Based on information provided by the Box Office Mojo and some internet research, here are just some of the movies you can expect to see in the movie theatres in October:
Blade Runner 2049
Opens: October 6
Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years. The cast includes Dave Bautista, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Lennie James and Edward James Olmos [among others].
The Mountain Between Us
Opens: October 6
Stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers (Idris Elba and Kate Winslet) must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across the wilderness. The film also stars Dermot Mulroney and Beau Bridges.
The Stray
Opens: October 6
Members of the Davis family are going through a hard time when a stray dog, Pluto, comes into their life and, in just a short time, saves a toddler, brings comfort to a 9-year-old boy, restores a marriage and repairs a broken father-son relationship. The cast includes Sarah Lancaster (Chuck) and Michael Cassidy (People of Earth).
Breathe
Opens: October 13
Robin Cavendish (Andrew Garfield), who after being given only three months to live after being paralyzed from the neck down by polio at age 28, becomes a pioneering advocate for the disabled. He and his devoted wife, Diana (Claire Foy), travel the world with the hopes of transforming the lives of others like him. The film also stars Tom Hollander and Hugh Bonneville.
Goodbye Christopher Robin
Opens: October 13
A.A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) finds inspiration for his Winnie-the-Pooh tales through his interactions with his young son Christopher Robin Milne. (newcomer Alex Lawther). The cast also features Margot Robbie and Kelly Macdonald.
Marshall
Opens: October 13
As the nation teeters on the brink of WWII, a nearly bankrupt NAACP sends Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) to conservative Connecticut to defend a black chauffeur against his wealthy socialite employer in a sexual assault and attempted murder trial that quickly became tabloid fodder. In need of a high profile victory but muzzled by a segregationist court, Marshall is partnered with Samuel Friedman (Josh Gad), a young Jewish lawyer who has never tried a case. The film also stars Dan Stevens, Sophia Bush, Kate Hudson, James Cromwell, Sterling K. Brown and Jussie Smollett.
Professor Marston & the Wonder Women
Opens: October 13
The unconventional life story of Dr. William Marston (Luke Evans), Harvard psychologist and inventor, and the relationship between his wife and his lover, who became her lover after his death, that inspired the iconic super heroine Wonder Woman. The cast includes Rebecca Hall, Bella Heathcote, JJ Field, Oliver Platt and Connie Britton.
Geostorm
Opens: October 20
In the near future, when climate-controlling satellites malfunction and release disaster-creating small pods all over the world, Jake Lawson (Gerard Butler) and his other fellow astronauts head into space to prevent the satellites from programming the small pods into creating a storm of epic proportions. They soon discover that the disasters weren’t caused by a malfunction, but were done with intention and the only person who has the kill codes to shut down the satellites is President Andrew Palma (Andy Garcia). The cast includes Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish and Ed Harris.
Only the Brave
Opens: October 20
A drama based on the elite crew of firefighters who battled the Yarnell Hill Fire, a wildfire in Prescott, Arizona in June 2013 that claimed the lives of 19 members of their team. The film stars Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, James Badge Dale, Taylor Kitsch, Jennifer Connelly, Andie MacDowell and Geoff Stults.
Same Kind of Different As Me
Opens: October 20
International art dealer Ron Hall (Greg Kinnear) befriends a homeless man (Djimon Hounsou) to save his struggling marriage to Deborah (Renée Zellweger), a woman whose dreams will lead all three of them on the most remarkable journey of their lives. The cast includes Jon Voight and Olivia Holt.
The Snowman
Opens: October 20
When an elite crime squad’s lead detective (Michael Fassbender) investigates the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter, he fears an elusive serial killer may be active again. With the help of a brilliant recruit (Rebecca Ferguson), the cop must connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one if he hopes to outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall. The film also stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, J.K. Simmons, Chloe Sevigny, James D’Arcy, Toby Jones and Val Kilmer.
Wonderstruck
Opens: October 20
The film takes place in both 1927 and 1977. In the earlier time period, Rose (Millicent Simmonds) runs away from her New Jersey home to find her idol Lillian Mayhew (Julianne Moore). In the later time frame, Ben (Oakes Fegley) also runs away to New York after his mother’s death in search of his missing father. The cast also includes Michelle Williams.
All I See Is You
Opens: October 27
The plot tells the story of a blind woman (Blake Lively) and her husband (Jason Clarke). When her sight unexpectedly returns, she begins to discover the previously unseen and disturbing details about themselves, their marriage and their lives. The film also stars Yvonne Strahovski, Danny Huston and Wes Chatham.
Thank You For Your Service
Opens: October 27
The film follows three American soldiers returning from Iraq as they reintegrate with their families, adjust to civilian life and work to handle their memories of war. The cast includes Miles Teller, Haley Bennett and Keisha Castle-Hughes.
