Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in December:

The Shape of Water
Opens: December 1

Elisa is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab’s classified secret — a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist. The cast includes Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones and Octavia Spencer.

The Tribes of Palos Verdes
Opens: December 1

When the Mason family moves to idyllic Palos Verdes, Calif., the father, Phil, loves it but the mother, Sandy, feels out of place among the fake tans and tennis skirts. Phil and Sandy’s daughter, Medina, is a loner and outcast at school, while her charismatic brother, Jim, is effortlessly popular. When Medina and Jim take up surfing, they must prove their right to share the waves with the tough Bayboys gang that monopolizes their stretch of beach. The film stars Jennifer Garner, Maika Monroe and Justin Kirk.

Wonder Wheel
Opens: December 1

Four peoples’ lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s: Ginny, an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty, Ginny’s rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey, a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright; and Carolina, Humpty’s long-estranged daughter, who is now hiding out from gangsters at her father’s apartment. The cast includes James Belushi, Debi Mazar, Juno Temple, Justin Timberlake and Kate Winslet.

I, Tonya
Opens: December 8

Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie) rises through the ranks of competitive figure skating only to find disgrace when her husband tries to eliminate her rival. The cast also includes Allison Janney and Sebastian Stan.

Just Getting Started
Opens: December 8

Duke Diver is living the high life as the freewheeling manager of a luxurious resort in Palm Springs, Calif. He soon faces competition from Leo, a former military man who likes the same woman that Duke is interested in. When Diver’s past suddenly catches up with him, he must put aside his differences and reluctantly team up with Leo to stop whoever is trying to kill him. The film stars Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Rene Russo.

November Criminals
Opens: December 8

Addison, an intelligent but disengaged high school senior, navigates the Washington, D.C., underworld with his best friend and soul mate, a clever and levelheaded girl named Digger. Together, they attempt to solve the death of a fellow student. The film stars Ansel Elgort, Chloe Moretz and David Strathairn.

Ferdinand
Opens: December 15

A giant but gentle bull must find a way to break free from his captors and return home to his family. Voices are provided by John Cena, Kate McKinnon, David Tennant, Bobby Cannavale and Gina Rodriguez.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Opens: December 15

Rey (Daisy Ridley) develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order. The ensemble cast includes the late Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro and Peter Mayhew.

Jumangi: Welcome to the Jungle
Opens: December 20

Twenty years after the events of the first film, the infamous board game has evolved into a video game and while cleaning out a school’s basement serving detention, four teenagers find it and get sucked into the same jungle setting that Alan Parrish got sucked into all those years ago. They also become their avatars inside the game and the only way out is to play along and finish it. The cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Nick Jonas and Bobby Cannavale.

The Greatest Showman
Opens: December 20

Inspired by the imagination of P. T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman), the original musical celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. The film also stars Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.

All the Money in the World
Opens: December 22

After a young John Paul Getty III (Charlie Shotwell) is kidnapped by an organized crime regime, his devoted mother, Gail (Michelle Williams), desperately attempts to convince his wealthy grandfather, oil tycoon J. Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer) to pay the ransom. When he refuses, Gail allies herself with Getty’s business manager and former CIA operative Fletcher Chase (Mark Wahlberg) to set her son free and convince Getty to change his mind before it’s too late. The cast also includes Timothy Hutton.

Crooked House
Opens: December 22

The granddaughter of late business tycoon Aristide Leonides, Sophia de Haviland, visits private investigator Charles Hayward (Max Irons) in his office. A former flame of hers, Sophia hires Charles to investigate Aristide’s death, for she believes he was murdered by a member of his sprawling and idiosyncratic family. Charles is forced to visit his estate and interview each and every one of the Leonides clan—and not all welcome his arrival into their lives. The film stars Glenn Close, Terence Stamp, Julian Sands, Gillian Anderson and Christina Hendricks.

Downsizing
Opens: December 22

Downsizing imagines what might happen if, as a solution to over-population, Norwegian scientists discover how to shrink humans to 5 inches (13 cm) tall and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small, but with one catch: the procedure cannot be reversed. People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, and with the promise of a better life, everyman Paul Safranek (Matt Damon) and wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha in order to become small and move to a new downsized community, a choice that triggers life-changing adventures. The film also stars Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Sudeikis, Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon.

Hostiles
Opens: December 22

An Army captain agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to his tribal lands in the year 1892. The cast includes Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi, Q’orianka Kilcher, Adam Beach, Rory Cochrane, Ben Foster and Jesse Plemons.

Pitch Perfect 3
Opens: December 22

After the college graduation, The Barden Bellas are struggling with their own lives and jobs until former member Aubrey (Anna Camp) comes up with a plan to reunite the girls for one last chance to perform on tour in Europe. However, the girls must face the obstacle that their apparent competition comes with actual musical instruments. The cast includes Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Ruby Rose, Matt Lanter, John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks.

The Post
Opens: December 22

A cover-up that spanned four U.S. Presidents pushed the country’s first female newspaper publisher, Kay Graham (Meryl Streep) of The Washington Post, and its hard-driving editor, Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), to join an unprecedented battle between journalist and government in publishing the Pentagon Papers. The film stars Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood, Matthew Rhys, Carrie Coon, Alison Brie, Jesse Plemons and David Cross.
