role in the upcoming second season of Boston Blue, playing Gwen Silver, the estranged biological mother of Sarah (Maggie Lawson). Gwen is a complex yet charming woman whose temperament is not unlike the climate of her Cape Cod home — unpredictable. Gwen returns to Boston with a very personal and emotional agenda just when Sarah least expects it. Though Gwen loves her daughter more than anything, her arrival adds a complicated layer to the Silver family dynamic. (TV Line)
Michael Malarkey (The Vampire Diaries) will have a recurring role in the upcoming fourth season of Tracker, playing Adam, a private investigator for high-end law firms who runs into Reenie (series regular Fiona Rene), an old friend he hasn’t seen in years, and their familiar banter brings questions about their history and possible future. (TV Line).
Yellowstone alum Jefferson White will reprise his role of Jimmy Hurdstrom in the second season of Marshals, but details on how his character will be worked into the spin-off series have not been released. (Variety)
UPCOMING TV SHOW NEWS
Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) will star in the upcoming limited series Smokeshow based on the upcoming novel by Catriona Stewart which will be overseen by David E. Kelley Productions. The show hasn’t been picked up by any specific network or streaming service yet. Part thriller, part dark romantic comedy, the series will center on a covert operative, Rory (Fahy), who becomes entangled with her target, the charming and devastatingly earnest Nolan. Rory must then choose between the life she’s known and the chance to break free. (Deadline)
Edie Falco will star in the upcoming FOX legal drama Katie Greaves that is set to debut during the 2027-2028 TV season. The series will center on the titular Greaves (Falco), a whip-smart, fiercely committed attorney who stepped away from the New Hampshire Public Defender’s office following a devastating personal tragedy. Now raising her two young granddaughters with her husband and trying to piece together a life she never expected, Katie is drawn back to the work that once defined her. Each case tests Katie’s instincts, wit, and deeply held belief that everyone deserves a second chance…and someone to fight for them. (Variety)
